Re: 9th Age - ETC & Swedish collaboration rule set

It's too early to get concerned by the minutia; it's still very much a work in progress and I'm just happy someone is doing it in the first place. The great thing with this project is that they're actually listening to people's input. I'd urge anyone to register on that site and share what you think...

Re: do shades suffer a -1 penalty to hit when moving

Quick to fire will be listed on the weapon description usually. Skink javelins have it; if they use blowpipes, they should be taking the -1 penalty.

Re: Hellcannon and Ironcurse Icon

I don't know if precedence has anything to do with proper rules interpretation, but the Ogre chariot cannon, Scraplauncher, and mammoth creature that throws a ball of ice "like a stone thrower" -none of which are actually war machines- all are FAQ'd to specifically allow the ironcurse save...

Yes, a functional rule set is otiose when you have the small, jewel-like objects of magic and wonder that we call Citadel miniatures.

Re: Depredations of the Hydra

Yeah, as much as their shooting has been bemoaned in the new book, it's the treemen that give me fits, even with my ogres. I can kill the elves once I catch them, but the treemen are sturdy, blow up chaff and cavalry with their roots, and smash monsters with the branch club attack. They definitely t...

Re: GW Annual Report

Their trick worked on me for Dreadfleet. "Wow, limited release! Gotta get it now, or I'll be paying through the nose on Ebay down the road!" Got the whole thing painted up nice before we ever had a game, too. And then we tried to play it... "Okay, your giant supreme capital ship has t...

Re: Thinking about Ogre Kingdoms

Off to a great start there. Here's my 2 cents, for what it's worth. +1 on the heavy armor for mournfang, even at the expense of the Dragonhide. They draw a lot of missile fire, and all it takes is one of them going down to force a panic test. I take the gleaming pennant on mine, as they operate outs...

Re: Thoughts on Swedish Comp

Comp isn't really that different than playing a homemade scenario, IMHO. You get kind of a different experience out of it, maybe see some less popular units on the table. It doesn't fix anything, but it's not destroying the fundamentals of Warhammer either. I have fun either way. If you're lucky eno...

Re: Better than Swedish???

Just had time to skim over; really like the way it's shaping up. I agree that the Swedish system definitely has some major inconsistencies in terms of penalizing certain armies over others. Thanks for all the thought and work that's going into this! A few minor things that stood out- keep in mind th...

Sorry about all the down time folks, and thanks for the kind words (made my day, flatworldsedge)! Got a chance to break Salmaat out of the corral for a quick game against an old rival, who fielded a pretty strange WoC list... Re: Do we really need a LvL 4?

I've actually been enjoying the game more without a lvl 4. Warlocks and a lvl 2 (sometime two) usually give me plenty of opportunity to use up my power dice, and I like having more expendable characters that don't require such an investment to protect. Maybe it's my MSU setup, but other than the Cho...

Re: K beast and Turtle Hydra

A super idea, and one I've been mulling over since you posted this. Just my 2 cents, but I'm wondering if the carnifex body wouldn't go better for the karibdyss. The dorsal vents on the tyranid shells definitely have an aquatic vibe to them. The thick kharibdyss neck portion would mesh up pretty wel...

Congrats on making it to the end of the road on your doctorate. Big round of applause, especially since you're still finding time for the hobby. Best of luck in that, and this tournament! I've got to throw my vote for option A, simply for the fact that it looks way more fun to play, and is highly un...

Re: Bolt Thrower options in shooting and deployment

^Very true. Riders and warlocks are usually enough to give cover for my DE monsters, but infantry won't. A laser pointer helps sort things out. TLOS makes a lot more sense for 40K than it does in Fantasy; I was sad to see it make its way here. That said, in 7th ed. with the previous Lizardmen book, ...

Attack, Lauren, attack! Corpses shall pave our path, not stand in our way! Teach the dead to fear us! Magnificent performance, there. And please do share some pictures. For a lot of wives/moms out there, flogging an unruly war hydra into battle and making a household function would hold much similar...

I've used Dark in twelve games so far, and haven't found reason to drop it. Most valid points have already been made, but I thought I might as well throw in my experiences so far. The context here is: Lower point games, monster/chariot heavy MSU list, sorceress on foot with level varying between 2 a...

Thraundil wrote: Remember that large targets never get cover.

Large Targets still get cover from everything except "obstacles" (fence, wall, etc.). Page 72 BRB.

I screen my monsters with smaller units every chance I get; it's really not much of a detriment to be large in 8th edition.

Re: 2,400 Swedish Comp

Juggernauts don't "resolve their attacks" at +1 S on the charge, the model is actually at +1 S. They're normally 5, so stomps hit at S6, as Vietnow said. I don't think they did the math at exactly how powerful -1 to hit is when it doesn't require a spell going off first. If you think facin...
