You can add one more to the ranks of the shield disbelievers...

Gang, let's all calm down a bit here- We're all justifiably excited to finally have some physical proof that we're getting a new book and some new models, but there are some assumptions and speculations in this thread that appear to have absolutely no basis in fact (no, I'm not talking about shields for Corsairs, either).

Let's all take a deep breath and wait for some reliable confirmations from well-regarded sources before we go off half-cocked. They ought to be coming thick and fast now with the ice broken and the release apparently only 3 months away...!

The Corsairs are stunning figs, and I will be happily basing the Core of my force around them without doubt in a few months. Can't wait to see any extra things on the sprue not shown here. By which I'm refering to the silly things they gave the Empire and Brets, if we don't have a drake pet or something on those lines I'll be dissapointed, well ish.

As to the Dreadlord, Hmmm, I've looked at it for a while and all that comes to mind is.. okay who let the Empire Warrior Priest disguised 'poorly' as a Dark Elf into the army. !razz!

But, aye, Corsairs are excellent. :)

Iv'e waited nearly two years since i first heard about their re-release for this. This made my day. Dreadlord, not quite so much.

We all know thw Whitedwarf team knows nothing, i mean how often do they get rules incorrect in battle reports? Still, one can hope.

I was in GW last week. He could confess that corsairs will be released in pack of ten, like skeletons for VC. At the price of 12p.

I personally don't beleive it, I'm not even sure whether i wont to or not, sure it would be greta be it just doesnt feel that corsair to me, shields are for warriors not corsairs.

Make it a rule of thumb just to go in the opposite direction of whitedwarf, unless theres a pic.

Hm....I like the old corsairs better. Not that the new ones look bad...just...older looking than the current corsairs.

And the shields are a turn-off...imagine...what if all the pirates in Pirates of the Caribbean ran around their ships with shields?

The new dreadlord lacks that air of druchii nobility I associate with nobles. A bit to wild looking for me.

It's evident they've tried to go for a sort of Cold One Knight on foot sort o look for the Dreadlord, but he kinda lacks the curve-to-sharp-point look that the COK's have. As has been noted, he's all slight curves, kinda square looking, like a Warrior priest, or a Chaos Warrior.

I'll sign up for the I Hardly Think Corsairs Will Have Shields Club Band. Even if they did, I doubt I'd put them on these Corsairs, which is not to say I wouldn't have a use for them, just... not on the Corsairs.

As far as the collars on the corsairs go, it seems to me that they are merely an extension of the SDC (excluding the pic of the corsair w/ 2 handweapons). The current corsairs have collars on their SDC's as well even though they aren't as prominent. If I'm right then it could add some great collar and personality to the model.

At first I was dissapointed with the corsair's as they seemed to just have...too much going on, but I think that if you eliminate some things, maybe clip off some excess spikes or choose a majority of heads without too much helmet, then they'll look quite good. And as always, things look much better in person.

As for the Dreadlord, im quite content. Firstly, GW decided to give us a character choice model, so we shouldn't complain too much as they've finally answered one of our oldest prayers.

And even more importantly, the model they showed us is one of many configurations out of a multi bitz package. If you don't like a particular piece about it then just swap the bit. Don't like the head? Even if you don't like one of the substitutes it comes with, a simple swap from a CoK would be no difficult conversion task as both have the same collar plate thing and so the heads should fit just about right.

That Dreadlord model with a CoK helm would look pretty swell in my mind.

Edit: Has anyone also noticed that the models are labeled as Black Ark corsairs? Perhaps they are a seperate unit entirely from the standard corsairs we have today?

good point! at least we've got a guy in dark elf heavy armour strolling around, if we want to do head swaps and what not it'll be easier than sculpting dark elf plates onto woodelves (but a hearty well done to those who have done so)

who thinks that corsairs will have a promo kind of option, like inner circle knights or something

Ik think the Lord is smacked on the head, he needs at least a head that shows his whole face. He has no neck now. That is the main problem with this one.

I really like the new models for the corsairs, but does no one else think that that much armour would be a hindrance on a pirate? I would imagine corsair boxes will be £12 for ten models. Nearly every one will want a unit of them, even if its just for their new rule that lets them chase enemies down more easily once they break. Not too keen on the Dread Lord though. Oh and no promotion option on the corsairs, but that would have been cool.

RE: Heavily armored corsairs make poor pirates

I somewhat disagree. Yes, a heavily armored fellow that falls in the water is dead. That said, anybody who's falling off his/her boat while fighting isn't doing their job right.

Plus, don't forget we're talking about elves, here. Not only is their armor probably a lot lighter/better designed than that of the lesser races, they have the natural grace and finesse to wear it without slowing down.

As for the feasibility of shields, so long as they aren't so large as to hinder the use of your off-hand or get caught on rigging they'd be as much of an advantage as having a knife. Something like a buckler or target would work just fine for your average pirate, not to mention your super elf pirate corsair.

To add to the above:

Obviously armour would drown a man fallen overboard, but also remember these are Black Ark corsiars, and you are highly unlikely to go overboard on an Ark. In their case they probably operate more as marines making seaborne landings then a traditional pirate.

If nothing else, the weak deserver to die and only a weak corsair would end up over the edge. ;)

Rork.. I totally agree with you. Some of them look like hey are a mix of older editions and slaanshi models. I can't say I really see most models as an improvement, but certainly I need to get used to it.

I'm liking those new corsairs. The dreadlord model is crap tho, I'm glad I've managed to convert my own character models, cause that model was just a big dissapointment.

Well from that picture all I can really say at this point is..."Baby got back!" ;)

Edit: And what are the other units in the shot? From left to right I think I spot the new corsairs, Execs, Hydra, Spearelves, and then....DOW? Can't tell.
