The rule states that, "Lokhir gains additional attacks equal to the number of enemy ranks in the unit he is attacking."

It doesn't say you gain attacks based on the Rank bonus which usually maxes at 3.

What if I'm fighting a Zombie horde of 80 troops that 5 wide and 16 deep?

Do I get +3 attacks or +16 attacks?!

+16, you pretty much answered your own question with that second sentence.

and it would gained 80 attacks if he makes a congo line of 80 zombies because it's for each ranks and not each rank bonus and since a rank doesn't have a minimum, a 1 per 80 deep = +80 attacks for squidface.

Follow up question. Assume there is a Wight King (I know no character can lead them) in the unit and he challenges Lokhir.

In the challenge will he get the +16 attacks as well?

i should think so, he is still fighting that unit

Ye she will. There is absolutely no rule groundwork for removing models in challenges from the combat to go at it next to the combat. It just looks WAY cooler.

isn't there a limit of max 10 to any stat though? (which would mean 10 attacks instead of 16 in the example given)

or maybe I just misread something somewhere...

very good point actually, i had forgotten that. Im not sure if it applies to attacks but i should think it does. The rulebook does technically state no stat can exceed 10, so i guess that is Lokhirs limit too.

@Soulreaper, and that was +16 attacks, he already has 3, so it would have been 19. I guess he can only have 10 attacks total, meaning a +7 attack bonus maximum.

correct?

+16 attacks or 19 attacks is NOT a character stat.
It is just the number of die he will roll
the 19 attacks are valid and no RAW player can contest that.

These attacks doesn't add to his attack characteristic, as they would then have been swapped with Van Horstmann's and they don't. Afaik there's no limit to the number of attacks a model can have, but his attack characteristic can't go beyond 10.

I stand corrected then, i wasnt really sure it went either way to be honest, but thanks for clearing that up. That means Lokhir is great after all, i will be using him in my corsair list - i just hope i get to go hunting horde armies now.

Actually Lokhir has the new record for maximum theoretical number of attacks by a single model! The previous recordholder was a Chaos Lord of Khorne, mounted on a monster on 50mm base, fighting 8 Great Unclean Ones with the Berserker Sword. He could attack with (unless the calculations are wrong) a massive 46 attacks (not counting the mount), though only in a game where the opponent could actually field 8 Great Unclean Ones. Lokhir can fight a congaline of 107 models (in a diagonal row over the table), joined by a corsairs standard bearer with Sea Serpent Standard, and would get 111 attacks and so beat the old record by far. And that in a "regular" game. New DEs are impressive!! ;)

actually the most theoretical attacks belongs to Khazarak One Eye, due to the fact that when his whip hits the only thing that limits his attacks is weather or not you can keep wounding with it, giving him a possible infinite amount of attacks, Lokhirs attacks are limited due to the fact that the unit must have an end
