Tzeentch's Firestorm

Post by Furiouscado »

Alright I don't know if I'm missing something here, but this spell looks really stupid.

Are you allowed to opt out of making a new unit of horrors even if you have the extra models?

The way I see it, you can kill 12 models MAX, giving you a max of 4 horrors..
This new 50 point unit:
A) Can't break ranks
B) Can't cast spells
C) Can't cut down fleeing enemies
D) is worth 2 points more than the models...
E) Can't be pumped by casting the spell again

Am I missing a point to this spell other than 2D6 str 5 hits casting on a 13+?

They are created no matter your wish, yes that makes the spell horrible. Easily the worst spell in the whole list.

You only create the models if you have them available. So the trick is to not buy any spare horrors ;).

Although in all fairness a guarenteed 2D6 S5 spell upon casting is never something to be sniffed at. They're ok for tying things up like Zombies and holding combats and whatever, but Linda's right, there's better in the list.

well to be fair the other comparable magic missle does 2d6 S D6+4, so the minimum S is 5, spell is easier to cast, and doesn't come with the liablity of creating a unit that can't do anything

I was discussing the spell during a game the other day and the best reason we could come up with was the fact that its not a magic missile - so the Lord of Change (or whatever) can cast it while in CC. (That or a typo!)

Well, the new unit of Horrors can block/redirect a charge at least. ;)

actually, the reasoning i've heard for the way the spell is now seems to make the most sense

i heard that during play testing it followed all the same rules, however instead of 2D6 hits, it hit every model in the unit, thus against some armies, 20 S5 hits was not out of the question, the spell was found to be too powerful during play testing, as as such it was nerfed down to it's current worthless status

If it was just each model killed gave you a horror it'd be far more valuble. While needing to kill three models is ok for the Nurgle lore (as then you're getting a swarm for 3 kills) it's pointless for Horrors. I wouldn't be surprised if they had just been copy-pasting the Lores, and forgot to change the number.

That would surprise me. Past versions of Tzeentch's Firestorm have created one model per 3 kills, so this version just carries on the tradition.
