Favourite Game Ever?
I was curious as to what sort of games everyone enjoys playing and what games have had an astounding impact on what they may have come to expect from a game.
For me, it is most certainly Dragon Warrior Monsters on the Gameboy Colour (Damn I'm sad they changed the Europe name for the new release to Dragon Quest Monsters...).
This game actually completely changed what I expected of games. It was fun, indepth, well thought out and I sometimes still play it for long lengths of time today. I've get well over 200 hours or so playing it I imagine, probably more.
So what game is your favourite and why is this so? Significant in some way or is it just so damn fun?
(They don't make 'em like they used to )

I love platform games and RPG games ,I am terrible at first person shooter games.
Devil May Cry series is amazing ,though the 2nd one was not as good as the others ,I just love the CC system the way you can change your demon weapons in the middle of a combo is wicked
I know this for a fact that a lot of people will say Final Fanstasy series is the best ,I will most definiatly agree .They changed the way games are today ,amazing storylines its really indepth ,they can create really imaginative and vibrant characters and worlds over and over again. It is more of an investment than a game .The one thing I hate about it is that I will gladly give my life away months on end for it.I love all of them, the best character is Sephiroth that guy is bad ass .

Dynasty Warriors 4 and DW4 Empires. DW4 is just so much better than 3, and 5, I kinda felt they went in the wrong direction there... Though some of the new characters were cool, as was Musou Rage. Empires variation for the endless variety, and making up your own characters. Overall, I just like the way the fighting was worked out, how it's not so much about knowing your way around the handpiece, but about timing, and choosing your targets, stuff like that. Oh, one cool thing about DW5 was the new Bodygaurds, I had one guy who would kill 100 enemies by himself. Sick!
And then there's Age of Empires... AoE2 Conquerors for me. AoE3 is nice, some of the units are really cool, but I liked the variety of maps in the earlier versions.

Love the RPG, DnD offcourse started everything (you know, old school role-playing).
Just give me Neverwinter Nights and I'll be fine, I just love playing it (not the second part though).
It looks good, it plays good, it's fun, even with friends and best of all you can make your own quest/story, just blew me away when it came out.... and still!
Not to forget the Baldur's Gate series, great just great!
Big ass story, bought the game even before I had a computer dragging my save games from my parents house to my friends, just tobe able to play it till I got myself a comp .

Most tabletop RPG's hold my affection. Nothing better.
Among other things, I like D&D (2nd and 3rd ed), World of Darkness, Rifts, Champions... whatever you're into really. There's one for everyone!

Play gamers of every genre. Xbox is all about RPG or shooters. Mass Effect, Call of Duty 4, Halo (for multiplayer) Like GTA as well.
PC is all all about strategy games. Computers been ticking me off laterly but Civ4, Dawn of War, and play alot of Stronghold series still.
Then ther is the tabletop games obviously (Warhammer, Gothic, Mechwarrior (yes we have a good range of the good old metal models, maps and sourcebooks) Also many of the palladium books lines (favourite there is Palladium Fantasy, but we own pretty much all of the PFRPG and Rifts lines between my group). Also have many fthe D20 Star Wars line and the Warhammer RPG (which is pretty nice actually- at least their new line is).

I'm a fan of every single game there is. Seriously, I'll play any game you give me and within ten Minutes I will be pretty damn good at the game. I don't wanna toot my own horn (Or maybe I do) but I have been like this for as long as I can remember.

