Zensor! Zensor are THE Industrial metal band, ever.

I like all kinds of metal, rock, punk and elektronika. I am a huge fan of synth(as a instrument, not the genre synthpop) used in metal and other. noice or wtf it's called(støy på norsk) is interesting, but tireing to listen too in the long run. other than what it's mentioned I like almost everything, except danceband(not dance, danceband; imagine honky tonk country with lousy muscisians playing polka, waltz and other), honky tonk country, gangsta rap and I have yet to understand trance other than the dancing aspect.

I repeat: every Norwegian out there(or any other guy/girl encountering them on a tour) go their concerts, buy their records, they are one of the most unknown geniuoses in music history. just listen to them, especially the vocals of Sakari(I love finish/half finish vocalists)

Mainly, I'm a power metal kind of person but I also like anything else with a nice tune or particularly talented singers. Heck, I would even like pop if it had any truly talented singers at all...

More specifically, I like:

System of a Down
Dragonforce
Kamelot
Nightwish
Within Temptation
Stratovarius
Seraphim Shock
Evanescence

The latter I am losing interest in - come on! I need a new album! :P

Meh, DMDS is good, but I like Live in Leipzig best, and Grand Declaration of War comes before WLA.

It was proven in Chomsky's propaganda and control of the public mind and then later taken into further depth with Durer's Treaties on Fortification that the Live in Leipzig line up was the zenith of mayhem. The only person to make a slightly good counter arguement to this has been Richard Clarke in Against All Enemies.

I think I like too many styles to be able to classify exactly which is my fave, although I'd guess either Metal or Rock would be fightning over no1...

As to bands/artists asscoiated to the styles I like and I'd class as faves. In the most part I have at least two albums of the following.. (some I only have one and often that is due to fact only one exsists)

Foo Fighters
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Creed
Evanescence - as said above needs New album, although I still love the first.
Avril Lavigne
Queen
Fleetwood Mac
Sheryl Crow
Johnny Cash
Travis
Supertramp
Madness
Incubus
Pink
Rammstein
Snoop Dogg
Nickelback
Sterophonics
Aerosmith
Metallica
Green Day
Phil Collins
REM
Elton John
Backstreet Boys
The Darkness
2Pac
Linkin Park
Manic Street Preachers
Guns'n'Roses
Christina Aguilera
Annie Lennox
Silver Chair
No Doubt and Gwen on her own
David Bowie
Beatles
Gerry Rafferty
Dr Dre
The Rasmus
Sarsh McLachlan
Duran Duran
Bryan Adams
Roxy Music
oh and lastly but by no means the least.. The King, Elvis.

Apart from these I own many more albums of varying artists, although I have strict must have physical album policy and don't have much in the way of downloaded stuff. My quirky music trait I guess.

You should vote for rock or pop, as none of the bands in your list are Metal. And by none I mean none.

Reckoning Night of Sonata Arctica is really good. There is only one song on the album I don't like, other songs are awesome.

Industrial mainstream rock.

If you want some real Industrial Metal, go check out The Kovenant, The Wicked, Cynicon, Ram-Zet, the recent couple of Samael albums, ...and Oceans' last two albums, Naglfar's latest, Belphegor's latest, etc.

None of that is metal either..

Saying Linkin Park is metal is like saying Britney Spears is Death Metal.

EARLY metallica is metal, Thrash metal to be exact, what comes later is watered down to rock. Bad thing Cliff died huh..

If you don´t like Slipknot, that´s fine, but that doesn´t mean you can flame about that. For the record: I don´t like Slipknot either, but I don´t tell people who listen to them that their taste in music was crap. Also, don´t double-post, use the edit function.

Is it just me or is it that every time a topic like this one pops out, it quickly turnes into a praise for various and rather obscure metal bands, as well as determening which bands truly are metal bands and to which sub-metal genre they belong? :?

yeah, it gets obnoxious.
I can list a lot of obscure bands, but does that mena i have any respect for their artistic integrity?

because i listne to soemthing obscure does that make it more "truer" than something well heard of?

Because i can label it into a sub category does this do anythign relevant, other than making me come off as a music facist?

because i listen the latest obscure band does that make my opinion valid?

You should.

That is the essence of underground music, yes. Straight from the heart, unfettered by unnecessary opinions.

Because i can label it into a sub category does this do anythign relevant, other than making me come off as a music facist?

