I actually quite like this. It is flexible, while still taking the edges out of our worst power builds. Does anyone have any ideas on how to build lists given these restrictions?
It seems perfect for last years powerlevel. However this year, they go for a higher powerlevel with a less restrictive comp in general, which leads me to believe that DEs are hit a bit too hard with this draft.
It seems a bit harsh... But will also take the edge off the glaring OP builds that aired during the 2014 season.
I'd say 4 RBTs are pretty much mandatory, taking one choice out of the 5.
One thing I do note is that mounted sorcerers do not count towards the pool. In addition, there is no limit on the number of dark riders, just the number of units. Last, but not least, there is no limit on the amount of warlocks past 6, its still just 2 choices. The following build springs to mind:
Dreadlord on steed (1) Master BSB on steed (1) Lvl 4 on steed, lore of beasts, power scroll Lvl 2 on steed, lore of dark magic, dispel scroll 2x15 dark riders with crossbows and shields. Maybe stick a champ in there too for some safety. 4 RBT's (1) Up to 19 warlocks (2)
And then whatever light support might be added here.
Game plan: take everything off the board with strong magic missile presence and shooting, give absolutely no points back since your entire damned army is M9 fast cav, and if you're feeling gutsy, slam the lock-star into the enemy face first, power scrolling / IF-hoping a bubbled savage beast. Yes, not ideal to put your wizards in the front rank. But either they pump out 4 S6 ASF attacks on top of the master+dreadlords combined 13 ASF S9 attacks, or you can simply reform to only be 3 wide. Wont break anybodys steadfast, but your wizards are safe and your combatchars can assassinate enemy characters.
I can see dark elves becoming a prime point denial force. Big time. I'd be surprised if this comp stands unmodified. The 4 pegasus list is hit hard, but an all-mounted DE list is perfectly doable. Its not a 20-0 everything potential kind of army like the pegasus list, but its a list that can claim multiple, stable 14-15 point wins.
@ Thraundil: I am not convinced by your list. All the units have an extremely large footprint. They are very vulnerable to small arms shooting, magic missiles or slaanesh magic. The dark riders can be pinned down by a single chariot. Even an eagle might be enough. And two heroes are not that many. Too much depends on getting the savage beast off, it seems.
I will gladly read a report after you try it out, though.
I agree, that 4rbt are mandatory... So I started with maximising the 80-shot restriction...
10 Dark Riders shields, RxB, musican, standard 9 Shades 9 Shades 4 Repeater Bolt thrower
Seems pretry scary, and it even includes 1 fortitude unit...
Startung, balanced list could look like this: (Or drop peg from sorc and 1 DR for 4 more witches and 1 shade)
LORDS L4 Supreme sorceress (Heavens) on Dark pegasus Dispell Scroll, Cloak of Twilight, Obsidian Trinket 360 Dreadlord on Dark steed HA,SDC,Dragonhelm,Giant blade, Dawn stone 269 HEROES Master on dark Pegasus SH,SDC,Lance, Armour of destiny 184 Master on dark Pegasus - BSB Talisman of Preservation, Charmed shield, SDC, HA, LN 211 CORE 12 Witch elves standart, musican, Banner of eternal flame 162 14 Dark Riders shields, st, mus 258 10 Dark Riders shields, RxB, musican, standard 220 SPECIAL 9 Shades GW 162 9 Shades GW 162 4 Repeater Bolt thrower 280 RARE 5 Doomfire Warlocks 125
And bear in mind special characters are in. Yet this draft is the first one, and more restrictions will be designed around them. But I hope AR commitee will pursue this revolution!
