The Bretonnian Pegasus aren't lame...they're MAJESTIC *flapflapflap*
Re: whats the most common thing to use for a pegasus for DE
The 'lame looking' bretonnia one works fine for me.
Provided you remove the crosses...and a horn... maybe change the wings if you feel like it.
Ofcourse you will have to use dark sinister colours to make it resemble something...
oh..and bright red eyes ofcourse.

Interesting choice. Fairly large for a peg but could look cool. Please share some photos.

The plastic Bret pegasus models actually work well ... with modification.
1) Use a rotary tool or craft knife to remove all the Bretonnian-style details. Specifically, the shields and Fleur de Lys. You can make dangly runes to replace them out of green stuff or take some off a cold one.
2) Make some blades from plastic sword or spear tips and attach them to the head and hoof armor to make the model generally more spiky.
3) If you have them, use the wings from Morathi's pegasus instead of the eagle-style wings.

I used Archaon's horse with Vargheist wings but I've also seen the extra horses from the chariot kit used. I am currently toying with the idea of using this model:

and some folded wings to make a second one.

I used a reaper unicorn and attached reaper eldritch demon wings. Turned out fairly decent despite my painting.

Hey there bud, we've clearly had the same idea as I've just got my hands on the Preyton I ordered to create my Dark Pegasus from; now I'm just waiting for some cold one knights now so I can create some sort of rider for it. Most likely that's going to end up as the Battle Standard Bearer, as Amboadine said though, I'd love to see some pics of yours when it's done!
My second one is likely to be made from a spare chariot horse, although I haven't decided on the wings for that yet. Vargheists seem to be a common option around the bazaars, but I can't really justify getting the models for their wings alone.
Re: whats the most common thing to use for a pegasus for DE
I currently proxy one of my mates' Bretonnian Pegasus Knights when using a Master on Pegasus, but I am likely to use the Dark Steeds from the Scourgerunner kit and use Vargheists wings. Not sure if it will look too small/thin though.

I really like the Brett Pegs
Dark Rider rabbit steeds are also not bad
Most macho of all the GW conversions IMO is the mighty Archaon Steed

Does anyone use the Morathi-Pegasus for a fighting char? (without her attached legs)
I think of buying a second one, but still have to paint and use the Morathi-model.

I've seen a few people use Marauder horses as well.

Yep, I used the Marauder horse with wings from the Dark eldar range.
Re: whats the most common thing to use for a pegasus for DE
i like the pegasus models personally and you really dont need to buy anything else to make them. for one of mine i just used a DE sheild, head, and sword and he is my favorite i have 2 of those but one has a DE body also.
Now the other ones i got creative. each Bret comes with two flying stick things so i was thinking my goblin spiders came with a base the right size and has holes in it already. So i got a cold one and some greenstuff and made a flying cold one(still want wings though i am think a smaller dragon model so it would look better on a scaley cold one.) for the legs i was completely out of DE legs and only had 2 torsos left a Sorceress and a Dreadlord. so i took skeleton legs i had left over from my TK army and green stuffed them into legs that fit. then i just add torsos heads and arms if was also my first conversion so it could look better. ill put pics when(if) i ever get around to painting it.

This was my third army my other armies are
3200 points of dwarfs
3000 of tomb kings
About 3000 of this but it will be 4000 after Christmas
And 2500 Orcs and Goblins

I have one that is just a standard Bret peg model.
For my second one, I used the Bret peg wings and a chaos maurader horse.

Re: whats the most common thing to use for a pegasus for DE
a mate did mine, using a dark steed with wings green-stuffed on from vargheist wings. looks really good, i'll try to get some pics
Re: whats the most common thing to use for a pegasus for DE
I simply won't field one as I don't want my army to look crap.
Re: whats the most common thing to use for a pegasus for DE
Just added wings to the GW dark steed master on Dark steed model. It works pretty well although I did completely replace the rider to make more dynamic. Also made a mini manticore from the white lion fig for a second peg rider. Both use the wings from Morathi's peg.
