question on crystal of midnight

Post by Cougar_roger »

how is the spell lost randomized? Is it the spells that he knows or do you roll a D6 and pick that numbered spell from the lore he is using?

Either rolling a die like you've said or - if used - discarding one spellcard.

The question seems, to me, to be whether the Wizard may "lose" a spell it does not know. My understanding of it has always been that you choose, at random, a power that the Wizard knows at the moment the Crystal is used.

So, if spellcards are used, just discard a random one from those the Wizard uses. If not, you can either roll on the lore's chart until you hit one the Wizard knows, or (more effecient) you assign each spell to an equal range of dice results. I.e.: "If the dice comes out 1, 2, or 3, it'll be 'Chillwind', else it'll be 'Word of Pain'.

Anyways, that's how I'd play it; I don't remember if I ever used the Crystal at all.

to further complicate this question, how do you factor in such "spells" as invocation of nehek or our new zero level spell? Can you lose these?

How is is anything complicated?

You give each spell the wizard knows a number, or you can use their lore spell #s and you eliminate one spell that wizard knows.

Ain't rocket science.

No, most of the time it is not.

What is the general consensus on Skaven Engineers? You know, the guys with the warp lightning thingy. I have read somewhere around here that the CoM can be used against those guys. But do they know the spell themselves, i.e spellcasters, or is it just a stick similar to our WotK?

Dont have a Skaven book around so I thought I´d just ask since tha question is up.
You have reached the Department of Circular Reasoning.

Please hold.

Skaven book says
"Warlock Engineers are Level 1 Wizards, but they don't know any spells"

An equipment option allows use of Warp Lightning, thus you cannot make them forget what they do not know.

Sure they do, they are level 1 wizards. But their spell is part of their equipment, not part of their wizard level. So to remove their spell you need to remove their non-magical equipment (I'm pretty sure it's impossible)
