Are there any d.net members who live and wargame in Vancouver and fancy a game during the first few weeks of August?

I'm taking my family to Vancouver for our summer holiday (August 5th to 21st) and wouldn't mind an evening of gaming at one of the stores. But I wont be able to bring my army with me - so if there is someone here who can lend me an army that would be great.

cheers

What? No-one here lives in Vancouver? That's crazy talk! Surely someone is based there.

Looks like I'm going to be without any games for a few weeks.

Just from the member list here are a few people who have their location listed as Vancouver.

What's in Vancouver that you'er planning on seeing? Also, Vancouver in which country?

the one in canadialand! (old family joke)

Seeing? Not really sure - probably a trip to whistler and the beach. if you have any other ideas - let me know.

I figured it would be rude to pm those members and "invite" myself. Also, how much are they still members?

I used to live in Vancouver, most beautiful city in the world.

Sorry I cannot help you with a game anymore. Make sure you check out cultural attactions asap, bard on the beach, etc. always something going on.

Also makes sure you get out of the city and visit some of the lakes in the surrounding area. Hiking, climbing is very good there, only an hour or so from a decent peak in beautiful Washington State - Baker at around 10,500 feet fully glaciated.

Missing it already...

I hardly think that is good enough! Where's that Canadian hospitality? Move back right now, just so that I can have a wargame on holiday! ;)

Thanks for the suggestions, any more will be appreciated (especially something that my 14 year old daughter might consider acceptable - which REALLY limits things!)

If you make it down to Seattle I'd be happy to meet up with you. I don't have a spare army, but may be able to find one. If you are interested in hikes in the North Cascades area (1-2 hrs from Vancouver) I could give you some suggestions.

Can't say I know that much about Vancouver. All I ever do there is visit blunt brothers (which isn't real family appropriate) and eat at Tanpopo (best all you can eat sushi restaurant I've found)

The places I like best in that area are the Gulf Islands and Victoria. The Gulf Islands are fairly unpopulated, beautiful islands full of seals and other wildlife. And Victoria is a very pretty town, just don't go swimming near it :?

Damn straight. Check out some of the ferry schedules to the smaller islands, they are pretty awesome.

As to Victoria - little known factoid about Canada's worse environmental laws than the US... :) Sorry bud about all that crap drifting south!

Meh, the tide takes it all to Tacoma along with the stuff we dump :D

OK, so that's swimming near Victoria off the list!

I was contemplating a trip to Seattle. How long does it take (ferry, train or car)?

My wife managed to get some ideas from Daniel Adair (luck of the job).

Thanks for the ideas so far.

I'd say it usually takes about 3 hours to get to Seattle from Vancouver, but it could be a bit less if you get lucky with traffic. Of course if you are unlucky... If you do plan to make it down, let me know. I can give you lots of suggestions for things to do in the area.

We had a great time on Toronto (should that be T'rono) a few years ago. Thought we'd give the west coast a shot.

West is 100x more beautiful and fun. Toront-hole is ugly. No offence to them but that's just a fact. :)

Takes 2.5 - 3 hours to get to Seattle. You can take a train from the station in Vancouver. I recommend it. Seattle is a beautiful city as well.

However as someone else said I really would make an effort to check out the coastal islands. They are so pretty and worth seeing. Check BC Ferries here for a schedule: http://www.bcferries.com/ You can take a ferry from Vancouver's outskirts.

Toronto is an urban wasteland compared to Vancouver. I go every year to visit family and love way more than Toronto. IMHO
Sorry I could bring an army for the both of us, but wife will KILL me !cool!
Langman has got a lot of the good ideas. Island hopping is a great experience. You should check out Granville island (market in Vancouver) and the Grousse Grind (great hike and view from the top). Commercial Street and a neat ethnic spot with shopping and eating. Heck the food is good in so many spots all over "Hongcouver" as they call it now. Inside joke among Vancouver.
There are some good game stores, GW has a bunker and such, but you probably have better in your neck of the woods.

Hmmm in the White Dwarf Canadian supplement in May there was an article on a gaming club that met and played in Vancouver. But I'm pretty sure they were only 40K. No clue if you'd be able to play there or not though. I could try to find the article, and info. if you're intrested. Sorry I'm not much more use to you in helping plan your vacation. I'm stuck here in Ontario, never been to BC, but desperatly want to. This country is too wide! :P For now Ontario is plenty big enough to explore. The Canadian Shield vs. Canadian Rockies lol. Have fun in what ever you and your family do! :D

There is a large club called WCP. http://www.wcp-vancouver.com/

They play 40k, fantasy, and Flames of War - the best game out lately IMHO.

chaosgate has some good ideas there as well. Lots to do and check out!

The club langmann sugested sounds better. They seem to have more systems than just 40 k, I'd check them out sha'a'alaar. And is Toronto that ugly? lol I never thought so.
