Collecting questions for a coming FAQ
I think it would be helpfull to collect Q&A on the new book in a single thread and then ship it of to GW with a little help of maybe DA.
If a mod feels like making a nice sticky thread with flashing colours then be my guest
(Edit by Thanee: Speaking of flashing colours... I'm taking the liberty to make this a lil better structured... feel free to edit other questions posted to this thread in here, to keep things in one place.)
Unresolved Questions:
Q: Do characters joining a unit of Corsairs with Sea Serpent Standard gain Frenzy?
Q: Can you take a Null Talisman and also another talisman?
Q: Are Null Talismans unique? The rules specify that a single model may purchase multiple Talismans but does not explicitly state whether multiple models can purchase them (violating the one of each item per army rule).
Q: When a character bearing a single Null Talisman joins a unit of Black Guard with a Tower Master who also has a single Null Talisman, does the unit have MR1 or MR2 then?
Q: Do area of effect spells such as Wind of Undeath, Black Horror or the Burning Head miscast on a double if they affect any model within 12" of the Ring of Hotek?
Q: If Power of Darkness dice are lost as a result of a miscast, but not used to cast a spell, do they inflict S4 hits?
Q: Can an unrevealed Assassin use his Cloak of Twilight to teleport another character? If so, can he do that without revealing himself?
Q: If a model carrying the Pendant of Khaeleth hits and wounds a model with the Black Amulet, and the 4+ Ward is passed, does the rebounded wound count as being at the strength of the character with the Pendant, or simply as not having a strength value (thus making the pendant ineffective in such a case)?
Q: Does a unit suffering casualties from multiple Noxious Breath attacks have to make multiple Ld checks to charge?
Q: How do Bladewind attacks get distributed against a Hydra. Do they all go against the Hydra or can some or all be allocated against the beastmasters?
Q: What happens with the excess hits, when you cast Bladewind on a unit containing only characters and/or champions and you have allocated one to each already?
Q: Can repeater crossbows, as well as other weapons with the "multiple shots" rule, fire multiple shots when making a stand & shoot reaction? The weapons section only mentions the Shooting Phase, not the Movement Phase, where this special rule can be used.
Possible Errata:
Q: Does the magic weapon Caledors Bane count as a lance? In particular, can it be used by a model on foot?
Q: Do the changes to Repeating crossbows and Dark Venom have any effect on Menghil Manhide and his manflayers?
Q: Is the Lifetaker a magic Repeating Crossbow? Does it get AP?
Q: Malekith does not have the rule "Druchii Sorcery". Is this intentional?
Q: Lokhir goes with the heavy armour in the bestiary, plus its obvious he's wearing armour, but his armor is not in the army list. It is probably safe to assume he wears the heavy armor. Right?
Questions, that are (likely) clear, but still might come up:
Q: Would a Wizard within 12" of the Ring of Hotek, but placing the Focus Familiar outside the 12" Ring of Hotek still miscast on any double?
A: Yes, the position chosen with the Focus Familiar only counts to determine range, line of sight, and whether the Sorceress is in combat or not.
Q: Can you stack the effect of Manbane and the +1 Strength from Rending Stars to gain a potential S7 shooting attack against a target with T5+?
A: Yes, Manbane modifies the Strength of the model, while Rending Stars add to it, so Manbane gets applied first.
Q: Do the monster and handlers rule allow the unit to ignore penalties for moving through terrain? (A lot of people take this for granted, but I still feel like we are trying to get an unfair advantage here by reading too much into the rule.)
A: Yes, they move as skirmishers. Skirmishers ignore the penalties for difficult terrain when moving (and can even march through it).
Q: If I give Killing Blow to my sorceress with the Cauldron, does Killing Blow and/or Hatred work on the spell Blade Wind, because it makes close combat attacks?
A: No. Killing Blow from the Cauldron is not clearly specified to work with spells (or ranged attacks for that matter), so it does not. Hatred only applies during the first turn of close combat, and therefore not during the Magic Phase. Besides, the attacks come from the spell, not from the Sorceress herself, so it's questionable in the first place, whether her own special rules for close combat attacks would even apply at all.
Q: When an Assassin is revealed, does he count as charging?
A: No, only Shadowblade, when he hides in an enemy unit and is revealed voluntarily does so.
Q: Assassins have both the Hidden and Scout rules. Whilst the spirit of this phrasing is to allow Assassins to hide within Scouting Shades, RAW interpretations have postulated that the Scout special rule allows the Assassin to be deployed as one - independant of any Dark Elf Infantry.
A: The Assassin has to use the Hidden rule, this isn't optional.
Q: Do the Beastmasters accompanying a War Hydra gain an extra attack for carrying a hand weapon in addition to a Beastmaster's Scourge (since the rules for a Beastmaster's scourge states that it counts as a hand weapon)? If so, do all three attacks benefit from the Armor Piercing rule?
A: Yes and yes. They have two hand weapons, and thus benefit from the rules for two hand weapons. A model with two handw eapons simply increases its Attack characteristic by one, the extra Attack is not restricted to either of the two hand weapons.
Q: Does the Whip of Agony grant a model on foot an extra Attack, because it is also a hand weapon?
A: No, the rules for magic weapons clearly state, that a model cannot choose to use mundane close combat weapons, if it is armed with a magic close combat weapon (unless specifically mentioned otherwise). It can, however, be combined with a shield and benefit from the hand weapon and shield rule.
Q: How does Bladewind distibute attacks against monsters and handlers. Salamanders and skinks for example. Can the casting player allocate all the attacks to the skinks?
A: They are no shooting hits, so they are not distributed randomly. You simply choose what to attack, unless the specific unit's rules somehow limit that.
Q: When buying Tullaris or Kouran do you first have to pay the base cost of an Executioner/Black Guard and then the character's cost, similar to how you would buy a champion?
A: Yes. Equivalent to the Daemon FAQ.
Other Questions:
(not yet sorted into the other categories; where do these belong to?)
Q: Are handlers also ignored for the purpose of maximizing models in combat? Ie. a hydra is charged by 5 models on 25 mm bases, do you maximize against the hydra first and then move up handlers or move up handlers and then maximize models when charging in?

