Each participant will roll a dice to decide who gets the first turn, for purposes of the Magic phase.
Both participants will count as charging in the first round.
Attacks will be made in order of initiative. In the case of a draw, the character whose turn it is will attack first (to avoid draws).
End Times magic rules will be used if either player requests.
Conflicting magic items are rolled off each turn to see which applies (eg "Always hits on a 2+" vs "Only hit on a 6")
There will be no Psychology of Break tests.
Only one character per side - unless specified in the army book (for example Naestra & Arahan).
No summoning (no way for summoned units to enter arena).
Characters count as being in a Challenge.
The results were then put into the table and an overall victor found.
A couple of months ago I picked Malekith as my model, fortunately for me he got a new rule set yesterday and he went to town with it. He began by been paired up against Archaon. This was one I was nervous about! Both of us were bringing 10 attacks to the table, however the addition of Loremaster Shadow and d3+1 wounds sealed the deal for Malekith, taking around 6 wounds before getting through the Everchosens armour.
Next up saw Malekith taking on Nagash. While Nagash had around 40 spells at his disposal it wasn't enough to defend against the Eternity King. The d3+1 wounds leaving Nagash on his last wound after one round of combat and picking off the remaining wound the next round.
A lumbering Ghurk was to be the third opponent. While the other 2 of the Glotkin were not to make an appearance this hadn't stopped Ghurk from taking out Bragg and Valkia in previous rounds. Malekith wasted no time and dug in with 11 wounds first round. The next magic phase gave Ghurk a chance to get his regen right up to a 2+. But with 10 attacks coming his way, there was one that got through, felling the monstrous mutation that was the Glotkin.
What is this? Nagash has come back and is up for another round? 4 unsaved wounds were the reply as Malekith swung with Asuryath Reforged. Rolling only 1's and 2's on his multiple attacks still meant 8 wounds as the undead sorcerer fell for the second time to take an overall second place.
So, while no means evenly fought in terms of points, Malekith claimed victory over the End Times Arena of Death, 10 wounds more than making up for the lack of a ward save against the majority of the models that took part.
