Wecome Asta to D.net! :D

Not only you need not to shelve them, but better, you can now dust off your fleetmaster, your corsairs, your spearmen, your swordsmen, your dreadlord on foot, your sorceress on CO or dragon, your manticore, your K-beast...

In 8th ed, some units had become autochoice.
In 9th, nothing is autoshelf.
It is just that we need to get out of our confort zone when learning to use again our army.

I understand their problems, but their 'solutions' are making DE feel a lot like something OTHER than DE.

Last-but-one release of rules before ETC:
http://www.the-ninth-age.com/index.php?simple-page/
Explanations of major changes are here: http://www.the-ninth-age.com/news/index ... 9-release/
Probably the most important is: The target power level of all books was NOT the average of the previous v0.11 version. ALL armies (with very few exceptions) have seen the power level of their best units tuned down.

Hmm, interesting; looks like I'll have to replace my copies of the rules - they're out of date already. Still, at least 9th Age is free! :D

We pretty much knew what was coming from the sneak peeks, so there's no real surprises here. I like that Cults are no longer a 'no brainer,' and non-aligned lists are a valid option. 1+ AS Peg/Steed characters are back in a more balanced form. Fleetmaster upgrades are pricey now, but they are an easy way to get high armour saves without paying for magical allowance, so that's understandable, and the -1D6 Flee roll is now universal, which is cool. Not so sure about the Beastmaster upgrade, though. Yema Dancers seem to have a good niche with access to Skirmish now. The Altar's new third power has universal application, and the reduction to T5 seems a necessary rebalancing.

There's a couple of oddities which need further attention. Corsairs still seem awkward in their current state. Tower Guard at 15 points after the first model are hella expensive, and a whopping 18ppm with all upgrades for something that's T3 AS5+. Same for Executioners, who are on a further downward slide now they lose Killer Instinct, too. Medusa's may need a total rework.

Other than that, I think the book's in a pretty good state (especially comparing to some of the victims of 0.99, RIP Saurian Ancients good night sweet prince).

Fleetmaster upgrade special rule - enemy units which break from combat with a unit containing this model, roll an additional d6 and discard the highest. It used to only apply whilst the model was in a Corsair or Legionnaire unit, but now it applies to everything.

Great news for my Fleetmaster BSB, who returns to the Tower Guard unit bringing them even more synergy. Halberd and Armour of Destiny for 3 I7 S5 attacks hitting on 2s/3s and re-rolling wounds (thanks to the Bloody Banner), plus a 3+/4++. I had a lot of success with this build in 8th edition.
