Lord General Kala

In response to your inquiry I am pleased to report the following forces are now assembled at the Melphular Base Camp, Maibd Pass, Wrath Gate:

7th Lekain Raider Battalion

1st SWM Provisional Brigade consisting of:
2nd SWM Provisional Battalion, consisting of:
1st Melphular Expeditionary Warband and the 3rd Melphular Raider Warband
and the 8th Melphular Heavy Support Battalion

Newly arrived forces:
23rd Morathor Raider Battalion

34th Lerorthor Frontier Battalion

4th Lerorthor Assault Battalion

The 7th Lekain Raider Battalion has been providing camp security but is eager to again engage the enemy. Their last battle was against Asur forces at an abandoned orc village. The battle was a draw, so they thirst for a rematch.

The 1st Melphular Expeditionary Warband and 3rd Melphular Raider Warband have been conducting supply line raids against the Asur/Bretonnian base camp here.

Yesterday while preparing to leave on such a raid, the 3rd Melphular Raider Warband intercepted an Asur warband preparing to attack the Melphular Base Camp. Captain Tuern Graroth fought well in the Druchii tradition giving more hurt to the enemy then he received. It was a minor victory, but a victory that has contributed to the improving moral of the troops.

I am leaving shortly with the 1st Melphular Expeditionary Warband to hit the Asur supply lines again.

With your concurrence and the recommendation of my father, Lord Saur, Captain Harkith Vengoth will be giving the brevet promotion to Colonel and given command of the 3rd SWM Provisional Brigade which is now forming from the 23rd Morathor Raider Battalion, 34th Lerorthor Frontier Battalion and 4th Lerorthor Assault Battalion. This new brigade should be combat ready in a week.

I have continued training the 2nd SWM Provisional Battalion and the 8th Melphular Heavy Support Battalion into a functioning whole, the 1st SWM Provisional Brigade. With your permission I will assume the brevet rank of Colonel in order to command this new brigade.

If the 1st Brigade is not combat ready this weekend, I will let Captain Aspethor Rergoth of Lekain and his 7th Raiders off the leash and see what they can do to test the Asur base camp’s defenses.

In another week I expect to see either or both of the brigades in the field against the Asur. At that time we will have the 7th Lekain Raider Battalion (993 effectives), the 1st SWM Provisional Brigade (2,969 effective) and the 3rd SWM Provisional Brigade (2,976 effectives). I pray this meets with your approval.

Death to the Asur! Glory to the Druchii!

Greeetings and Salutations,

The Sorceresses you have trained for me are working out superbly. The first bound daemon was presented to me last night and I am thoroughly pleased. The Black Lotus 1st will soon add a daemonic detachment.

Seeing as how you have as so far performed within my expectations, I am willing to allow you a little more latitude in your methods. It is not expected that your god should allow worshippers of another god to adopt his dark blessings. There should be few that openly wear symbols of Khaine amongst the Slaaneshi 7th, but those that do you may transfer to the 5th.

I care not which god a warrior worships as long as they fight and kill at my command. If you are not proselytizing or fermenting discord among my troops, you may handle the training as you see fit.

Additionally, you may chose your personal guard from the revised list that I have returned to you. It includes the majority of your personal selections with a few of my own in whom I have the utmost confidence. I am sure you will find them suitable to your tastes. I have been told that some are quite talented.

As for the infiltrators, any spies that caught deserve whatever punishment it pleases you to dispense. You may address the 7th Division and inform them that anyone who dares to speak out and suggest that I am spying on you will have their tounge cut out on my orders. It would not surprise me to find that our cousins are attempting to slither into our tents.

I am ordering the 7th Division into combat this evening - a harassment raid on Asur targets of opportunity. You may join them if you wish to exercise your powers.

We are stuck in between a large khaineite force and a large cult force. It looks as if they plan on running through us, slaughtering us, and killing the other. We are immedatly rasing the banner of the black lotus, may its colors shine for ever. At worst we will side with the stronger force, and then procede south. Sorry to hear about your situation down there. We are trying to to get back to the Litany of Death. Its about 2 days march from our current location.

