Re: Musicians on MSU Witch Elves?
I use my witches as torpedoes and never bother using a musician with them. I usually run 2 units of 10, 7 in the first rank 3 in the second. In my experience, or at least the way I use them, they either do their job and wipe out opposing light troops or they get a poor match up and get decimated. (M...

Re: Blackguard as a centerpiece?
Has anyone ever run BG in a cauldron list? It doesn't have to include the CoB inside the unit but just have it close enough to benefit from re-rolls. This would give BG re-rolls for both hitting and wounding which is incredibly powerful. I would really like to try it out sometime , but I have yet to...

Re: Shades vs. Waywatchers
I actually think that waywatchers are going to be very powerful, the ability to ignore armor completely is very good and not to be overlooked. I expect to see two units of 10 in many wood elf players lists. Yes they are more expensive but for versatility I think it is worth it. Shades cannot do anyt...

Any reason not to use 4 bolt throwers?
With both dark and high elves with their new books (and woodies on the way hopefully) I have seen many more elf armies. This means lots of T3 low armor (usually) which are ideal targets for the bolt thrower. Up until now I have not been using them but recent matches against elves leads me to think I...

Re: Sisters of Slaughter -- who is using them?
I too have used the sisters with a BWS, although in an unorthodox way. I used them as an anvil only 5 wide but with the BSB and a warbanner. This gave me a static combat res of 6 plus any kills I could get. In return they are very hard to kill (can only target 2 or the BWS) and so don't give up much...

Re: 2500 "Cut like a scalpel, not a cleaver"
Thanks for the comments, I too was wondering about the lack of a unit being able to grind, luckily I got a game against a saurus heavy infantry list, pretty comparable to how dwarves fight. My warlock unit got off just a single spell (soulblight) on 1 unit of saurus and was able to inflict 8 casualt...

Re: Medusae are useful!
Very interesting post, Since I love the model and now actually have one I think I might give it a try. Would you consider using two to insure that 1 makes it to combat? With only 3 T4 wounds it can be shot or magic missiled fairly easily, causing multiple panics in all likelihood. Yes you can screen...

Re: Tome of Furion -- How do YOU use it?
@ Thraundil Thanks for that explanation, that really helped me understand how it works and confirms my suspicion that taking the Tome does indeed help getting two specific spells. And don't worry about calculating the odds of two spells without the Tome, 90% success rate is plenty good for me with t...

Re: Tome of Furion -- How do YOU use it?
So I'm new to using the Tome at all, does it help your chances of getting TWO spells that you want? Say for instance, does taking the Tome help me get both Shroud and Word of Pain? Anyone with some math skills want to take a crack at it? Or am I just being ignorant and thinking it will help. Also wh...

Re: Getting ready for Buckeye... plenty of time - 2500
There was no chance for a stomp 12 Halberdier attacks with hatred kind of took care of her (they did 4 wounds total though, so without hatred she'd be still alive... and running <.<) Also ordered the Gamezone harpies today, those 5 are definitely staying in the list as the utility of a small flying...

Re: Dark elves MSU 2400 ETC
I wouldn't be worried about high T things, you have 4 Bolt throwers and a Twilight Cloak to take care of high value targets like monsters. If anything you will struggle vs 1+ save units like demigryphons/skullcrushers. The CoK can do a couple of wounds but will most likely die in return. You would h...

Re: Dark elves MSU 2400 ETC
One build for a master on foot that I really like is Sword of Might, Dawnstone, Enchanted Shield, heavy armor and SDC. This gives him a re-rollable 1+ save which is going to be better in close combat against everything except for S7 attacks than the build you have listed now. Still puts out the same...

2500 "Cut like a scalpel, not a cleaver"
So for me Dark Elves have always excelled at picking their own fights, creating favorable matchups and making difficult choices for your opponent. This list tries to highlight that with very mobile troops that can redeploy easily and pack a punch when going in for the kill. Any thought or criticisms...

Re: Dark Sorceress in Warlock units
My main question is why do you need 2 level 2 Dark Sorceresses if you already have 2 units of Warlocks? What spell(s) do you expect to get that would justify the points cost of the Sorceresses? Well we already know that warlocks are very good even without casting, this aims to improve their combat ...

Dark Sorceress in Warlock units
I've been throwing some ideas around in my head for a very fast attack army, featuring two units of warlocks with a Level 2 Dark Sorceress in each. Now I know that this makes this a priority target but the possibility of Power of Darkness and/or Soulblight in each unit makes each one a very hard hit...

Re: Dreadlord Setup/Tactics, anyone used this yet?
So I have played about five games with this guy now and I've got to say there is something really nice about having constant reliable S7 attacks that are pretty resilient too. My dreadlord has been the MVP almost every game so far, the ability to grind and not worry about return attacks from *most* ...

Re: Dreadlord Setup/Tactics, anyone used this yet?
So I have played two games with this guy so far and I am pretty happy with how strong he is in close combat once I get him there. I keep having bad luck with failing 7" or 8" charges and not getting into combat until turn 3 or 4. The first game I was not aggressive enough against some Iron...

Re: CoB or Bloodwrack in COK unit?
Another way to think of the CoK unit with a Cauldron is not as slow cavalry limited by movement but as a well protected infantry unit. Yes the lances help out a ton on the charge, however, with the cauldron bonus of re-rolling to wound, you still have significant presence in following rounds. Add in...

Dreadlord Setup/Tactics, anyone used this yet?
I plan on using this guy my next game in conjunction with a Level 4 caster and the Cloak of Twilight Master on a pegasus. Dreadlord mounted on Dark Pegasus with Giant Blade (+3Str), Dawnstone, Charmed Shield, and Potion of Foolhardiness. Heavy armor and a SDC round him off at a little under 300 poin...

Re: Bloodwrack Shrine useless?
I have played about 4 games now with the shrine in a unit of 12-15 sisters and found it very useful in almost every game. It does really well against anything that can't kill the shrine in a single round of combat or is stubborn or unbreakable. I've been running the unit with the Warbanner, and a BS...

Re: Scylocs deeper look into the use of the Bloodwrack Shrin
I've used the shrine 4 times now in a unit of 15 Sisters of Slaughter( FC, Warbanner and BSB in the unit). When the shrine can make it into combat its awesome, I finally got the charge off on a death star unit today- 30 Inner Circle Knights (GW's) with 4 characters, combo charged with a Cloak of Twi...

Dealing with +1 save troops
What is your go to for dealing with those pesky 1+ save troops? I'm talking tough elite units like Inner Circle Knights, Demi Gryphons, Steamtanks, Chaos Knights, Skullcrushers etc... I guess I know the usual suspects of course, Searing Doom, flee + redirect, Twilight Cloak maybe. But how does your ...

Re: The School of the Arcane
One thing that should be mentioned in regards to the Lore of Fire is using the Red Ruby Ring. Best used at the start of the magic phase to kick in the +D3 to cast from other spells. Good synergy on a lower level caster who can then cast a more powerful spell on the same target getting on average a t...

Re: Manticore viable?
Something I was just looking at earlier, definitely not a competitive choice but could be a lot of fun. High Beastmaster with Hydra Blade on a Manticore with both upgrades. You are looking at an average of 7 attacks from the Lord, with a little less than half chance of getting HKB, and an average of...

Re: Sisters of Slaughter tactics / best match-ups etc
I got to play a game yesterday using my proposed setup of 20 SoS, BWS and a level 1 heavens sorceress. I was pretty impressed with the results even though I could have played the unit better. The mission was a dawn attack so he got to setup after me (and he stole the initiative!). My unit went up ag...
