Re: Large Target Behind Hill
Why would a hydra be able to gain cover from a hill but not a stone wall that covers. 75% of its body? Because the rules on pages 72 and 122 say so. Also, I doubt you'll find any walls tall enough to cover 75% of a hydra's body, and if you did I would probably put them in the "Building" c...

Re: Large Target Behind Hill
Yeah. Nothing can give a large target cover save unless the entire model is completely hidden, under a true line of sight perspective. Even if theres a damned hole in the building its hiding behind, it can technically be shot at without modifiers. At least this is a common interpretation, as the co...

Re: Is lore of darkness any good? I would contend not...
Well. Cost for cost, executioners do in fact not beat demigryphon knights (I did the math once, it was kind of surprisingly awful). They tie, eventually grinding each other to zero, but the demis will win the first combat rounds. This is without magic support. Give them timewarp, and your execution...

Re: AVATARS OF WAR COMPETITION CHAT THREAD
Put my guy up. Not going to win, but it was fan and a good excuse to start painting Dark Elves again. I see no reason to assume you can't - your model looks great, and the freehand work on the banner is outstanding. Thanks. But Cultofkhaine and Faeli-n have some awesome models up and Lion of Lander...

I highly recommend getting a superglue accelerant spray. No more holding while the stuff sets.

A good tip I have for freehand work is to use pans, not brushes. I didn't do it here, but I used to have a set of pens with really small tips that were awesome for runes and other freehand work. The brand was Sakura Micron.

Re: AVATARS OF WAR COMPETITION CHAT THREAD
Just a small, kinda dark WiP shot. Still need to do the skin, the base, some trim, and the banner ... but you can get an idea of where it's going. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3858/14716794784_143f983ff7_n.jpg I am really unsure of how to do the banner. My guys are from Ghrond, so I want to do the...

Re: Murphy Reporting From Buckeye
Beautiful rush of a skaven list! I really do wonder what gets him so low in comp score... Maybe the double 80 hordes? It just seems as if he doesnt get the full bang for his buck, but then I am not super experienced vs skaven. Grats on the win =] The really big units as well as the double WLCs are ...

Re: Darkshards with Shields
@Dyvim - Instead of regular shields, you could try converting the front rank to have pavises. This gets me thinking. Maybe the way to do it is to make a movement tray with pavises built into the leading edge of the movement tray. That way, you can just paint the models up without shields, then use ...

Re: Darkshards with Shields
I have plenty of the old shields, but would prefer not to use them (they are too thick), and the arms on the backs of the new shields are not easily removed.
I just realized I have cold one knight shields that could do the trick.

Darkshards with Shields
I had a $35 gift certificate to a local gaming store and with the expiration date coming up, I picked up one of the new warrior boxes with the intent of making them into Darkshards to replace some older models that aren't up to my current standards. I frequently give my Darkshards shields to make th...

Re: Shades in the meta
With all the vanguard and scouts out there in the current game and with a fast cav army (Warllocks and dark riders), I believe a small unit of shades becomes necessary to fence off and limit the space for the opposing player to place scouts and vanguard units in the deployment phase. A friend of mi...

Great report. Based on Ryan's account, you caught him totally off guard with Fury of Khaine on the Knights. It's kind of funny because he very often catches people off guard with the Warrior Priest spells to make his Halberdiers really nasty.
