I took the liberty to correct the spelling error (indipendence - commemorate is quite right). :)

Wow... I never knew Russia controlled Finland. Gotta love that American public education... grumblemumblegripe...

Hmm... I suppose I should light a candle. Or something.

Our land, our land, our native land,
Oh, let her name ring clear!
No peaks against the heavens that stand,
No gentle dales or foaming strand
Are loved as we our home revere,
The earth our sires held dear.

The flowers in their buds that grope
Shall burst their sheaths with spring;
So from our love to bloom shall ope
Thy gleam, thy glow, thy joy hope,
And higher yet some day shall ring
The patriot song we sing!

I've always liked the Finnish national anthem. Much better than our old xenophobic ditty...

Congratulations about your Victories against Russia. And congratulations on independence day.

'Tis unfortunate what they teach about the age of total war in the United States-works out to be about 2 weeks of "pre-war" talks, about 3 days about the war, and then the rest of the year (about 2 weeks) is in "cold war wrap-up" and "finals time"

:(

Really wish they would teach it better here.

And, yes-I am trying to be serious here. I am very respectful of your independence. (It's early, and I'm tired).

Happy Finnish Independance Day! :D
Well, time WOULD be nice...
And, Storm of Chaos is here. Are you ready?

Good for you. I was never taught about that in Canada. I think our history books are even worse. However because I read a lot about the war later, I knew about this. Just the way it is I guess, the school can only do so much, especially when all the students would rather hear about some stupid celebrity and they have so much to teach.

Later the Fins were one of the unfortunate ones to be caught in between Nazi expansion and Soviet expansion. Didn't they have a hard time deciding who was the worst enemy?

Anyhow your Finland is not going to be free for long now that my druchii army has heard about it! I hear them assembling as I speak! :D

Happy err Finish Independence Day! I'm glad that you guys are better off by not being part of Russia. They're one crazy nation right now, I wouldn't want to be living there. Britain would be nice though. I should live in England for a year I think. Anywho, woohoo Fins!

Oi maamme Suomi ja niin päin pois.

Uhh, I'm not a Fin. I'm an American or as everybody over here prefers to call themselves I'm a [insert nationality/s here] American (i.e. African-American, Italian-American, Irish-American, German-American, etc).

Nightshade wrote:This post was posted yesterday?!? Quite much feedback considering only one day has passed. People from other lands seem to take our independence day more seriously than I... :?

Well - as somebody already said: "SUOMI FINLAND PERKELE!"

I'm interested in History in general. Thus, I pay attention to things like this. I didn't know it was the day of Finnish Independence-but I did find it interesting.
