I think about using monsters and corsairs to crush one flank and rest of the army to harrass the other.

Firstly I don't own another hydra
Secondly I need some missile support
Thirdly I don't have 20 free points... (only 6) I could drop one Harpy but I'm still 1 point short

I consider defensive dwarves boring... try fighting this:
Runelord on Anvil
Thane
15 warriors
around 30 thunderers
4 Bolt throwers
Cannon
stone thrower
2 organ guns
(machines with runes of course)

and not get bored after 3rd loss...

If you think defensive dwarves are boring wait until you meet "shooty" empire. Makes dwarves look like they don't know how to use black powder. The hellblaster is best magic item in the game.

Anyhow, I like your list. Some places/people frown on Dragons in games under 2500 points but if your group doesn't then go for it. Especially based on that dwarf army as that's maximizing blackpowder which is cheesy IMO. You could put the highborn on a Manticore and save some points if you find the Dragon to be over the top.

Besides any shooty army is going to go gunning for that dragon asap anyway. You're going to get really good at learning when and how to use it if you stick with it. Sometimes you'll want to get into hth asap, other times you'll realize you can hang back and wait for the right moment.

Well... I don't play shooty empire too often (mostly shooty dwarves and HE) but I know what's the list around here:
4 mages
4 cannons
hellblaster
steam tank
loads of hangunners and sometimes unit of huntsmen
(all mages use life and haeven lores)

And playing against them is more fun that dwarves (they fail terror tests more often and their cannons blow up regulary)
