The bad side of the rules: forbidden items and magic objects

Post by Calisson »

Following a question in (Magic Items for Khaine), I came to have a new reading of ET:K2, p.20-23.

1. Rules.
These pages define what are technically three new armies. They are not to be considered either DE, HE or WE.
In particular, it states: Special rules from WH:DE, WH:HE and WH:WE are ignored.

2. Magic objects.
DE AB p.62 specifies that the magic objects in this section are available only for an army of DE.
HE AB p.63 specifies that the magic objects in this section are available only for an army of HE.
WE AB p.62 specifies that the magic objects in this section are available only for an army of WE.

None of the ET:K armies are DE, nor HE, nor WE.
Therefore, none of the ET:K armies can select any of the magic objects specific to DE, HE or WE.
RAW, only common magic objects are available.

Comment: it seems that a very common house rule is to allow DE items for DE entries, HE items for HE entries, WE items for WE entries.
However, I cannot consider that as an official rule, only a house rule.

3. Special rules.
All special rules are aleggedly ignored; however, all of them but one are just replaced by some equivalent.
Let's review them in detail.

DE:
- Murderous Prowess = Aestyrion gets Murderous p.21 - Phenix gets Martial p.22 - Eternity gets both
- Hekarti' Blessing = replaced by same
- Eternal Hatred = replaced by same

HE:
- Martial Prowess = Aestyrion gets Murderous p.21 - Phenix gets Martial p.22 - Eternity gets both
- Valor of ages = lost
- Lileath's blessing = replaced by same
- Fireborn = replaced by same
- Arrows of Isha = replaced by same

WE:
- Blessing of the Ancients = replaced by same
- WE Ambush = lost
- Forest Spirit = replaced by same
- Forest Stalker = becomes Forest Strider + Martial Prowess (+ Murderous Prowess for the Eternity)

4. Special weapons.
Here is the most dubbious RAW.
The specific armoury is part of the superseded special rules for DE and HE! However, it is not replaced.
Meanwhile, the WE AB has a specific armoury section, not listed among the special rules. Therefore, this one is not superseded.
This could lead rule lawyers to deny the use of these weapons & equipment.
However, ET:K p.20 does specify that the units must use their equipment, special rules (as modified) and options as in their army book.
That's a proof that the equipent may still be used.