Of course not. Subgenres exist to make our life easier and to find your way into certain bands. For instance, I like Wyrd, which, so I am told, is Atmospheric Black Metal; doing a search for Atmospheric Black Metal introduces me to Nocternity, which I turn out to like tremendously. If I had just done a search for Black Metal, I would have had to trawl through all the bullshit Darkthrone clones and the even worse Cradle of Filth worship bands. Simple as that.

because i listen the latest obscure band does that make my opinion valid?

It shows that you are probably in touch with the underground, and that automatically earns you the right to speak with some authority on such musical matters.

So because someone listens to a band that in general is unknown compared to well known mainstream bands thus haven't made any money yet, your opinion is more valid?

That is the most elistest thing I've ever seen, shame on you.

All people have a fair opinion, if you don't like it tough, that doesn't make yours any more valid.

Okay folks, this is going the completely wrong way. This topic is not meant to start a flame war about what music is better, whose taste is more important or stuff like that.

This topic is meant to be a place where you can state your favourite style of music. If you want to discuss specific bands or what kind of music they play, please open a seperate thread.

That´s not to say you can´t discuss music here; just keep it civil and keep in mind that you cannot discuss taste, no matter wether you are a professional musician or a 12-year-old kid whose only experience with music is listening to the radio. Taste is entirely subjective and the most you can do is give advice on what others should try to see if they like it.

Please just post what music you like, and if you want to engage in a controversial discussion about what is metal and what isn´t, make a new thread for it and keep it civil.

I will remove any post containing even a slight hint at insulting someone else´s taste in music (or in anything else, for that matter). Posting insults might in addition result in you getting a warning.

I voted Rock because I see popular as pop, the modern rubbish (And to be honest, who gives a toss about Brickney Swords?). This is also mostly music that isn't popular anymore (popular music being music that people listen to when they're in their teens. I doubt many teenagers listen to a band like Pink Floyd or Pulp, or Queen, or Madness, except when their parents put it on, :P), so voting popular wouldn't exactly be correct, ;)

Then you shuld check out Ram-Zets new album. It is, togheter with all Vampire State Building records, the best industrial album.

When it comes to the main sream/ underground discussion, I have to partly agree with Damnation. While I can see that some bands have become chart toppers because of a genuine musical quality that have such a universal appeal that people from all over the world will buy their albums, simply for their brilliance, 99% of all main stream music owns it`s sucess to either media hype or marketing.
While some of those bands can have qualities, one can never be entirely certain if that is why people (or indeed your self) buys their records, as the impact of commercials are incredibly strong, and we all are influenced by it in some way either we like to admit it or not.
Music from the underground can still be hyped, but it will be to a much smaller extent, thus increasing the chance that it`s fans are into it purely because of the music, not because they are duped into liking it.

The subgenre discussion is also interesting, as I think it is a factor in many aspects of our lives; if I go to a party, chances are that I will make contact with a person with a cool band t-shirt or a studded belt, than somebody with a completely plain or different style. Not because a persons style of clothing can tell me if he/she is a good human being, or even if we`ll have much in common, but when a person dresses in a certain style, he is putting out a flag, saying that he`s got at least a small common base with people of the same style. The same goes for movies, if somebody just say they like comedies, it is very hard to give any really good recomendations, but if they can gice a subgenre (crazy, action-comedy, spaltter etc.) it is much easier to give good advice.

A good example is Satyricon, in the beginning they were extremely popular in the underground scene, following their debut: "Dark Medieval Times". After a while, something happened, and their music got worse. Guess what? They got commercialised. Falling into the money/popular trap is very easy, and only those with the most self-respect and love for music prevail.

Bad Beast: use the "Ska" option I just added to the poll. ;)

For everyone: the place for discussing the differences among music genres and the effects of being a commercial band or not is not here, but in a seperate thread.
I will not delete the posts dealing with this, but if nobody else creates a thread about it and further comments on it are added here, I will split this topic accordingly.

This topic is meant to state your favourites in music and maybe suggest to others what they could try out. Discussions about what albums from this or that band or singer are good/bad can be included, but that´s about it.

And keep it civil! I won´t say it again.
It´s nice to be important, but it´s more important to be nice.

I love all music, anything and everything, but i love old classic rock from the 60's...and funk from the 70's (don't ask why...). My fav. song ever which i want at my funeral etc. blah blah is Animals - House of the Rising Sun...awesome song!!!

Japanese music in all forms is far superior to all other music, even though i don't yet quiet understand what they are saying...