This concerns mainly discrepancies between the Engliish AB and the German "translation":
I already asked in another Thread, if somebody could PM me the original wording for these items in the English AB.
If there really are any differences, I could inquire with some guys from the German studio I know and ask for clarification, possibly an errata in German WD.
So far, nobody has PMed me the descriptions yet, so I'd like to ask all of you guys in possession of the English AB again to do me the favour!
Having those issues cleared up would prevent serious rules discussions at German tournaments. Thanks in advance!
- Ring of Hotek: Does it also affect the caster, if a spell is cast from outside its area of effect into the 12" radius around the ring bearer (like it is supposedly stated in the English AB)? Or does it only work, if the caster himself is within the 12" around the bearer (as it reads as such in the German AB)?
Crimson Death: Does it really grant ASF to the bearer (it does so, referring to the German translation)?

Added "Dark Venom" into the Menghil Question in the OP, and corrected some spelling/naming issues in another post above.

In the interests of culling non-essential questions from any Q&A to help speed up the release from GW I'd just like to take a moment to quote the rulebook on this one - read into this what you will:
p.67; BRB:
"Monsters & Handlers
Some rare units are made up of a monster that is goaded into battle by a small group of handlers or beastmasters.
These units normally move as skirmishers."
p.65; BRB:
"Moving
Obstacles & Difficult Terrain
Skirmishers move around obstacles or over rough ground more easily than troops in formation. They suffer no movement penalties for crossing obstacles or for moving over difficult or very difficult ground and can even march through such terrain."
RAW and Spirit both agree with what people have interperated thus far.
As for my question for any Q&A:
Q. Assassins have both the Hidden and Scout rules. Whilst the spirit of this phrasing is to allow Assassins to hide within Scouting Shades, RAW interpretations have postulated that the Scout special rule allows the Assassin to be deployed as one - independant of any Dark Elf Infantry.
(RAW rules, p.96; BRB: "Scouts are set up after both armies have been deployed. They can be set up anywhere on the table...")
Edit:
Q. Are Null Talismans unique? The rules specify that a single model may purchase multiple Talismans but does not explicitly state whether multiple models can purchase them (violating the one of each item per army rule).

assasin
When the assasin is revealed does he count as charging?
Since ASF will cancel each other out according to the HE FAQ, it would mean that an assasin in a unit charged by ex. highelf spearmen would strike after the spearmen because charging means you strike first no matter what weapons or Initiative, so having the assasin count as charging would make a world of difference!

The HE FAQ was altered after its initial release. Now when two units possess the ASF rule, combat is worked out in strict Initiative order, regardless of other modifiers (such as charging and great weapons) as these rules were nullified by the ASF rule.
Explained in detail in the re-written HE FAQ.

Do area of effect spells such as Wind of Undeath, Black Horror or the Burning Head miscast on a double if they affect any model within 12" of the Ring of Hotek?
If Power of Darkness dice are lost as a result of a miscast, but not used to cast a spell, do they inflict S4 hits?
Can an unrevealed Assassin use his Cloak of Twilight to teleport another character without revealing himself?
If a model carrying the Pendant of Khaeleth hits and wounds a model with the Black Amulet, and the 4+ ward is passed, does the rebounded wound count as being at the strength of the character with the Pendant, or simply as not having a strength value (thus making the pendant ineffective in such a case)
Does a unit suffering casualties from multiple Noxious Breath attacks have to make multiple Ld checks to charge?

That's a good one.
Havn't even noticed, that the cloak can be used on other models... it's certainly not intended to do that (but only affect the model wearing the cloak; but it doesn't say that).

more questions
I found a few more I have doubts about...
"The Guiding eye" seems to have a typo, it does not say for that turn only, but being a one use only it makes no sense that it should be for the entire battle.
It could have been cut by mistake since it is at the bottom of the page.
Does double 6's also count as miscast for "Ring of Hotek" and how does it work against a HE mage with "book of Hoeth"? and can the miscast be cancelled out with the HE "staff of Solidity"?
As you may have guessed my main enemy is HE...
I would also like to add that I dont think rending stars work with manbane, it can only be used on non-magic weapons and clearly applies to the weapon only, it is not the character who gets higher strength but his weapon

The Double 6/Miscast is covered in the BRB under IR and Miscasts. Miscasts always take precedence over IR which means a Double 6 is still treated as a miscast when near the Ring of Hotek as it no longer has the exception listed in the items rules (like it did in 6th).
Edit: Also the Staff of Solidarity makes the Mage immune to the effects of his first miscast - not immune to the miscast. The spell fails as normal.

The questions about Null Talisman's have been answered before and addressed by the rules in other contexts -- MR does not stack. You take the highest one applicable.

I'd suggest that this 'unresolved' question:
Has a far more obvious answer (MR on different characters does not stack) than this question which is apparently definitely answered:
Q: When a character bearing a single Null Talisman joins a unit of Black Guard with a Tower Master who also has a single Null Talisman, does the unit have MR1 or MR2 then?
Has a far more obvious answer (MR on different characters does not stack) than this question which is apparently definitely answered:
Q: Would a Wizard within 12" of the Ring of Hotek, but placing the Focus Familiar outside the 12" Ring of Hotek still miscast on any double?
A: Yes, the position chosen with the Focus Familiar only counts to determine range, line of sight, and whether the Sorceress is in combat or not.