Have recieved your reply. We have tried to run, but have been noticed. Any survivors will try to run us down. We have managed to take up a flank position in the forest, and the two factions are about to show there sideds to our flank. We are observing here, and are setting up our repeter bolt throwers to harry the flanks of both armys if required. Will march to Litany of Death once all bogy forces are accounted for.

Lord General Kala

Yesterday we conducted our second raid on the Asur supply lines to their Maibd Pass base camp. It was another minor victory. At this rate we will have cut off the Asur from all supply. I will be sending the 7th Raiders on the next raid. That should insure the disruption of the Asur supplies. So far all caravan guards have been Asur. I have to wonder where the Bretonnians are?

The 15th Lekain Raider Battalion has arrived and will replace the 7th Raiders as Base security.

With the Base security held by the 15th Lekain Raiders, the 1st and 3rd SWM Provisional Brigades will soon be available for offensive operations against the Asur Maibd Pass Base.

This raid added 170 Asur ears to the collection. My collection now numbers 375.

Death to the Asur! Glory to the Druchii!

31 October (Karelon)

Lord General Kala

Yesterday, I sent the 7th Lekain Raider Battalion under Captain Aspethor Rergoth of Lekain on a combined reconnaissance in force and supply lines raid behind the Asur Maibd Pass base camp. The attack was less then I had hoped for. They encountered a Bretonnian regiment guarding the supply caravan. The ensuing battle was inconclusive, a draw with the 7th giving a small amount of injury more then it received. In spite of that the results of the raid will have a major impact on future operations here.

A Bretonnian courier was captured and killed and his dispatch case recovered by our forces. The case contained a personal message from the Bretonnian Baron Derles to the Asur Prince Commander Lothanryll in command of the Asur Maibd Pass base. I am attaching the message with this letter.

“October 25
“Prince Lothanryll,

“The Aric-Rin Errantry Regiment along with Prince Nilar’s very own brigade are coming to reinforce your armies stationed at Maibd Pass. That will provide you with an additional 4,000 effectives.

“Within 2 to 3 weeks my regiment and I with one perhaps two additional Asur battalions will converge there as well. These additional battalions will add an additional total of 4,000 effectives.

“We can then formulate an assault plan to drive the filthy ones from the Maibd Pass. Then on to the Wrath Gate!

“Baron Derles Girmond Arniele Delociele of Corpeles”

Further, this caravan carried with it the Asur payroll for their Maibd Pass base. While we were unable to capture the whole of the payroll, we did capture the payroll muster record for the base. These records show a total of five Asur battalions and a Bretonnian regiment already at the base. That is the equivalent of seven battalions, a force equal to our own here. While this is no cause for alarm, the Asur will receive an additional seven to eight battalions in the next 1-3 weeks. They will then have a significant superiority in numbers against our own forces here.

I have dispatched a message to my father requesting additional battalions as soon as he can provide them. I understand you have recently sent him gold and jewels to add to his war chest. It is my understanding that with that he will be able to convince the Black Cities to contribute battalions from their City Guard. City Guard battalions are mostly heavy battalions and will be most useful against the Asur/Bretonnian main forces. Our own successes here against the Asur supply lines are being used to recruit battalions from the territories as well. While raider battalions are light battalions, their numbers will make it easier to divert Asur forces to guarding supplies and chasing after them instead of massing for the main battle between the bases.

We will not fail you. Without reinforcements we will still be tying up nearly 15,000 effectives here. Even if we fail to win the day, we will see thousands of Asur and Bretonnians die as well.

Death to the Asur and their Bretonnian allies! Glory to the Druchii!

From the Citadel of Forlorn Hope

General Kala
Greetings and Salutations

I have received word from the Witch Gate Governor of your generous gift. It is greatly appreciated and will be put to immediate use in raising additional forces for the defense of the Wrath Gate.

As economic concerns are the primary motivator for the Black Cities, I will now have the means to motivate their governors to send troops for the defense of the Wrath Gate when we meet this week. I would expect that they would provide three battalions of city guards within the following week, with an additional two battalions the week after. With the later I will send one of my own battalions. That will provide two additional brigades.

My son has reported good success in raiding the Asur supply lines. This is now being used to motivate the territorial governors to send additional troops for theirs.

