I find 2 15 sized Corsair units and 1 20 sized Spearmen unit very usefull. The Spearmen always serches to get or to charge calvalery units. Then one of the Corsairs units or som other offensive unit in small numbers flank the basterds like executioners.
I'm net reatreting... Just.... Advancing in the other direction!

I use 2 units of 20 Spearmen backed up by 2 units of 12 crossbowmen. So far, the strategy has not failed me yet. I have Corsairs and field them regularly, but, I have a soft spot for the spearmen. Just my 2 cents.

Bottom Line:

Defensive Army = Spearmen
Offensive Army = Corsairs

Since you are planning on a more offensive list, I would go with the Corsairs.

Offensive Army = Corsairs
Themed Army = Spearmen

;)

As has been stated before Corsairs are the better troop on a cost analysis basis.

Having said that I own 80 warriors and intend at least half to be spear armed. I am a firm believer in themed armies and the main idea for my army is a Northern Watchtower garrison force. Clearly based around Warriors and Dark Riders.

You should always go with what feels better to you. Try both types and you will have an inate preference for one. That is the choice that fits into your style of play better then the other. Style of play is vital. It determines how you conceptulise the game and is what helps you outhink your opponent.

Well said Walkerd. I too have a themed force that uses Warriors and Dark Riders. As Corsairs don't fit my theme, I dont use them. And you know what? I don't miss them because I don't use them. Just my 2 cents.
Fetch me another plaything. This one seems to have broken.

I use both Corsairs and Spearmen. I use the Spearmen to hold the middle of my line against cavalry and the Corsairs to attack.

Had luck with both, but corsairs kick against elves that shoot. Like spears, tho but never go shieldless. They take charges well against S3 T3 troops and can usually win on the next turn. ie: goblins, orcs, humans etc. Hate them against dwarves, however better to use them than corsairs to a charge of course in any situation. Remember support is vital to winning with DE against T4+ dudes.
