Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Post by Eeeeron »

Went to see this earlier in the week. I thought it was fairly good but the wife thought it was absolutely awful.

Spoiler:
The main problem I had with it was the aliens at the end. Indiana Jones has always been about supernatural and holy artefacts and then to bring in the aliens was a bit odd.

I did like the little nod to the ark of the covenant at the beginning and the set-up for Shia to take over the role at the end.
Don't hate the player, hate the game.

I am going to see it. When I can fit it in in my schedule(pesky exams!) me and some friends are going to watch the three first, and then proceed to see the fourth in the cinema.

( Warning, spoilers in)

Your wife was right.

Crap movie, boring and silly script. I blame on Spielberg and his obsession with the alien stuff. Indiana Jones universe always have been based on the quest of legendary relics,: Ark, Grial, magic stones, ok. UFOs and aliens are TOTALLY out of place there.

Ok, Cate Blanchett is really HOT, and she do a great performance. but i cant forgive the rest. Indi survives from a Nuclear blast hide in a fridge? oh, cmon. His son is Tarzan? cmon. My mind were erasing scene after scene and stupid joke after joke constantly. A dreadful end for a brilliant saga, i personally prefer avoid it in my memory.

I have taken the liberty of editing your post, in order to conceal the spoilers.

However there were 2 kinda silly scenes, Stormbringer Ruler said about them.

i thought it was fine up till about the last 1/2 hour - some of it was silly so you either laughed or got annoyed, personal preference really.

Shame about the subject matter though - didnt fit Indi properly - stick to the old themes, they work

I liked it. I think it stood up to the previous ones about as well as Rocky Balboa stood up to the original Rocky films (IMO pretty well).

The ending was a bit too hollywood for me though. And the single, movie defining, huge action sequence where the music really got going never seemed to happen like it did in the first ones. But then he is 65!

It was a good film with a duff story line. Oh and Indianna Jones is better with Nazi's which is why Temple of Domb wasn't as good as the other two.

I must say I missed the Nazi's with the giant train cannon etc. Thought story line was terrible but meh, it wasn't that bad.

Having grown up with Indy in my household, I thought it was one of the worst movies ever made (of any type). Unlike other "bad" movies which are enjoyable (Plan 9 From Outer Space, anyone?), there were scenes that had me literally punching my own head in the theatre.

I liked it. Pretty much action everywhere they went. Story line was ok. I liked the humour however.

Alright, I'm just going to post up my favourite parts. If you don't want to see them because you consider them spoilers, THEN DON'T HIGHLIGHT THEM.

Favourite part.

The ant part was pretty cool when they consumed that KGB fellow from the inside out.

Also Stormbringer, the story was mainly about finding El Dorado (the city of gold) which is plenty to do with Indiana Jones, however I do agree that the alien part was a bit hard to digest. Plus there is nothing wrong with surviving nukes in fridges and having a son who can swing from branches. Not much different then pulling out hearts (Kali ma!) and Arcs which vaporize you.

i also missed the nazi's
i went into this film with LOW expectations, and because of that i enjoyed it slightly more than i would have done if i went in with high expectations.
Spoilers, Highlight to Read

i would have understood if the crystal skull was actually some sort of artifact that feel from the sky and powered some weird defense system for the city, but a UFO??? i mean come on. I did like the nod to the Ark though.

I was looking for a bit more in this movie. However, you're right that he is getting a bit old. Which showed in the movie by the way. The ending was kind of far fetched and really didn't do well at finishing off the series. Maybe that's why he did it. Harrison needed a new house so he did another one?!!

I really liked it - it might not be the best movie ever but it works really well as a sequel - they kept nearly everything in style. Although i did find the sword duel scene reeeally cheesy =P

So many people are down on it, I figure for 2 reasons:

1. Apparently it's "cool" to not like it, so people are saying it was lame even if they did enjoy it so that they go with the crowd and appear "cool".

2. People have been waiting for a new Indy film for so long that they built up unreasonable expectations. They also have built up the originals in their mind as being holy grails of adventure movies, pardon the pun. This combination has lead people to be disappointed in a good movie that stands just fine alongside the other Indy movies, which were also good, but not outstandingly awesome.

I liked the movie myself. Yes, some parts were rediculous, but then that's what Indy movies are about. It entertained me, kept with the Indy flavour and I didn't expect it to do any more than that. It's not like an Indy movie will deeply move you or anything, it's a hollywood action-adventure flick.

So to sum up, 7/10, better than Temple of Doom but not Last Crusade or Raiders. My only real problem was Shia LeBouf, they should have used Short Round ;)

Okay.. Indy Jones movies are pulp.. we are aware of that yes? And While the ending was kinda 'out there' I'll grant.. how is it more 'out there' or unrealisitic than say a gold box openeing to unleash the Wrath of God, or a heart yanking guy with red head paint being thrown to his death because a River Stone unexplicably catches fire, or coming across a eight hundred year old Knight of the Crusades whos been hanging out in a cup filled cave with no food, sustinance, lavatory or bathing facilities that we know of...

But this movie.. Yeah.. that ending was LOADS less believeable than that....

C'mon folks.. Really?
Oh and as for that 'old' argument coming up again.. Harrison Ford (whom I'm not a real fan of personally) again did most if not all his own stunts in this production as well as the others. I wonder if he stapled the hat to his head again?

I have to wonder... Does the new "thing" not screw up the focus of film 1 and 3?

I mean:(highlight to read, but SPOILERS)
I haven't seen it yet, but you guys spoield it for me :P Anyways, if it is really about aliens... Doesn't it screw up the other films assumption that christianity is "real"? How does aliens work with the bible?

Mind you, this will not turn out into a religious debate.

This film can work with the Biblical nature of the other films. Popular Christianity proclaims that the subject matter of the new Indy movie cannot be real, yet there is no Biblical evidence either way. The Bible "abstains" from the topic, if you will.

It was fine, I quite liked that he was old and rickety in the movie as in real life these days. I'm amazed that they let him hid in the fridge though, those things are a death trap for kids even now. If some kid dies in a fridge in the US in the next hundred years they are going to get their asses sued.

The most annoying this was watching the movie and noticing that most of the sceens being based on sceens from other movies (especially the end being a rip-off of the Mummy less the you-know-what). George lucas wrote it, and the last several Star Wars movies proved conclusively that his imagination was used up on the first 3. With a different writer it could have been much better.
