Any thoughts on taking a unit of 10 warriors without shields as a unit for the sorceress to use the dagger with? It's only 60 points in a 2250 game and could prove to be really beneficial.

Also, is the item available to all level casters or just the lord choice?

Sure!
If the opponent has little shooting, that's OK. You could even mount the sorc on a DS and jump from this unit to a similar one in vicinity, in case it was threaten.
Against heavy shooting, I would add a shield, or consider to take corsairs instead. Another option is to hide the cheap unit behind a house and use the "familiar" to cast spells from.

No reason why the dagger would be limited to Lord choice. But I expect to have only 1 available for the army, so it makes sense to provide it to the most important spell caster.

Available to all casters. Ill be running a unit of 20 with champ+muso (no shields) modelled as as actual slaves, with druchii task masters whipping them :P Why would I kill off real dark elves?!??!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the dagger and familiar both arcanes.

That would pretty much shoot down Calissons tactic.

If I'm wrong though, then it's an awesome tactic.

You're right:
both are arcane. :?
We really need to have the book in hand before any sound tactics can be thought about.

For instance does the sorceress have to be in base contact with the 'slaves'? As this would really restrict her amount of movement and hiding ina largish unit of unarmed warriors doesn't sound very safe if anything comes nearby.

Its hardly difficult if you control the movement phase.

Four units of harpies is 220 points. Which at the very least denies your opponent 400 points in table quarters. Why wouldn't you take them????

Because then you wont have room for any of the other fun special choices.

Harpies will still be on 20mm bases, yes? I have a bunch of ye olde hapieth on 25mm bases which are currently undergoing some downscaling. It would be awful if GW decided to beef them up again...

No new models for harpies means no change to bases, so you're safe downgrading 5th edition ugliness to 20x20 scale ;)

I'm thinking of taking 2 unit of 10 warriors as missile screens. They're only 5pts more than the 5 Harpy unit and I don't feel like buying more Harpies. Plus with BG being ItP now, they'll be great for screening either BG or Witches.
