Tooling up the Dreadlord on foot

Post by Daeron »

Our new Dreadlord on foot comes in three configurations:
  • Chillblade
  • Pair of Exile Blades
  • Exile Blade + Tyrant Shield

So I thought it'd be interesting to check the performance of these configurations.

Chillblade
(save roll before the rend effect is taken into account)

The save of the Dreadlord increases notably, however. From a 4+ save to a 4+ save with a re-roll.

Vs Rend -2, requires 6+ with re-roll, 30.5% save chance.
Vs Rend -1, requires 5+ with re-roll, 55.6% save chance.
Vs Rend 0, requires 4+ with re-roll, 75% save chance.

Preliminary conclusions
By the look of it, the Dreadlord with Exile Blade and Tyrant Shield looks like the best all-rounder with a notably increase in survival skills. While I wouldn't exactly call it a tanky character, the reroll does make it a durable character by the looks of it.
The second Exile Blade trades a lot of durability for a small upgrade in combat. The impact seems small though, so a lot depends if you plan on having him hit in the first place.
The Chillblade does increase the damage potential, but it comes with a higher risk of scoring 0 wounds. This risk of fluffing increases notably as the target's save increases in spite of the rend attribute.

My personal preference will be the Exile Blade and shield. The bonus survivability seems to offer a chance to hold up an enemy unit.

Do you mean the details? I stuck to the summary to avoid a lemgthy post but it's little effort to turn it around :)

Any interest in doing the details on the various kit outs for the Glade Lord on foot while you're in a number crunching mode Daeron?
