Thank you for the replies, feedback and activity on the battlelog always motivates.

I will bring the witchstar/light council to the Grand Tournament in the Netherlands this year, but I am also attending a tournament in november organized by Bloodstorm.nl, the same organisers as the 1000 mini tournament. This time we have to bring a 2999 list with the only restriction that no unit can cost more than 450 points. My goal is to make an comp 5 army and as Bloodstorm desribes a comp 5 army : If your army scores 5 comp points, it will probably only consist of soft units, and you will have a very hard time winning any games. You are purposely handicapping yourself, because you enjoy a serious challenge.

So only soft & bad units instead of powerful units. This gives me the a great challenge to make a list with all the soft units (fleetmaster, manticore, spearman, darkshards, assassins, harpies, medusa) and without all the good stuff (LVL4, dreadlords+masters, witch elves, dark riders, executioners, RBT, warlocks, black guard, cold one chariots)

What do you think of this?

Fleetmaster - talisman of protection, enchanted shield, general 205

Master - Manticore draogbane gem, charmed shield, full armour, lance 273
Master - Manticore dragonhelm, full armour, lance 273
LVL 2 - Shadow - dispell scroll 140
LVL 2 - Shadow - 115
Assassin - dark venom, AHW 112
Assassin - dark venom, AHW 112

40 Dreadspears - FC, standard of discipline 405
28 Corsairs - FC, RHB, banner of swiftness 353

9 Cold One Knights - FC, banner of swiftness 315
10 Sisters of Slaughter - FC, flaming banner 190
1 Kharibdyss 160
1 Medusa

One big anvil of 40 spears under command of the fleetmaster who can make them unbreakable supported by a bsb master with ring of hotek who provides them some magical protection. 25 darkshards provide me with some shooting while the double manticore masters go rampage together. 10 cold one knights and kharibdyss provide me with hammers to smash in the flanks of unit hold by spearman. Three assassins can make the spearman a lot more killy or make enemy think twice to charge the darkshards. Shadow magic fill the gaps with mindrazor and the withering. I will need some practice but also the attribute can be a nice tool in the list combined with steed of shadows.

It will need a lot of practice, but I feel the list although consisting out of suboptimal choices provide some tactical possibilities. What do you guys think?

You are certainly giving yourself a hell of a challenge with that list.
Dual Manti is a nice touch but it seems you are needing to take a lot of magic items to compensate for the sub optimal choices you are using.
I am not going to suggest changing the list particularly as I like what you are trying to do and I am really intrigued in how it will play.

What about changing the fleetmaster and one master on manticore to a high beastmaster? They are usually considered turkeys. You might try

High beastmaster, manticore + IHS, ogre blade, cloak of twilight, dragonbane gem, enchanted shield

This gives you a magic weapon in case of ethereals and also a bit more punch on either your kharibdyss or manticore. Regardless, good luck

I agree on the magic items, therefore one assassin has to go to use two assassin builds :

Cleaver 165
- Manbane
- Obsidian Blade
- Repeater Handbow

Eversor III 165
- Sword of Anti-Heroes
- Repeater Handbow
- Dark Venom
- The Other Trickster Shard
- Dragonbane Gem

The Lore Attribute: Smoke and Mirrors can maximise the use of the Assassins. Imagine the opponent who sees a big fat juicy target of 25 darkshards with two lvl2's and the assassins have already appeared in the spearman unit. Then its my magic phase and those sorceresses are replaced by the Eversor and Hidden Dragon.

The spells I want from magic are ideally:
- Steed of Shadows / Miasma
- The Withering
- Pit of Shades
- Mindrazor

Regarding Manticore masters, I upgraded one to become the BSB instead of the master on foot so that gives me 155 points to play with. I gave both Manticores Blind Rage for the 4 - 7 attacks each. I can't wait to test them together.

Master I 361
- Lance
- Cloak of Twilight
- Shield
- Heavy Armour
- Sea Dragon Cloak
- BSB
- Iron Hard Skin
- Blind Rage

Master II 335
- Lance
- Charmed Shield
- Heavy Armour
- Sea Dragon Cloak
- Dawnstone
- Potion of Strength
- Iron Hard Skin
- Blind Rage

Greetings!

