I think this is a perfect example of what I think the Hydra is best used for: A large missle magnet.

People just love to shoot at these things with everything they have (probably because they don't realize how unimpressive they are in combat)

Nice idea though. I like it.

Heh, in my group, no one likes to shoot at my hydras. :( Heh, just leaves them more wounds to hit with!

I've found that Hydras are fairly effective against Lizardmen, myself-haven't used Exes yet against them...
Well, time WOULD be nice...
And, Storm of Chaos is here. Are you ready?

Well done! It is great when a plan comes together. I agree with Grog though, the hydra is a little unimpressive in combat so as I have said elsewhere, always support it and it will work for you.

As you found out. Once again well done. The Druchii rock!!!

I've found one of the best combos is to stick an Assassin in the EXEC unit as well. Sure it's a lot of points, but it'll kill more then it's worth, even if it is a little off topic.

i think it's great of your enemy shoots everything at the executioners... they're only 11 points, way less than my cold one knights! ;)

You good place them behind a unit of Shades. It works the same as the War Hydra, except they are harder to shoot, and can get out of the way faster, and can flank charge pretty easily with them...

Shades are easily a better unit to use, provided your enemy cannot see over them (Hydra being a large target it depends on how high you are). They also provide a better screen since the hydra model is not that wide and the edges of the Ex unit can be seen, and therefore shot. 5 shades can create a screen almost 10" wide.

But the shades arent very tough and tend to die very esely when their are targeted by magic missils.

True, but so are beasmaster apprentices who are hit on 5+ and there are less of them than shades. If they die, chances are you lose the hydra in some way.

why not try this tactic..which i use for my unit of 18 witch elves and 18 berog bearstruck and the bearmen of urslo

2 units of 12-15 crossbow elves...8 in the front and then flush the rest out in the back... unit of 28 spear elves in the middle and the 2 units of witch elves behind the units of archers...BSB in spearmen unit and if points permit another noble to have LD 9

works well for me but i only have 1 person who is a heavy army which is chaos..and i have trouble with them sometimes...but just a thought

thank you

Why is that? Almost every army is the same, high elves, Dark Elves, Empire... we all have troops that are vulnerable to shooting. It's part of the fun of the game, using tactics.