Sadly for the war against the Asur, the March now has fourteen battalions committed to the pacification of the Copper Hills. Ten battalions, one from each Black City and territory, are committed for the defense and maintenance of the Witch Gate. The Black Cites have ten additional battalions operating in the Plain of Spiders. The five territorial governors have normally fifteen battalions operating in their territories suppressing the lesser races there. In the frontier numbers are seldom as great a problem as the money to pay them and supply them. So your addition to the March’s war chest is of great use.

Sending Black City battalions to the Maibd Pass will result in command problems for my son. No one will contest his right to be base commandant, as he is my son and the post of commandant is an administrative one. But his ambitions for field command will be challenged. His permanent rank is that of a captain. The Black Cities can be counted upon to send at least a colonel in command of the first three battalions and most likely a full general with the second three battalions. Black City officers are sticklers for the chain of command being in the hands of the highest-ranking officer, and they prefer it to be one of theirs. Unless Karelon obtains promotion by deeds on the battlefield he will be their subordinate. The ladies of the Black Cities will not tolerate taking orders from males of lesser rank. I have power over them in the Grand Council only because I have already proven myself on the field of battle as a general of power. I have reminded my son of this and instructed him to make sure that the Druchii officers with him understand this. A Drowenarii lady will not hesitate to kill an inferior male, even a Druchii male, who does not show her the proper respect and difference due her rank. Code duello is a fact of life in the Black Cities.

I do not seek preferential treatment for Karelon. But I need a son who has proven himself in battle, large-scale battles, to be my heir and second-in-command here. He must prove himself or he is of little use to me. The Druchii territorial governors will obey who ever the Witch King appoints as March Warder, but the Drowenarii City Governors will only abide a Druchii male who has proven himself through the shedding of blood in behave of the Black Cities.

Regarding the greenskin waagh to the north, my shades have reported a most disturbing situation there. The greenskins have established camps on the edge of the chaos wastes, but only one battle has been fought. They make no moves against the Cult forces there and the Cult makes no move against them. The greenskins spend their time chanting and dancing their dances. It is as if they wait for something or somone. I mistrust greenskins with patience it is most un-natural.

Death Night has come and gone and my troops are not too badly depleted. I have tried to make a combined celebration and rite of passage out of it by plying the Witch Elves with bloodwine and forming up a gauntlet. All the would-be regimental champions get to run the gauntlet. Survivors get promoted. Those that do not provide entertainment for the troops and blood for the Maibds. It isn’t the traditional celebration, but it keeps the slaughter from being randomized. Some of the more Slaanesh-minded even joined in the fun. Laughter is a rare commodity these days and the Slaaneshi weren’t about to be left wanting for such a pleasure. I am sure that the morale has been boosted in the camp and seventeen out of eighty-two have survived to become champions to their units.

The 7th Division has reported the results from their engagement. Once again, the Asur have walked away with victory. But there is a side that the enemy does not see. More than half of either force was destroyed. Yet the majority of our losses were daemons! They are bound now and it will be easy to summon them again. Dead Asur are dead Asur. Dead daemons are merely troops waiting to be recycled from the void. We may have lost the battle, but there are now a handful more Druchii than Asur left over to fight again. I must try to multiply this effect.

I have come across yet another conundrum. Saur Lengoth has sent troops from the Black Cities of the Southwestern Marches to reinforce his son. Yet they might not obey him. His official rank is only Captian, but he has the assumed mantle and responsibilities of a Colonel. I am now faced with the dilemma of prematurely promoting Karelon before he fulfills his assignment or risking a mutiny. Fortunately, I have some time to consider this before they arrive.

Mutterings from my forward scouts are becoming consistent. The rituals at the gate are attracting the attention of the enemy. I have no doubt that they will attempt a disruption.

K

1 Nov Postscript

Am I prescient? The 1st Division is leaving immediately via the new tunnel to intercept an Asur cavalry force bent on disrupting the ritual at the Gate. I will have to chose the battlefield carefully.