As I want to field a Fleetmaster next Bloodstorm.nl tournament I made some lists and came to this version. The goal is to join with a comp 5 army, so only soft choices, but still put enough tricks and synergies inside it to make it possible to steal the win. Most games are based on fortitude instead of victory points. The list is as following.

Fleetmaster ('The Wall' build) - Talisman of Protection, Enchanted Shield 205

BSB Master, Lance, Cloak of Twilight, Shield, Heavy Armour, Sea Dragon Cloak, Manticore, Iron Hard Skin, Blind Rage 361
Master, Lance, Charmed Shield, Heavy Armour, Sea Dragon Cloak, Dawnstone, Potion of Strength, Manticore, Iron Hard Skin, Blind Rage 335

Sorceress, LVL 2, Shadow, Dispell Scroll 140
Sorceress, LVL 2, Shadow, Sacrificial Dagger 140

Assassin ('The Cleaver' build), Manbane, Obsidian Blade, Repeater Handbow 165
Assassin, ('The Eversor' build) Sword of Anti-Heroes, Dark Venom, The Other Trickster Shard, Repeater Handbow 160

32 Dreadspears, Full Command, standard of discipline 333
10 Corsairs, Full Command, RHB 140
10 Corsairs, Full Command, RHB 140
10 Corsairs, Full Command, RHB 140

5 Harpies 75
9 Cold One Knights, Full Command, Banner of Swiftness 315
10 Sisters of Slaughter, Full Command, Flaming Banner 190
1 Kharibdyss 160

2999 points

Fleetmaster
The fleetmaster is our most fluffiest characters and I have seen no battle report with them so far. There has been done a great study about possibilities with him which I hope to exploit. Unbreakable spearman? Yes, please! I will use the 'wall' build with 2+/4++ to keep him alive as long as possible.

Manticore Masters
The manticore masters duo provide me with some flying terror causing crazy killing machines to put pressure on enemy lines. They have to take out warmachines and missile troops early game and counter-charge medium units mid-game.

Assassins
The assassin duo are there to present some nasty suprises for the enemy. With Obsidian Blade and Anti-Heroes Sword they provide an answer against enemy deathstars and armoured units / characters. They can hide in the Dreadspears, Sisters of Slaughter and AHW Corsairs and can make any of those units much more dangerous. Ideally they always come side by side where the OTS removes ward saves and OB with manbane kills most things.

Sorceresses
Shadow magic is what will make the most of the list. The attribute can re-locate the assassins and fleetmaster pretty easy while sometimes trick the enemy in charging or hunting units. Ofcourse mindrazor is going to be the game-winning spell with this list but the withering and the pit gives me equally dangerous spells. For most spells it doesn't matter how much dice to roll for a LVL4 and LVL2 and also spell selections remains the same. Dispell scroll is a must-have in tournament environment and sacrificial dagger can provide me some extra PD in important the magic phases. Miasma is a great spell to mess with enemy battle plans and both Enfeelbling Foe and Steed of Shadows can be usefull most games. Mindrazor can also provide nice touch of making both assassins strength 9 + the rest of the unit and then bring them to another unit with the attribute. Sorceresses will therefore likely always be deployed in corsair bunker.

Dreadspears
The spears provide my main anvil and bunker for the fleetmaster. They will be deployed as deep as possible and try to pin units down so they can be flanked by mindrazored infantry or smashing cold one knights. With the possibility to become unbreakable because of Fleetmaster they hold something pinned for a long time.

RHB Corsair spam
These are my chaff while also good in hunting of enemy chaff with their RHB. I can throw them in enemy flanks hoping on mindrazor going through, if not, no problem! They can also concentrate fire power, nobody likes to get 60 bolts in their face, especially with the Withering on them. Ofcourse its also fluffy because the army is led by a Fleetmaster. Actually I really look forward using them as I have high expectations, I tried darkshard spam before but corsairs can be used in a lot more ways than darkshards I expect.

