Silly RBT question

Post by Paul nettle »

Greetings Druchii.net members

I apologise if this seems a silly question.

According to page 111 of the rule book "To fire a bolt thrower, select a target according to the normal rules of shooting."

On page 39 the 'normal rules for shooting' say "A model can shoot at an unengaged enemy unit that its at least partially with its forward arc".

However, page 109 says "before you fire the war machine, pivot it to face your chosen target".

So I assume my Reaper Bolt Throwers have 360 degree arc of fire?

Thanks in advance of any replies!

Yes, they may pivot freely, and then fire at anyone within their front arc.

No harm in asking, not a silly question. With this game, even the "basic" stuff can be screwy sometimes.

Thanks Direweasel

I guess you mean 'they may pivot freely, and then fire at anyone within a 360 degree arc' (ie to their side or rear, not just their front).

How I miss 7th Edition, where tactics were important!

Well, tactics are still important, but that's different tactics.
Nowadays, Druchii tactics mean winning the chaff war in order to control both movement's phase, in order to fight the appropriate match-ups.
Only point-and-click army need no tactics.

No, otherwise there's no point in pivoting. But honestly, since the pivot is free, I'm not sure it really matters if you physically choose to pivot or not. Only a massive Captain Douchebag of Douchebag Mountain would be a stickler on that kind of thing.

Can I ask a follow up silly question?

When firing 6 Bolts, does the enemy get an armour save?

It says they're AP which leads me to believe they do get a save throw. But the BRB says AS's are not permitted against wounds caused by BT's.

Did I just miss something? Thanks.

Yes, when firing single bolt you follow the normal BT rules, when firing multiple shots you follow special rules described in the army book.

which would be S4 AP, which reduces your enemies AS by 2 (so a 1+ becomes 3+ and 5+ dont get a save at all)
