9th Age - Attempt on a "default" 2500 list

Post by Loppamannen »

Hi all,

We have started running games following the 9th Age ruleset now. I have tried a few matches to create my own list, but have failed both times. And I do believe its a bit of bad luck and bad tactics, so I don't want to blame my lists to much. Usually I tend to use mostly units I knew worked both from a comp standpoint, but also units that suits my way of playing (I believe my track record is more losses than wins). Now that there are new rules I have a hard time knowing what to pick, since I haven't been able to test things out. I just go with units I think is good or have read here on the forum that worked for others.

Here is two examples of lists I used so far:

Re: 9th Age - Attempt on a "default" 2500 list

Post by Loppamannen »

The first list I tested a while ago against O&G.

I lost both hydras early because of artillery, and also go the wind knocked out of my knights before they came into combat. I wasn't sure what tactic I wanted with that list, and felt I missed something. I was aware that at least one of my hydras was going to die early, but was hoping that at leased one was going to survive to aid the knights with the beastmaster BSB.

The second list I played agains Beast heards. I charged the knight bus into his big unit of minotaurs in round two with the aid of my exe. He ofc made a insane roll after I rolled about avg, and my units fled and that was kind of game over.

So what I wonder is if these lists are completely wrong, or if its the generals who gets the blame for my losses!!??! Any advice on the lists. I mostly play O&G and BH, but also ID and SE. How would you go forth to create a one list the can be used for all? I would like to practice with one list first, then mix in other options/units when I have figured out how to play after that.

Please advice!

Hey,
After looking at your lists I would recommend giving the altar of yema a try. it gets strider, switfstride, distracting and +1 movment. it is bound to get the charge which can be devestating so long as you don't have bad luck in dice rolls. It's a staple in my army and it always shines in combat and gives out good buffs for our troops :) The dreadprince with headsmans axe is a build I love using, I would keep that one if I were you.
I haven't used hydras yet but my suggestion is to hide them behind hills and/or other los blocking terrain towards you enemy. I see you are playing against some high tougness armies ( from Dread elf perspective), have you considered using the banner of gar daecos? combine it with 2+ units of spearmen/corsairs you get +1 to wound. You can also get vanguard on corsairs if you give 1 character per unit fleet commander.. it can give you more synergy with your raptor knights so that you focus on breaking one flank.

what magic schools do you tend to choose against these opponents of yours?
We are not retreating, we are marching in a different direction!