Cold One Knights
The hammers of the army.

Kharibdyss
Nobody likes to be pinned down by ranked anvild and then counter-charged by the Kharibdyss. Sea monster so also a fluffy choice but terror, S7, thunderstomp and re-roll LD tests is always great to have on your side. He might help attract some missile fire towards him and away from the manticores.

Harpies
I never used them before, but they are still the best throw away unit to prevent dangerous charge taking out something important.

Sisters of Slaughter
The specialist unit I never leave home as they are perfect against monsters, elite infantry and cheap fodder. With the flaming banner they take out the regen units like trolls and crypt horrors. RHB corsairs can be used as screener for enemy missile fire, as soon they reached combat they will make always make up their point cost.

Greetings, long time!

Graduation has been taking most of my time and therefore I missed the Grand Tournament, but I will still go to the Bloodstorm tournament. After advice from one of the organizers of the Bloodstorm.nl tournament to not focus too much on the comp score and just take whatever I wanted (but not too strong) I decided to test my light council in tournament setting. To adjust it to the tournaments power level I included some soft choices instead of adding optimal use of the extra 599 points and left the overpowered core Witch Elves at home. I also unmounted the light council who could otherwise always escape any attempts of the enemy to capture them. But I could not resist to finally take one of my favourite units as the centre of the army: The Executioners.

The basics and concept of the list are the same as my former list; one big block of infantry powered up by dreadlord, ring of hotek and cauldron of blood. The rest of the army is chaff, while sisters of slaughter can provide a deadly second underestimated threat in combat. Harpies, Reaper Bolt Throwers, Spearman, Darkshards, Dark Riders and Shades (in that order) can be sacrificed. Lore of Lights is my favourite lore because of its diversity and subtle use.

Dreadlord, Heavy Armour, Sea Dragon Cloak, Enchanted Shield, Ogre Blade, Ring of Hotek - 249
Supreme Sorceress, LVL 4, Lore of Light, Sacrificial Dagger, Talisman of Protection - 290

Sorceress, LVL 1, Lore of Light, Dispell Scroll 105
Sorceress, LVL 1, Lore of Light 80
Death Hag, Battle Standard Bearer, Cry of War, Cauldron of Blood - 315

24 Darkshards, Full Command, Scarecrow Banner - 323
20 Spearman, Full Command - 210
5 Dark Riders, Shields, Repeater Crossbows, Standard Bearer - 110
5 Dark Riders, Shields, Repeater Crossbows, Standard Bearer - 110

30 Executioners, Full Command, Banner of Swiftness - 405
5 Shades, Standard Bearer, Great Weapons - 100
5 Shades, Standard Bearer, Additional Hand Weapons - 100
Reaper Bolt Thrower - 70
Reaper Bolt Thrower - 70
Reaper Bolt Thrower - 70
5 Harpies - 75

10 Sisters of Slaughter, Full Command, Banner of Eternal Flame - 190
5 Warlocks - 125

Total : 2997

What do you think? The list have already been submitted and I hope to playtest it as soon as possible.

This weekend I will heading to my second and last Fantasy tournament of this year! Bloodstorm.nl Teams
The idea is that you got paired up with 4 other players and play like ETC, pushing armies forwards by captains etc. I have no experience with such tournaments, but its sounds great! The other good things is that the lists are open and already published, so I have the possibility to prepare.

There are 30 players in total, so far all but 6 armies seems good matchups, and as we got paired it might be possible to avoid the bad matchups! I will see if I can upload the armies here for general discussion.

My army is strong against deamons, vampire counts, undead legions (10 armies)
My army is good against warriors of chaos and dark elves. (7 armies)
My army is average against skaven, dwarfs, empire, lizardmen, high elves (6 armies)
My army is bad against armies with cannons and life magic (wood elves) and chaos dwarfs (6 armies)

I am looking forward to use the gained experience with light magic and concepts of the list. Main changes is that I have 20 spears to sacrifice every battle making my magic phase much stronger and I take executioners instead of witch elves.