Eh...
- Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9. All have amazed with a fantastic story and plot.
- Half Life. Again, a great story, and great gameplay.
- Silent Hill series. Not finished with number 4 yet, but looks very good.
- Starcraft. A strategy game with a great story.
- Halo. I love the Halo universe, and the first was great, with a sick plottwist. I've played Halo 2 as well, but it dissapointed me a bit, though still very good story and action. Halo 2 just doesn't cut it to my all time favourites.
- Portal. This is the most original game in a time where all games are alike.
- Max Payne. Again, great story, and unique atmosphere.
I've played A LOT of games, but these are the ones that will forever be in my memory, I guess. To me, the most inmprtant thing is atmosphere and story. Oblivion, for an exampel, was amazingly beautiful in terms of graphics, and offered countless hours of entertainment because of it's large world and numerous quests. It was a great game, that had me much entertained, but it had not real surprises in regard to the main plot. It was more like "Okay, than that happened, what do I need to do now, ok, I'll go do that, oh, then that happened, well, it could be figured out, oh then that happened, guess I'll have to go here now". There was no real excitement to the story, and while it was good, it held no surprises, and it didn't get to you in the way some games does. You didn't feel much either way when
Spoiler ALERT:
Martin sacrificed himself in the end
it just sort of happened, and then you went out to do some other quests. No, a game needs to get inside you to be truly epic, and I think that is what Final Fantasy games in particular do for me. I am the main character, I share the pain, the love, the hope and the despair(although of course to a lesser degree than if I was actually part of the game...). I don't feel like Gordon Freeman, but I still can't help thinking G-man is an arse, and feel a bit of the desperation and the confusion of being trapped inside Black Mesa. A surprise to me was that Portal could do the same: but I think the answer lies in it's simplicity. While the only feelings you might get from this game is frustration over a hard puzzle, and a bit of feeling angry when you receive your cake(those who have played it know what I mean), the lack of information about the character you play and what is going on creates the atmosphere which the character is actually in.
Anyway, I think you get what I mean now.

OMG... I have to tell people NO and plug my ears sincing LALALA everytime they suggest I get into a new game... I am addicted to all of them practically.
#1 Everquest... I have a L80 Warrior in a raiding guild on the Rathe Server.
#2 Warhammer... I wouldn't be on here if it wasn't
#3 Hitman on my PS2... After dealign with Internet peopel for a long tim I have to choke someone to death... Fiber Wire FTW!
The rest are ties for 4th.
Any RTS (Lord of the rings battle for middle earth currently) Age of Empires/Other such games theres one I can never remember the name of but i layed it at my buddies how and I want it badly.
I like FPS... but not that Much.. But my Days as Dumdum playing Battle field Vietnam are fond to me.
Morrowwind 4... Played it at my firends house... Im hooked but to busy with other things.
Axis And Allies... Got 6 hours?
Euchre... Popular card game back home its like spades or pinnacle... only more fun. I play every other year at christmas and will continue to until my Grandpa dies.
WWE Wrestling Games on Playstation... I make a guy who looks like me and then pretend I could actually beat Triple H in a Match.
Dungeons and Dragons 2nd edition. Was perfect... 3rd edition was just Wizards of the Coast grabbing more cash.
Cyber Punk... Omg.. I loved playing this. I ran a campaign for quite a while
Vampire the Masquerade and associated Worlds of Darness games. Well it was a phase... but I still love them to this day.
All I really play these days is my top 3 but if the others present themselves I will go for it. Hard to get pen and paper gamers together now that MMO's exist.

There is one game and one game only and that is StarCraft. All other games are inferior to this masterpiece.
The story is just brilliant and the characters are all so loveable. Kerrigan is the greatest villain of all time.
The Zelda series is also excelent, Ocarina of Time being my favorite.
Super Smash Bros. and Melee are the best "beat 'em up" games around.
Doom, Wolfenstein and Minesweeper are also fantastic.

