Doomfire Warlocks Spell Card

Post by Ragian Cain »

I knocked up a card with both of the Doomfire Warlocks spells on for ease of use during gaming.

If its not against the rules I'll post a link for downloading?

Hey Ragian. I would prefer if you'd offer a link instead of attaching the source. The card looks great, and the work is appreciated, but it is a copy of a product G.W. offers: a card for each spell exists and is sold by G.W.. I fear that may make this a copyright conflict.

I'd expect the Lore Attribute for Soulblight to be:
Lore Attribute: no effect.

Yah, but there's nothing that says they do either.

Warlocks do not have the Dark Lore, nor do they have Lore of Death. They have no lore, they just know two spells. The BRB is vague about whether or not attributes apply to casters who choose a Lore or spells taken from that Lore. Either they would get the attribute of Death for Soulblight and Dark for Doombolt, or they would not get either, I'm not sure which. But I am sure that it makes no sense that they would get one and not the other.

So if a model had a spell from the lore of metal, the lore attribute wouldn't apply??

My BRB states (p491) that Lore attributes are "special rules that are applied to certain spells for that lore." This implies that the Lore attribute is tied to the spell on the basis that it is a spell in that Lore, not to any attribute of the caster (other than the fact that they know that spell). As a starting point, a Lore attribute will apply to a spell from that Lore unless it does not meet any trigger requirements for the Lore attribute. For the Lores of Death and Dark Magic, the Lore attributes have an effect when certain conditions are met, rather than for all spells (as is the case for Lore of Life and potentially for Lore of Beasts).

The spell Doombolt is from the Lore of Dark Magic and is a direct damage, magic missile or hex spell. The Spiteful Conjuration Lore attribute triggers for these types of spell.

The only reason why the Warlocks would not get the Lore attribute for the Lore of Death is because Soulblight does not cause wounds, and thus, does not trigger the Lore attribute (Life Leeching). It's not that the spell isn't subject to the Lore attribute for the Lore of Death, only that the Lore attribute cannot have any effect for a spell which does not cause wounds.