Melphular Base Camp

Lord General Kala

This day we obtained a major victory over the Asur!
I lead the 2nd SWM Provisional Battalion out this morning to probe the Asur Maibd Base defenses. As we approached the Red Rock Junction we could see an Asur battalion approaching us. Preparing to engage them I rode up and challenged the Asur commander to single combat. He accepted and we charged each other. I struck him down. As he fell from his steed his Asur scum rode me down and rescued him before I could take his head and ears. This breech of honor so enraged my warriors that they immediately charged the Asur. The charge broke the Asur battle line. We captured three standards, three hundred captives and 150 ears. The rocks of the junction ran red with Asur blood. It was a major victory, the first such victory by either side in the Maibd Pass since the commencement of this war. That is one Asur battalion that we will not see again very soon.

I now have 525 ears as testimony to the valor of my Druchii warriors.

Death to the Asur! Glory to the Druchii!

The troops are raving about the Battle at Tair Og. I am being cheered and sacrifices are being made to both gods in my name. One officer offered me his children as slaves for a century if I would teach them tactics. The entire camp is hailing me as a genius.

I am not convinced.

That battle was won only on luck, sorcery and the benefit of terrain. I can no more take credit for it than I can for the summer storms that wash clean the streets of Naggarond. Allowing myself to build my ego on such preposterous nonsense is like building a keep in the Doom Glade swamps. It would only degrade me into another strutting fluffbird of a Court Commander. I will hold my Drannach close. This war is not won and the Asur are not going to go home because of my “brilliant victory”. Indeed, if the prisoners are a sampling, they will be even more incited to the offensive.

But I now have an Asur Prince under my whip. I was perceptive enough to recognize the crest of an Asur Royal House on his pendant. Otherwise he would now be in the slave pens awaiting sale or sacrifice with the rest. I do not know what to make of him. He is stoic as any Asur, but an odd light burns in his eyes. I have made sure that Mistress Ki does not ply her skills on him just yet. I must decide how to handle him to the best effect. I do not want him branded and his eyes gouged out for the name of his tailor.

My spies in the north have been reporting in steadily. The balance of power is ever shifting between the Cult and the Temple. But it is shifting rapidly and wildly. Ghrond is a whirlwind of war. Not a day passes without a major conflict being fought.

I suddenly feel chained to the Gate. It is as if the new way of the world is being decided and I have neither voice nor sword in the decision. How paradoxical that I command an army of many thousands, yet I feel helpless as a human child.

I can only hold a faint hope that Hellebron and Morathi are both killed. Perhaps if more level heads were in charge of the factions then the Druchii would be united. I fail to see how gods of murder and mayhem would not consider each other as acceptable allies. Surely the Druchii would sweep the world if the Cult and the Temple would simply join forces and go on a rampage of conquest. At the very least Malekith would hold the Phoenix Throne again.

But the mortals who believe that they speak for the gods are invariably arrogant and selfish things. The future of my homeland is in the hands of fanatics bent on maintaining power at all costs.

Maibd Pass, Wrath Gate

My Lord General Kala

After receiving the orders promoting me to Major, I requested Captain Aspethor to grant me the use of his battalion while the 2nd SWM Provisional is undergoing rest and refit in the aftermath of their victory at Red Rock Junction. (There is a movement among the lordlings of the 2nd to have the Red Rock Junction renamed Asur Blood Rock. I think it would be a fitting tribute to their valor if you would grant this.)

Captain Aspethor graciously granted me permission to take the 7th Lekain Raiders out on patrol. (Captain Aspethor now is owner of a fine set of Ithilmar barding for his steed, if he can find a Dark Steed that will ware it. It’s former owner, Commander Elellarr lost it in his retreat from the battle at Red Rock Junction.)

While on patrol in the vicinity of Mandroth Rock Lt Shedec and his Shades observed an Asur battalion at the Rock engaged in the assembly of an artifact.

I ordered the 7th Raiders to prepare for battle. Their objective was first to disrupt the Asur assembly of the artifact, to capture it is possible and second to kill as many Asur as they could.

Most of the 7th is made up of corsairs, so we advanced by moving from cover to cover, while the Dark Riders rode to cut off the Asur line of retreat. I positioned the Reaper Bolt Throwers where they could engage the Asur main body. This was wisdom as the Asur battalion included a company of dragon princes.

