This is very true, and a very fair point; though wouldn't the DEs invade with every available soldier, not just the ones most effective against HEs? And OTOH - the High Elves defending their shores wouldn't know if they're going to get invaded by DEs, Norse, Daemons, or Grom's floating Goblin armad...

@Bitterman and Caemdare As I indicated, I'm opposed to the entire concept of picking the scenario at random, as I considder this particular element of the game to have too much of an impact on different armies and races chance of winning a game. Yes, it's now an official part of the game, and in a t...

To be honest, in a friendly environment I'd never agree to just roll up some random scenario which has the potential to more or less eliminate one side's chance to win, simply because they play a particular race, and didn't put their army together in just the right way. I considder this to be idioti...

Looking at the picture I'd say that the effect was achieved with a black basecoat, gradually building up a lighter grey tone, then applying a more or less liberal wash of some black ink, and then finished off with a bit of Skull White highlight painted on. Alternatively a Mithral Silver final highli...

Red... You probably didn't miss anything. I just couldn't remember the Witches stats last night, and I didn't have my book available. It doesn't change the example though (except for another 1-2 dead Witches...). As for charging, I do in some situations find it illogical that only one side moves, bu...

The sheer weight of numbers with skaven doesn't change the fact that they aren't that powerfull in combat. If we take your example of a horde of clanrats with spears... ... While the combat will no longer go your way if you previously relied on killing the entire front rank to prevent. That change ...

That was true of lots of things in 7th ed: rolling to hit, rolling to wound, rolling to cast magic, rollling for armour saves, rolling for stupidity, rolling to dispel spells, rolling for leadership tests, etc etc. So they've added rolling for charges in 8th? So what. If you want to play a strategy...

The only real difference is that one point, and where the fight takes place. Which can make the difference between winning or loosing the game. I've had many games where my ultimate loss of the game can be traced back to a single failed charge or failed stupidity roll. For the same reason I simply ...

Well. From what I can read here, and what I've been able to determine from the July issue of White Dwarf (Europe version), 8th ed. signifies the end of Warhammer for me. Though some of the things sound like a good thing, the overall move of the game sounds like it's heading towards more luck, less s...

Red... Unfortunately I have to agree with you on the special character issue. The idiotic thing is though, that there is absolutely no good reason why you in many cases can't use the special character model as a reguler hero of some sort. Of course there are exceptions, but why shouldn't Malekith on...

Haven't posted in a while now (and to be honest, I haven't played a game in ages either...), but personally I'd start off by relegating the Special Characters back to opponent's consent only status. Additionally I can see good reasons for only allowing ONE hero (incl. Champions) in a single unit. A ...

Quick reply. In general we agree that if the Devoted ultimately turn out to be unbalanced during play testing, then we need to change them. I'm not quite ready to agree with you on the % marks you put forth, because the reliability of the poll result depends on the qty. of test games played. I.e. if...

Weenth. My life's still a little busy, so my time for this project is limited. But a quick answer: The poll: By all means the 2nd option!!! The first one makes my head hurt just thinking about! We've earlier discussed the importance of game size with regards to the balance discussion. We still need ...

OK. I’m back from vacation now, but now I’m just busy as hell… Anyway, I guess that I have to reply at some point, so here’s making time for it… I. Assuming that we can agree on the above, then I'll kick off the next unit: Dark Riders. Personally I don't think that there is any need to change these guys from the Dark Elf armybook, beyond adding the option for a MoS (+10 pts.?). Hope we can agree on that. As for the Shades, I forsee that we will...

Compulsive elven infantry unit with MoS to summon Daemons: OK I'd skip the poll on the Devoted for now, since it's not relevant until playtesting, and theoretically we could end up affecting people's opinions on the Devoted, by telling them about this issue. Also, depending on the comments the playt...

Weenth, I don't have time for an overly long answer tonight, but a couple of comments. The reason I'm not so hooked on your suggestion that people need to bring Devoted/marked Elven unit in order to bring any Daemons, is because of two reasons. 1) I see not need to add this additional rule that can ...
