I take Witch elves every game. I think they're awesome. They tear through light infantry better than most other things in the game and even though they may lack the flexibility of other special choices they are much more fun to use. I run a unit of ten or twelve and they generally perform quite well.

Spreading your magic between fire and shadow is a good idea. Dark magic will just be regenerated and the lore of metal is a waste of time against Daemons. I take chariots all the time. I particularly like using them in smaller games as they are quite cheap and can prove quite effective as a shock unit (especially when they cause 7 strength 5 impact hits). If I'm feeling saucy I will even mount a master on one for Unit strength 5.

Mainly warriors as they're the cheapest. I would consider crossbowmen though. I only ever give the dagger to a L2 sorceress, I once gave it a level 4 and I couldn't resist killing 4-5 of my own men each magic phase. She was powerful but the unit just fell apart, d'oh! It was quite funny though.

I think Death piercer is a great choice. It means you'll have a few more attempts at KB. You could always not go for a magical weapon at all and just give him a regular lance, he'll still be nasty on the charge and then you can spend the points elsewhere.