When the 7th was ready I advanced and challenged the Asur commander to single combat. I had the corsairs with me raise the banner I now carry with me, the banner of the bloody ears. Seeing that banner was all it took to goad the Asur commander into coming to me. He was riding with the Dragon Princes so he was in heavy armour. He did show some honor by dismounting to face me on foot as I was with the corsairs and so not mounted myself. In hindsight he should have stayed mounted, he might have lived if he had. The fight took some time he was a good fighter. Still I was better or maybe just luckier. My father has often said the difference between alive and dead is sometimes a matter of simple luck. I received one wound from him before I was able to get inside his guard and put my sword into his heart.

I then took him by the head and cut off his left ear. That was the signal for the 7th to charge the Asur. It was bloody work, but well done. Only the Dragon Princes managed to escape in tack. The bolt throwers quickly convinced them that staying their ground was a losing proposition. In all 210 ears were taken, all left ears and 420 captives were taken. It was a major victory. We did capture the Asur artifact, but the mage that was assembling it got away. I am sending it to you with this letter for your sorceresses to analyze. We are not equipped for such work at the present time.

Death to the Asur! Glory to the Druchii!

Major Karelon Lengoth of Melphular

Addendum to letter: I have just received a “gift” from my father, a black raven’s feather. It is the custom of the March to award such a gift to a victorious commander to remind them: “Death is light as a feather. But Duty is as heavy as a mountain.” A not so subtle reminder that whom the gods would destroy they first give pride, then hubris, then ate’ (madness) and then destruction.

Further I just received word of your great victory Tair Og. Congratulations to you, your sorceresses and warriors from all the warriors at Melphular Base.

General Kala

First, permit me to congratulate you on your most recent victory. We just receive news of it via the Witch Gate.

Second, thank you again for the wealth you sent me for my war chest, it will be put to good use.

Third, the Grand council meeting yesterday was everything I always fear about such meetings.

It began well enough. The reports from my son and other sources on the war at the Wrath Gate were well received. The territorial governors were most impressed with Karelon’s victories and promotion. The Black City governors were less impressed, as was to be expected. On the other hand they were receptive to sending troops of their own to the Wrath Gate in exchange for some of the gold you sent me. They are always amendable to cash.

While we were discussing (dickering) over the particulars, we received a messenger from Lord Surdron, commander of the Copper Hills Expeditionary Army. It was not good news. After days of skirmishing with assorted goblin bands, the Khugrus Night Goblin Tribe attacked the Jhunlelessra City Guard Provisional Brigade (the 1st and 5th Jhunlelessra City Guard Battalions) under the command of Colonel Olervin Kirae. It was a disaster. The 1st Jhunlelessra City Guard Battalion lost almost two-thirds of its companies in the battle. It was been disbanded and the survivors used as replacements for the losses taken by its sister battalion the 5th Jhunlelessra City Guard. Reports on the battle are still being received, but indicate the night goblins started the battle with a display of powerful sorcery. I am waiting for Lady Ean Shernig’s report on her investigation of what magic was employed by the night goblins and what effect this may have on future operations there.

It was proposed by Lady Lylintha Shylice that, the city governor of Ghindrice, that the deployment of additional troops to the Wrath Gate be delayed pending a determination of what additional forces may be needed in the Copper Hills. I called a recess at that point. That gave me the time to negotiate with the governors and ensure that troops for the Wrath Gate would not be delayed.

After the recess I was able to obtain pledges from the Black Cities of one battalion of City Guard troops from each city for the Wrath Gate. The first three under the command of a Drowenarii colonel will leave by the end of the week for the Wrath Gate. They should arrive at Melphular Base by the 10th of the month. Three additional battalions, two from the Black Cities and one from the Citadel’s troops will leave in ten days time and arrive there by the 17th of the month. A Black Cities’ general will be expected to accompany that force, baring the need to send the general and additional forces to the Copper Hills.

The Lady Vessra, the Jhunlelessra City Governor, stated that regardless of future troop deployments she had ordered the 8th Jhunlelessra City Guard Battalion to leave for the Copper Hills to replace the 1st Battalion. It would be lead by Colonel Xurisstree Ghelura as replacement for Colonel Olervin Kirae.

