Warmaster?

Post by Vogon »

Greetings all

One of my friends and I are thinking about having a go at Warmaster. What is it like? Obviously I'll be getting a Druchii army but do you have any thought on what to get?

I intend to start with 1000points and thought

General on Manticore
Hero Blister
2x Spearelves / corsairs
1x Repeater Crossbows
2x Dark Riders
1x Witchelves
1X Reaper Bolt Thrower

He'll be going for Dwarves

Thanks for any advice

I have not played the Dark Elves in Warmaster, but I have played the game with my Empire Army.

The main thing to know about Warmaster is that it is really a cavalry-dominated game, more so even that Warhammer Fantasy. You should try to get some cold one knights. Also, just looking at the special rules for them, Dark Riders look like they would kick butt in Warmaster. The double shots look like they would be awesome.

Only if you play on open fields like many seem to. I honestly think that is where the cavalry whining comes from. Obviously on open ground cavalry will dominate.

Play a game with alot of terrain and things change dramatically...

I'm also under the impression that people don't know how to brigade their infantry properly (and deeply enough) to meet cavalry charges effectively.

Ah, another recruit to the fine game of Warmaster. Check this thread out:

Also, check this site out. Its a new site dedicated to Warmaster.

Now, to your army:

It looks pretty good for 1K.

One rule of thumb is not to mount your general on the big nasties. Since you lose automatically if your general dies, you want to keep him safe. Give the Manticore to a hero instead, as it can really help swing combats.

Dark Riders are awesome and I highly recommend them. You should have at least one unit of COK as well. The Witch Elves are an excellent unit to guard flanks with and keep your formations intact since they cannot be pushed back by shooting, but they are a bit expensive and fragile, so be careful with them.

Also remember that the Bolt Throwers hit on 3+ :)

Thanks for the link.

My list was basically chosen by the begginers maxim of one of everything :)

I got a manticore at Games day as I had a bit of budget left over and fancied the challenge of painting a warmaster scale miniature.

Dark riders look like they're even more of a must for warmaster than WFB so I'll probably get a couple of units.

In the first instance we're going to be using card and counters to represent the units but we'll be buying the models sooner or later.

Thanks again
