Bases question

SO I am looking at converting my square bases to rounds, but I can seem to find what to convert my Drakespawn Knights to too. It says on the site they are 25mmx50mm, but doesn't say if they are oval bases and the photos show rectangle bases.

I believe all the AoS cavalry models use the oval bases, certainly I think it looks better than circular ones.

You could probably fit them on 60x35 bases, but I find that a tad too small for the 'heavy cavalry' look of the Drakespawn knights, so I went with 75x42, which is perhaps a little too big, but I've had no complaints.

When I asked a Blackshirt about weather I needed to replace my old square bases with the standard round ones he said it wasn' tnessisary, but round is typicly the easiest one now available.

Only reason to switch is if you plan to go play in tournaments. This is the only 'must'

Other valid factors:
if you have absolutely no interest in 9th age or playing previous versions of warhammer.
If
you font ever plan on owning 40k stuff, because honestly most of 40k infantry, bike, walker things are valid proxies for alot of AoS warscrolls. They are so close that alot of tournies would allow it.

And of course the look. They do look nice on rounds. You got a bit more room for scenery stuff too.

So much for the guy in GW Dublin who told me "Oh no, you don't need to rebase your old armies!".....; WHAT DAMN LIARS!!

How is that a lie, though? If certain tournaments are requiring round bases, that's entirely a decision made by those tournament organisers. It's nothing to do with GW and certainly nothing a staffer in GW Dublin has any control over.

My bad; I guess I forgot about the Indy tourament scene; still, it was pretty dumb of them to make that kind of declaration when they can't control outside events..... :(

I can't really agree with you there, either. If you ask a GW staffer, "Do I need to rebase my minis to play AoS?", I think it is perfectly reasonable for him to interpret that as, "Do I need to rebase my minis to play AoS in a GW store?"

Alright, fair point, I suppose; I just wish people weren't so fussy about square bases VS round..... :( :( :(

Now there I do agree with you. I've no intention of ever rebasing any of my old DE or Chaos models onto rounds. If someone refuses to play against me, then that's their problem. My Wanderers (WE) are on rounds because I only started them recently and they are intended to be used exclusively for AoS. But I only play casual games, never in tournaments, so there's no reason for me to rebase my older stuff.

I don't plan on rebasing my dark elves either. In fact, I'm still building new models on squares ;)
If that's a problem for an AoS game, then I won't play DE in that AoS game.

No reason for Tomb Kings players to re-base either; assuming they can still find poeple to play T9A, or 6th, 7th, or 8th Ed. with; especially so since they're not even part of the Age of Crapmar.....

Definitely an old thread, but I found this spreadsheet on TGA to be useful;
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... 1917256016

60x35 if you don't want to open the page. All man/human sized cavalry fits nicely on it.
