Rare Talisman Plastic Dark Elf Sorceress on eBay

Post by Heldrak »

Since a great many of our members seem to be eBay-challenged for one reason or another, I have decided to give the membership first crack at this lovely item for private sale before I slap it up on eBay.

I have the rare plastic Dark Elf Sorceress model (based on the cover art for the 4th/5th edition Dark Elf army book, but originally made for use with the Dragon's Tower expansion for the popular Talisman boardgame. Later released in the UK as a giveaway with White Dwarf magazine and finally re-released as part of GW's short-lived "Toybox" line.). Now well and truly out-of-production and much sought-after by discerning collectors of rare Dark Elf figures.

Picture here:

Concept art here:

This item typically commands very high prices on eBay (when you can find it there!). The price: $50.00 USD shipped anywhere in the world (the cost of shipping is included in the price). Will also consider trade of current edition NIB Witch Elves or Corsairs of equivalent retail value.

I'll make this little lady available for one week, then if she hasn't sold she's going up on the eBay auction block.

Hey I got that model. I didn't know it was a rarity. I was under the impression is was part of the standard line of sorceresses. I love the model, sad to find out it is a rarity as I would love to be able to own 3 or 4 of them. I actually think i got it at a GW giveaway when 6th edition came out.

Sorry but the model is butt ugly, I wouldn't give a broken penny for it, rarity or not. It's a rarity cause they don't make it anymore... cause it's ugly. You think our current cold one sorceress will fetch anything on Ebay in a few years? nah.

Didn't know it was once a Talisman miniature... it was in the old plastic wizards pack, Irtehdar mentioned, and I think it also came with an older issue of White Dwarf.

Got two of those of the more common 'grey' kind.

I like the model, it's not 'butt ugly'. While she's not supercute or beautiful, but she has a certain charm. :)

you have to see it from different angle :P 5th edition plastics were well made in comparison.

There are no variant color versions of this model. The model for sale is the same gray plastic figure (it may look paler in the photo on the Wikipedia site because of the lighting).

That is the "Toybox" line that I mentioned in my original post. GW briefly re-released some Talisman, Warhammer Quest, and 4th edition single-pose plastic models in the Toybox line a few years ago in an effort to introduce Citadel models into non-traditional retail channels (like Bookstores). The attempt failed and the line was cancelled (although apparently some retailers still have them moldering on dusty shelves). All of the various Talisman Wizards from the Toybox pack command good prices on eBay, but the Dark Elf Sorceress usually sells the highest.

That makes sense. Photographs online do sometimes cheat on colours.

I have about 12 of the models from the 2 toyboxes still unpainted. But anyway as of monday morning none of the nearby bookstores are gonna have any toyboxes left :P

If you can get 'em cheap, more power to you... :D

The Adventurers and Wizards boxes are the only really meaningful ones in terms of resale value, as those contain the Talisman & Warhammer Quest figures that are of interest to collectors. Most of the other boxes contain 4th edition Warhammer single-pose plastics and those are of little or no value (except maybe as unit fillers, or to those with a sense of nostalgia...).

The Elf box (which combined both High Elf Spearmen & Archers and also Wood Elves) may be of some interest as some collectors prefer the single-pose plastics to the current range of multi-part plastic High Elf Archers & Spearmen (myself among them). The 4th edition single-pose High Elf sprue also includes an embossed High Elf shield with one of several random designs, and those are sought-after (particularly the Sea Serpent design by those building units of Lothern Sea Guard).

Just wanted to add that I hate you, and have wanted this for a long time. Unfortunately this particular model was forged and resold, which actually lowered the value of the actual model, and people were often given the replica.

It's actually a pretty neat mini if you paint it decently, the plastic model is a bit misleading, I really like the one I had and painted up. Mine was grey plastic tho.

I've got this model its primed black and ready for paint. I'll trade it to whoever wants it for 6th or 5th edition harpies. They are fairly rare but I have no need of it at this time.

So I'm curious... did anyone ever pop for this figure at $50? If not, what did it sell for on ebay?

At 50 $ bucks never, too much. I got mine for 15 euros (>20 $), more or less, I cannot remeber.

About this mini, I love it, she is soo cool. Old plastic are really outdated now, but this is the best dark elf sorcereress GW ever produced! Maybe next one will be better but you cannot really say that our current sorcereress are better than her. :x
She may be a little gross, but the pose, the attitude is mean, IMO.

Where are you getting your information? It is far more difficult to recast a plastic model than a metal one, as the correct mix of injection-mold plastic is harder to come by (I don't know why anyone would bother, frankly). If you are talking about the GW "Toybox" line, those are not forgeries, they are legitimate figures from the original Citadel moulds.

The figure has sold at or over $50.00 USD on eBay on several instances in the past, which is why I set it at that price (although the termerity of this has apparently caused some wailing and gnashing of teeth...). Since this thread has degenerated into a "let's bash this figure" fest. I have decided to return it to my own collection for a while since I'm quite fond of it myself (I certainly prefer it to what I can see of the forthcoming metal "Soceress-standing-on-a-giant-coiled-turd", although I reserve judgement until I see it in the flesh...).

eBay buyers are silly if you ask me, to pay that much for that fig. I use mine often (I had two packs of the wizards box) and I even gave away my second copy of the fig. Its not a horrible fig, but it is a poor plastic cast.
