Pegmasters are flying cavalry?

Post by marcopollo »

Hi guys,

I have been going over my rules recently when I came upon this question: Are pegmasters considered "flying cavalry".

Let us first discern what flying cavalry is. According to the BRB pg 70, we have the definition of flying cavalry.

Flying Cavarly
" Some units, such as the noble Bretonian Pegasus Knights have the flying Cavalry special rule -- a particularly effective type of flying unit. In Rules terms, flying cavalry are treated as Fast Cavalry with he Fly special rule. See pg 68 ... "

At first glance, we know that pegmasters are classified as monsterous cavalry (MC) with the flyer rule. That is indeed how Army Builder classifies them.

But, after checking how Army builder classifies Bretonian Pegasus knights, they are classified in the exact same way. They have MC with the flyer rule attached. So too is the Bretonian Paladin on his royal pegasus.

So, are pegmasters indeed "flying cavarly"?

From memory the Dark Pegasus is classified as a Monstrous Beast with the Fly special rule.

So unfortunately not!

Bretonnian peg knights have a special rule "Flying Cavalry".
It has nothing to do with troop type.

Is that actually in the army book? Army builder doesn't make this disrinction.

I know army builder isn't perfect, but I find it strange that they don't have this.

Never trust army builder.

A lord / master on a dark pegasus is a monstrous cavalry entity with the special rule "fly", bestowed by the mount. Such a guy does not, as others have stated, get to vanguard, because nowhere does he get a fast cavalry nor vanguard special rule.

A bretonnia pegasus knight is a regular knight mounted upon a regular pegasus. They have the special rules listed underneath them: The knights vow, and Flying Cavalry, which explicitly gives them the fast cavalry + fly combination rule. I do not know whether bretonnia pegasus knights are also monstrous cavalry <-- anyone got some wisdom? Logic dictates they are, and get stomps, but they dont merge statlines (infact a pegasus has no T and W values...)

A bretonnia pegasus noble is a noble mounted on a royal pegasus, which is a monstrous beast in line with our dark pegasus. This one does NOT have the flying cavalry special rule. It merely has the "fly" special rule.
