I'll be playing. My local campaign has Orcs, Empire, Bretonnians, Dwarves, Vampire Counts, Chaos, High Elves, and Wood Elves.

I've not yet selected a name for my General.

I agree about skipping the standard, but adding a musician would help the unit rally, and a champion might add a little bit of close combat punch - enough to fight off weak flyers or fast cavalry.

That 4+ weapon and shield save in close combat will make a surprising difference sometimes.

Those army comp rules do seem excessively restrictive. The only rule beside the regular army list limits that we have at my FLGS is no special characters.

I think it's pretty certain that a new Druchii list will include all of the magic items from the Albion campaign and the SoC book as standard. There's also the possibility that the Cult list may get folded in to a new Druchii list, much as the Craftworld lists were merged into the single new Eldar l...

Releases do change sometimes, especially when we're talking a year out. The current plan, according to no less than Gav himself, is no Druchii in 2007. I don't think variant "temporary" lists are very likely either, since GWs current philosophy appears to be to minimize the number of lists...

It's in limbo now, but when the new army book comes out (whenever that is) they'll be toast. Just like what happened to the Eldar variant armies when the new Eldar Codex came out.

Get used to it. There's no chance for a new DE book before 2008 unfortunately. The next 3 army books due are Empire, Vampire Counts, and High Elves.

If we're lucky, we might get a couple new models in the general release flood that will accompany next year's world wide Fantasy campaign.

I thought about adding to my DE army to make a Cult list alternative, but in the end, I decided it wasn't worth it.

I think it's pretty much certain that the list will disappear with the revision.

I agree with Sirist. The Cult might be a better combat army, but it depends on things - Slaanesh magic, Daemonettes, Chaos Warriors and Knights - that aren't Druchii and are drawn from another list. I'd say it's pratically guaranteed that the Cult list will disappear in the revision along with the o...

I agree that the 7th Edition changes have made Death much more worthy of consideration.

I'm thinking the way to go is to mix lores - one Sorceress with Dark and one with Death.

I'm a Dark Elf newbie myself, but a veteran WHFB player and I agree with the previous comments that the army really lacks a solid core.

If I was using the Black Guard i'd use them in a unit of 15 to 18. I definitely think they're worth it with the combination of Eternal Hatred and Stubborn.

I agree. Go with small, manueverable units of CoK and Dark Riders and go for the flanks. RBTs work well against anything big.

I don't know. It's a clever list, but I think you're counting on the terror a little too much. If you run into an army which is immune to psychology, Slaanesh, Khorne, Vampires or Tomb Kings for instance, you could be in deep trouble.

All cavalry army? That's an interesting idea - how does it work on the tabletop?

How big are your DR and CoK units?

The best place to buy buildings is an outfit called Miniature Building Authority. Their website is here:

They make a wide variety of buildings that come already assembled and painted, ready to play, and they are very nice.

@Kreoss

I don't know about that. One of the points of modelling a pike block is to create a monolithic appearance - a faceless phalanx of pikes, and I think that unit does it very well, in addition to having an awesome paint job.

Sometimes too much variety in a unit can be a bad thing.

Darthwald You might be right about losing manueverability with 25. That's why I said I needed to experiment. I disagree with you though about losing rank bonuses. We need that CR more than most because we're likely to cause less casualties and take more thanks to S 3 T 3. I learned a long time (and ...

I think you'll see significantly fewer lone wizards under 7th Edition.

I agree though that it seems like 2 units of DR are a must, and 3 might be even better, to work the flanks and go war machine hunting.

I think Dark magic is one of the stronger lists, although with the 7th Edition changes Death looks very attractive also.

Regardless, I think people who restrict themselves to just defensive magic are missing a bet.

But as someone else has pointed out, all of the Dark spells except the magic missiles don't require line of site, so the Pegasus could hide behind another unit (it's not monstrous) and the sorceress could still be effective, yes? Or am I missing something?
