2250 - two Lists, Min Magic vs No Magic

Hello Everyone,
I have two lists that I am looking for feedback on. Basic difference and point of focus for me is dropping the scroll caddy magic defense in favor of a Cauldron of Blood. Is this a good or bad idea? A major question I have is, is the RoH sufficient magic defense on its own?

The BSB with Nagarynthe runs in my unit of Spears, the assassin sometimes goes in the spears or shades depends on what the opponent has. I was thinking of running the DL on steed with my BG (hence the dropping to 12 BG in the 2nd list)

One note is sometimes I run the Assassin with Star/Manabane combo
