I've tried to load WarSeer several times today. No luck; have they died/gone offline/been DDoS attacked? What's up with it...? :? :? :?

Warseer has been up and down quite a bit (and very, very slow too when it was working) in the last few days. I'm not a member there but I often follow links to the site and I've also had trouble accessing it in the last couple of days

One of the mods from Warseer stated on another forum that he didn't know why it was still down or the cause.
There had been some planned maintenance however.

Still down, from what I can tell; anyone know why?

Doesn't seem anyone seems to know for sure. There is a 5 page discussion on the subject on the 9th age forum, but really just stating that no ones knows.

Well I hope it returns, but I won't hold my breath; I believe this is how Portent died too, i.e. pretty quietly..... :( :( :(

There is clearly bad juju in naming a wargaming forum after the ability to see the future. Tzeentch sure does have a sense of humour.

Rumours going around that Warseer recently received a Cease and Desist order. Any truth in that?

I think that one was ruled out.

If that were the case, every f-ing fan forum for anything on the internet would be getting C&D letters! :roll: :roll:

The message on the homepage is interesting;

"We experienced a major problem with our database files. On examination the problem had been prevalent for sometime which meant it had been copied into some of our backup file. To make matters worse the issue also effected the webserver. As a result not only could we not not act as a forum we could not operate as website at all which is why we could not post an explanation on the Home Page as to why the forums were closed."

If indeed it was a database problem that "had been prevalent for some time", then quite obviously it wasn't something that was immediately affecting the operation of the site, otherwise it would have been down sooner. The site had been intermittent for a week or so before it went down completely. Presumably this was due to the operation being interrupted intermittently as the techies tried to fix whatever the issue actually was - From this, and the subsequent outage, we can deduce that the problem was severe enough to have permeated throughout the server, and required that the whole thing be taken offline in order to be fixed.

Given that whatever the problem was, it had been going on long enough for the backups to be affected as well as the main database, the most likely culprit would either be a malware infection at the server, or an ongoing security breach of some kind (ie. the server has been hacked). Either way, Warseer members might do well to change their passwords as soon as the facilities to do so are all back up and running...

Just an observation.
