need some ideas

Post by Bpack91 »

I have a 2250 tournament comming up in October and not sure what list to bring last time I played a 2200 tournament I played monster mash for the fun of it so this year I'm looking to play a competitive list. Any ideas?

Cavalry, lots of cavalry. Fast moving, characters on cavalry, pick your battles and always get the charge.
Sometimes I get this urge to conquer large parts of the Old World...

Is the tournament held under the 8ed rules no matter what? If not, all the more reason to go full on fast cavalry. Other units might shift in their value depending on how their rules will be reworked but you should always be able to run in circles, charge the enemies you can break immediatelly and shoot and magic the rest. So something like:

dreadlord, BSB, additional hero on dark steed
sorceress or preferably two on dark steed
30 dark riders, some in big units, some in small ones
2x 10 warlocks
maybe some harpies
maybe a kharibdyss if you already have one but I would not buy one until the rules are set

It is 8th ed no matter what! I tryed a fast caves list last night and I got tabled by woc but I failed 9 fear checks so I blame that mostly on dice rolls

For S's & G's I just put together a 2250 list that has 43 mounts. 20 DR's, 10 DW's, 10 CoK's, Co Dread Lord, SS on a DS, and PegMaster. Also has 10 RxB to fill core, and 25 Executives complete with a full Board of Directors.

Fun thing is I've got the models for this. I'm gonna do it next time I play.

Here it is if you're interested:

-------------------------------

Dreadlord: CO, Heavy, SDC, Giant blade, Dawnstone, charmed shield
SS L4: Talisman of Preservation (could go with a MR item instead like RoH, or an amulet if you're gonna drop her in the Warlocks)
CoT Pegmaster full mundane, lance, BSB.

10 RxB: Shields, musician
10 DR: SH/RxB, Full CMD
2 x 5 DR:: SH/RxB

10 CoK: Full CMD
25 Exec: Full CMD

2 x 5 DW

-------------------------------

You'd have to wiggle some things around if you want banners and such but, yeah. Fast.

No BSB? Even with Ld10 I'd be squirming in my boots for panic and break tests.

I did say 'and such' :P

Really though, that peg master is the BSB, had the points included, just forgot to spell it out. You may want a dispel scroll in there too.

For Northstar I'm thinking of using the following:

Dreadlord on Steed, 1+ rerollable, giant blade, OTS
SS lvl4 Metal on Steed, ring, scroll

BSB Peg Master, Charmed shield, 4++
Cloak Master

10x Dark Riders FC, Shields/xbows
5x Dark Riders, Mus, shields/xbows
10x2 Dark shards, Banner/Mus

Reapers x3
Shades x6, GWs

10x Doomfires, Champ

Pretty standard affair if you want to go heavy on the fast cav filth. I should find room to squeeze in the flaming banner on the dark shards though, for all of the Throgg chaos lists that will be there...

I assumed so, but wasn't sure :o

Never liked running the Cloak master as my BSB, I was always too cautious with him running around, when he should be in the danger zone almost always.

When I'm working with a lot of cav, I'm rarely in a position to cover the range they take up anyway. Normally I do one or two sure-thing targets (war machines, chaff) arcing toward where I expect the main combat. My infantry and heavy hitters usually converge on him at the same time. The only time I run into trouble with this, is early on. My BSB could be out of position for one turn, and if I need to employ a lot of double flees, I could run in trouble. They'll usually have a 10 to roll on though.
