Good day all,

I will be playing my first game of 8th Edition using my Dark Elves and I will be facing a friend's new Empire army.
So, my question is, what DE units are particularly useful against Empire, in particular DemiGryffs and Steam Tanks?

I will post my provisional list a bit later but all advice will be gratefully received.

To be honest, their biggest concern to dark elves is their artillery. So to counter them you want speed and maneuverability. Shades, Dark Riders, Warlocks, and Pegasi Heroes will help you get to them fast.

Their foot soldiers are cheap so they can horde pretty well, their archery is weak, but again, cheap, so they can mass a lot of it.

If they field a steam tank, ignore it. It's way too much work to try to kill it, if you stay away from it, it will struggle to get its points back.
Demigryphs are a bit trickier. Obviously you can't avoid them, but what you can do is build a character to kill it. A lord or beastmaster on an iron skinned manticore should be able to handle one if you kit the lord out properly.

Empire strong builts are made of semichicks (strong armor, many wounds, chick has strong attacks), STank (same except once in melee, it remains stuck and doesn't do much), knights (strong armor but often rubber lances) and artillery.
Their volley gun is frightening - but has somehow limited range.
Key is to saturate their artillery with many agile threats as mentioned by Direweasel - do not send waves, they would just be annihilated one after another.
The other thing is to get high S attacks to pass the armors. Get as many RBTs as possible. Magic is your friend as well.
Once in melee, kill their characters first, they are not that much a threat but do buff efficiently their troops.

I had totally forgotten about Lore of Metal and had been going to take Life on my Level 4.
I was planning on taking 4 RBTs.
