Special characters for our neglected units

Post by Red... »

Another thread got me thinking about how some units in our book have special characters, others don't. It struck me that it would be kind of fun if they all did.

Here's the breakdown:
- Cold One Knights: Malus Darklade
- Blackguard: Kouran Darkhand
- Executioners: Tullaris Dreadbringer
- Witch Elves: Crone Hellebron
- Corsairs: Lokhir Fellheart
- Assassins: Shadowblade
- Sorceresses (and Dark Pegasi?): Morathi
- Non-specific: Malekith

That leaves the following unit types without:
- Shades
- Darkshards
- Bleakswords
- Dreadspears
- Dark Riders
- Cold One Chariots
- Harpies
- Sisters of Slaughter
- Big monsters
- Medusas and Bloodwrack Shrines
- Reapers
- Scourgerunner Chariots

I don't think all of them would need named special characters, but it seems like there was/is potential there for a few more, maybe one each for Sisters, Harpies, Dark Elf Warriors (spears, swords, and RxBs), Cold One Chariots, and Big Monsters. Some of them would be entirely new, but some could just be renewals of old characters long since ditched (e.g. Beastmaster Rakarth, who I think used to be a character in his own right, although I could be wrong on that front).

Which units would others like to see have special characters, if it was possible to have more?

Sisters are charismatic and elite enough to warrant a special special character

...preferrably one good at getting through armour

Would be cool to have a revamp of the manflayers, or a Sister special character some super bad ass gladiator chick.

or a warlock character although with that I see it being hard to make one that wasn't broken.

I would like to have additional special characters:

Shades - big come back for Mengil :!: I would be so happy to see him again
Dark Riders - with lifetaker and giving some additional bonus for DR (extra shooting before game... etc.) or
Warlocks - giving +1MR and ap, poison on 5+ and/or additional spell
Rakarth - changing composition of army, chariots, COK - core, all monsters special, RTB rare, bound spell from beast lore
So GooD To Be EviL!!

Rakarth missing from the roster (especially with beastmaster character as a lord choice) was deeply disappointing to me.

I can definitely see a Sister of Slaughter SC though, something akin to Lelith Hesperax from Dark Eldar.

How about this for a Sisters of Battle special character?

Teresa, Mother of Slaughter: 170 points (Hero)
M5 / WS7 / BS6 / S4 / T3 / I7 / W2 / A4

Equipment
- Whip of Agony: Always S5 with armour piercing, gives +1 attack (This can benefit from The Trial of Blades as normal).
- Hand Net of Delusion: Enemies attempting to attack the Mother of Slaughter in close combat must first pass an initiative test, if they fail then their attacks get tangled by the net and they suffer -1 to their to-hit and to-wound rolls.
- Bloodied Laurel Wreath: Magic Resistance 2.

Special rules
Gladiatorial Sprint: Once per game, at the start of your turn, Teresa and her unit can add +2 to their movement for the remainder of the turn. Once this ability has been used, it cannot be used again for the remainder of the game.
Whirlwind of Death: Same as Dance of Death, but if the nominated enemy unit has 3 ranks or less, they do not benefit from steadfast. Units with more than 3 ranks benefit from steadfast as normal.
Fear.
The Trial of Blades
Always Strikes First
Hatred (High Elves)
Murderess Prowess

Cold One Chariots do have Malekith. He once was the only possibility to get one!

My vision of a SoS special champion is pretty similar. I even have created a conversion that I could use as such a character...
