First of the AoS existing races launch
So although not strictly true, as Lizardmen and Chaos have had some releases, I think it is safe to say this is the first of the releases that will get the attention of ex WFB players.
This is the link to the first few photos of the new Dwarf models and potentially a hint at the treatment other races may receive as AoS proceeds.

Very cool models!
I will likely remain buying models from GW as soon as DE comes out

Re: First of the AoS existing races launch
There is no doubt about it for me: GW still produces some ace models. AoS seems to have sparked a new level in their quality and design. Although the high fantasy vibe is clearly present in these pictures, I still think they'd fit on a classic WFB table.

I like them. And I never thought I'd say that about dwarf slayers.

Re: First of the AoS existing races launch
Well I must admit that these look pretty good (and even better because they don't have power armour - If I wanted to see that stuff, I'd play 40K). I fear for a lot of the races going forward though, so I'm going to reserve my overall judgement on the new releases until I get to see more of them...

Re: First of the AoS existing races launch
I don't see how this instills fear for a lot of the races. Personally, I think what we've seen so far is that they'll expand on the races, but in a more stylish way. The Stormcast have 4 troop kits, each with a couple of possible configurations. The Khorne warriors got 2 new kits, on top of the skullcrushers and the option to style some neutral units. This sub race release seems to continue the trend.
Although we're all divided over the 4 great factions, within each faction we get more stylised and specialised subraces. The Sylvanneth are marked as their own race now, though I reckon 1 or 2 new kits wouldn't hurt that model range. In spite of that, it looks great already as is and is presented like its own thing.
If this trend continues for the Dark Elves, and I hope it does, I wouldn't be surprised to see them release boxes focused on different cults. Perhaps one could be a raider theme, one a cult of slaneesh, one a cult of khaine and so on. I wouldn't be surprised if they shake up the different sub groups a bit though.
Either way, I think it looks terrific

Re: First of the AoS existing races launch
hmm - I'm undecided about the look. Also the price is just killing me, $50 AUD for a Runemaster is a bit steep for my wallet.

I don't see this release of new models helping their cause at all.

Re: First of the AoS existing races launch
Aside from the characters I think the price is ok-ish for these new Dwarfs. I'm not a Dwarf player and don't feel as tempted by them, but I'm certainly impressed with their quality.
It certainly makes me curious about Dark Elves!

Re: First of the AoS existing races launch
The models look great but overpriced, but without a serious rules set to support them, great models are nothing more than that. We'll see how things progress, of course.

Try to keep it positive on the rules. This is the Age of Sigmar forum, where players of the game like to discuss a game they like.

Looking really good indeed.
I've seen some complaints about the repetitive body attitude, though, but I could not figure out by myself.

What are the two lizard things in the background of the first pic? Quite a departure from their traditional fluff.

Re: First of the AoS existing races launch
From the bits and pieces that I gathered, it would be a type of fire lizard of which Grimnir had "won" against the mother of all lizards and subduing the creatures.
And yes, there's a clear departure from their traditional stuff. Whether that's good or bad is.. well.. personal taste. Originally I wasn't sold on the new style, but it's kind of growing on me. I fear it lacks a working, simple, relatable economy or geopolitics for now but perhaps they'll be included in the future.
Also, this:

I had never expected an article could shake my faith and fondness of the LOTR setting. So I was surprised to see this article could.

Thamks, interesting read. Not that I agree with most of he says, especially about Tolkien's dwarves, but Tolkien's work was labeled as out of date and to 'archaic' since its publication.Daeron wrote:Also, this:

Re: First of the AoS existing races launch
I guess the Slayers themselves are okay, although the old metal sculpts really can't be bested in my opinion. But those lizards... It's what you get when you butcher thirty years of fluff in order to be able to cram huge(ly expensive) toy kits into an army that has traditionally always been diametrically opposite to it and proud of it. Nothing Dwarfish about it.

Re: First of the AoS existing races launch
I think they look absolutely terrific. I'd love to see them on the table. I wonder if my local Dwarf fan will buy them. He certainly seems to like them, but he's a bit daunted by the price tag on the big monster
I would be too.

Re: First of the AoS existing races launch
I would really like to see a comparison in size, I guess there might be some pictures this week now the first models have gone on sale.
Mainly to understand any scale creep, if any and potentially what that would mean to the Aelf faction(s) and our existing range.
As for the Dwarfs themselves, I would have liked a few more poses perhaps but overall they are not badly done at all. I am trying to however forget the name 'Ur-gold'. That really doesn't do it for me.
Price tag I think is a separate discussion point for the forum. Seems to increase with every release unfortunately.
