MAGIC in close combat????

Post by Peteralsen »

Is it possible to use magic in close combat!!

If it is it doesn't make sence! Fighting a huge chaos warlord and suddenly take a time-out to use magic!!

Yes you can use magic in close combat, the only exeption are magic missiles they can`t be cast into close combat(unless your cheesy skaven) and a mage can`t cast them while He/She is in combat.

Curios, can a mage cast all spells in combat, which would be while he's in the CC? Cause it says on page 135 that u can't cast any magic into CC unless it states so in the spell or the spell effects ur self (last part corrected in some chronicle). But if it wasn't that u meant, then just ignore my correction.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say, but I'll try to explain it.

You can cast spells when you are in close combat, but you can't cast spells at units in close combat, unless it is stated in the spells description. So you can't cast spells at the unit with which you are in combat unless stated in the spell's description you can cast it in close combat.
But you can cast spells at other units for example that are not in combat when you are in close combat. (All LOS resctricions ofcourse still apply)
And ofcourse you can't cast magic missiles when you are in close combat

yes you can, but hilariously, you can't use 'word of pain'.

Hehe, time enough to cast other spells but not enough time to say a word :? :? :?

When in doubt pay attention to Lord Thalack, he's normally right and normally posts the answer before anyone else has a chance as well.

In this case LT's post says it all.

So you can cast magic on another unit outside CC and fight with your Sorceress in the same turn?

If the sorceress can see the unit, for LOS requiring spells. fighting phase and magic is two seperate, just like moveing and magic. :)
Yes.

yes, though her LOS is severely restricted (quite probably she can see 2 troopers belonging to the unit she is fignting. so it has to be a spell that dosnt need LOS) and allows to be cast when in close combat

But this is not something that the spell text says, it's under the rules, like as L.T. said, magic missiles can't be cast in or out of CC. (hope I'm right)

Lord T's explanation is spot on! The only thing I would clarify is that LOS is very important and very restricted when in CC. Any spell that doesn't need LOS, is a big advantage, as these can be cast whilst in CC. (Although only at the unit, you are in combat with, if the spell description allows you to cast into combat!)

"Although only at the unit, you are in combat with, if the spell description allows you to cast into combat!"

Huh?

Beside, when you're in CC with a mage, you still only have the units LOS, so in fact, you can't see out... :? is this not true?

Sorry, I've read it again and agree the English is poor.....

You can only cast into combat with a spell that specifically allows you to do so (Such as Soul Stealer)
Therefore if you are in combat, you can only casts spells at the unit you are in combat with, if that spell is allowed to be cast into combat. (such as soul stealer)

You can cast other spells at different units, as long as the spells allow you to do so (No Magic Missiles, due to LOS restrictions), but you could cast say, Uranons thunderbolt at a different unit than the one you are in combat with, as long as that different unit wasn't also in combat.

You are correct re LOS and the unit!

But when the Sorc. is alone and on foot in CC. She has 360 degrees LOS and should be able to cast every spell. Is that right?

I have no clue since everyone on this topic says different things.
My question is:

Can a sorceress who is alone in CC use Dominion on another enemy unit 9" away from her on little fight???
I don't think anyone has answered this.
LT mayde a very good explanation but I'm not sure I got it all.

If it's possible to use magic in CC on another unit then it's pretty messed up, since if you are in the middle of a fight with an Orc warlord then suddenly u see another unit to use magic against.

As long as the enemy unit is not in CC, then yes you can.

the spell doesnt need line of sight so yes she can. had the spell needed line of sight she could just target the enemy she is fighting.
