Next year, ETC will be still playing WH8.
It will be in Greece (which will have recovered from their own RL End Times, hopefully).

All WH8 lovers, you can resume breathing.

That seems like good news, I think. If WFB continues as a competitive game, we may have a system for everyone and everyone can play what they like. In this case, I think the existence of such a grandiose tournament may be a helpful contribution in keeping WFB alive and kicking.

Now all we need is people to keep on discussing tactics, battle reports and ideas like they did a few months ago. :P

I am not an ETC player (though my country send a team every year), but I am relieved that 8th ed will be played. ETC has a great influence in the gaming community in my country (the majority of the players play whatever is being played in ETC), so this recent development meant I can find 8th ed opponents more easily compared to 9th age.

Actually, ETC will play 9th Age.

Good update since the original post was before 9th age was even conceptualized.

When did this change?

A while back, before 9th Age was even a thing. The choices were 8th, 9th, AoS or KoW.
But then, if I understood the rumours and news correctly, a part of the 9th Age crew is or was part of the ETC crew. I'm not sure how that influenced the polls ;)

Well, to be perfectly frank, if 8th has to be dispensed with, I was always going to be in favour of 9th Age replacing it anyway, at least in my gaming circles. I'm sure the Team Ireland guys who actually play these events would agree, as I haven't heard very complimentary things about GW at the moment, much less about AoS..... :(

What you hear about GW and AoS has a lot to do with the circles and people which you surround yourself with, I guess. My local group is quite divided on the subject and 8th is coming back as a neutral meeting point it seems ;)

But that has little to do with ETC. I was always a bit puzzled by the choice of the ETC. 8th could have continued for another year. That a vote was pushed through so quickly, burning the safe ground looks like an irrational choice. My guess is that there were emotions at play. I doubt that's a good decision maker but this doesn't invalidate 9th Age as successor.

Nor do I think that this puts 9th Age at risk. 9th Age is already a success in many ways. If anything, the ETC organisation is the one taking the gamble.

I think abandoning 8th was the best decision of the ETC, the next step would be to ban 40k ;) . Get rid of of GW games form the team event

Excluding ANY game for being produced by X, Y or Z manufacturer seems pretty dumb, IMO.

Yeah, I agree; I'm saying don't hate AoS because GW made it, hate it because the rules are crap, given how it's basically turned #WHFB into #WH40K.....