Planescape Torment: greatest RPG ever I think. How many other games can explore an idea as big as the nature of the self and actually succeed at doing it? An epic achievement. Closest I think a game has ever come to being a truly outstanding artistic achievement. I am still blown away that a game like that ever managed to get made.
Ultima 7: The first and still greatest sandbox RPG. Such a tightly designed world that was open to exploration and was so richly detailed while having a pretty good storyline, this was truly impressive for its day. A game where you could run around with a flying carpet loaded with randomly accumulated detritis, where the Gremlin was your greatest enemy, while searching for hidden caves filled with invisible dragons, or islands with bands of pirates, or hidden stores of magical treasure, none of which has anything to do with the still richly detailed plot and surprisngly good graphics, all being run on a 486? Amazing.
Mario Kart: Ive probably logged thousands of hours of battle mode on that. I dont think any game has ever been quite so truly fun as this (for me anyway). My brother and I had so much damn fun playing this game. How many other games can you actually laugh your ass off nearly every time you lose just because it was so fun?
Mortal Kombat 2: Best fighting game ever, probably another thousand hours of life well spent or well wasted depending on how you look at it.Twisted Metal 1 and 2: No other game can claim to have entertained me for so long by having me fall repeatedly off a 80 story building
Final Fantasy 3: The greatest of the teen angst RPG (chrono trigger deserves honorable mention though). I still hate Kefka to this day.
Phantasy Star: My first true RPG experience, helped me fall in love with the genre
Fallout 1 & 2: Post apocolyptic scenarios have just never been so fun
Starcraft: Some RTS' are better balanced, or more fun for a brief period, but none have ever rivaled the tight design and replayability. I have to give honorable mention to Company of Heroes though. That game kicks serious arse.
Mechwarrior 2: A marvel for its time. Absolutely incredible immersive score.
Ultima Online (during that brief one year period in the beginning when it was actually cool): deserves mention for sarting the whole MMO craze, and actually being insanely entertaining and just plain fun the whole way through, like no MMO has since... At least, it was, until the Man ruined it all! Damn you abstract oppressive force of regulatory authority!
Doom: The first FPS that ran with the idea and made it fun. Ah the good old days of listening to Danzig in the basement at full volume while plastering demons with my fist while on a berzerker pack. Good times.
Serious Sam: More or less a cooperative multiplayer version of Doom with a sense of humour.
Duke Nukem: The FPS that made multiplayer FPS truly entertaining. The pipebomb is still the greatest FPS weapon ever, and the Duke Hollogram remains one of the most entertaining FPS accessories.
Team Fortress: So many victims, so few sniper rifle rounds.
The Total War Series: Lets face it, they're all the same game, but they're all damn fun. Whether you are charging a herd of elephants through roman columns, or butchering fleeing ashigaru spearmen, its the only game that has has effectively translated real world battlefield tactics, even if it still has a ways to go.
Resident Evil: No game has ever achieved that same level of fright that was accomplished walking through that hallway and having the zombie dogs crash through the glass. Badass.
Dominions 2: Probably no one here has heard of it, but it's badass even if the graphics suck donkey balls.
A slew of Tabletop RPGs. Shadowrun holds a special place. Now a days i just run a universal system I made up so I can adapt it to genre ideas I come up with. THe whole concept deserves mention though.
Magic: The Gathering from Unlimited to Legends. Topping even Mariokart in wasted hours of my life (And far exceeding it in wasted money), but achieving similar levels of visceral enjoyment. Those ridiculously complicated last man standing 5 player games were a long term strategizers dream. The Dark, fittingly I suppose, started a long downward trend unfortunately.

Seems the topic wasnt clear enough in its title when it used the word game. game, not games or a list of games but just your favourite game ever.
Quite hard to decide. There is resident evil 1, F.E.A.R and half-life, Alien VS predator 2. All fantastic games but if I were to pick the favourite it has to be F.E.A.R as there is no game I´ve played so many times all the way through and enjoyed every second of it.
The gameplay, graphics and layout is just fantastic. Oh the countless hours I´ve spent on it
Yepp, F.E.A.R it is. My favourite game ever... so far

Layne.
I totally agree, the DW series are great, although it sucks that they removed a lot of characters in Dynasty Warriors 6. Age of Empires 2 was my first game, and I still play it every now and then.
Civilization 4 is also awesome, as well as Assassins Creed, but nothing beats the replayability of Age of Empires 2. Hands down best game.
I'm hoping to see Warhammer Online on my list soon as well.