The campaign to pacify the Copper Hills has turned into a campaign to conquer the Copper Hills. Still additional troops will be sent to defend the Wrath Gate, as I promised. I will continue to work on the territorial governors to send territorial battalions for the Wrath Gate as well.

General Kala:

This is a follow up regarding the 7th Division. Tensions are very high. Recently, one of the more prominent Khainites was found murdered in her bed. She looked to have been in the throes of passion when she was disemboweled. No immediate leads have been followed through upon. The obvious suspects include the Lady Xaniphera and her devoted she keeps around her. When the Watch commander questioned her, however, she had an alibi. The Annointed with her, Eurthurian corroborated her story, that they were together. They have others to affirm their story.
The Khainites within the area are up in arms about it. They are openly accusing the Cultists and have started many fights. The company commanders are being harsh in their punishments in order to quell the fighting, but things are getting worse.

The secularist are also beginning to get jumpy. After all, they were promised no religious persecution within our ranks, and the Khainites seem out for blood.

The Cultists seem to be the only calm ones about. I believe, however, that it is a facade put up to further anger the Khainites. During a shouting match outside the tents of the Arch-Sorceress, she came out and said, this from a direct quote,”Let the curs be, my children. They are only jealous that they can’t experience the pleasure of a true God. Let them worship their lesser god with their primitive concepts.” A fight broke out shortly after that.

The spies sent in to the Cultist ranks have either turned up missing or been unresponsive to contact. I believe one or two of them converted under the charismatic eye of the Lady.

I would recommend removal of the Lady Xaniphera from the ranks here, in order for peace to be restored. I have no proof that she goes against your orders, but believe that catastrophe might be on the horizons. The guards no longer look out for Asur, but are looking into camp at the battlelines being drawn there.

I will continue to conduct this mission as you see fit. Please advise

I awoke this morning from a bizarre dream. I was having tea with Khaine and Slaanesh. They would dip little worshipers of the other sect into their cup of blood and eat them like little squirming cakes. I was having Asur, but my plate was almost bare. The conversation was pleasant, as if we were all old friends discussing our lives.

It has given me an idea. I may be killed for it but it might ensure that more Druchii come to the Wrath Gate. We have about two-dozen dwarven slaves at the moment and more will be easily acquired. I am going to order them to carve two huge relief sculptures on the Wrath Gate pylons. One will be of Slaanesh eating Crone Hellebron, the other will be of Khaine eating Morathi. Both will face the center of the Gate and will tower over the valley.

That should get their attention.

If I am to hold this damned Gate while those selfish, power-hungry she-dogs bicker Naggaroth into oblivion, I intend to decorate it as I see fit. They will either ignore it and I will immortalize their foolishness or they will send troops to the Gate with blades drawn. If so, they will have to cut their way through the Asur to get to me. Kala the Heretic, Kala the Blasphemer! I can almost hear the cries now, and I utterly relish them.

The Asur Prince is stubborn. I brought him a meal in his cell last night in an attempt to get him to lower his guard. He neither ate nor drank nor spoke a word as I sat and ate my best roast and drank Caledorian brandy in front of him. He wouldn’t even look me in the eye. No matter. Interrogations of this sort only require patience. I have ordered Mistress Ki to come up with a regimen of reward and denial. He will break in the end.

But there is a distraction brewing in the south. Xaniphera is treading dangerous waters. For all appearances, she is doing precisely what I have ordered her not to do. I am getting sick of her insubordination and treachery. I have worked far too hard to ensure that the 5th and 7th Divisions operate as comrades in arms. That balance is the only truly successful example in the whole of Naggaroth of unity between Slaaneshi and Khainite. She seems determined to ruin it for the selfish gains of religious extremism. If this continues I will handle her myself. I will snap her in half and grind her into paste.

It has been reported to me that you are experiencing difficulties within the 7th Black Lotus Brigade. The binding principal of defending Naggarroth has been breaking down and religious enmity is taking control instead. I can only encourage you to take whatever measures you feel are necessary to insure the Brigade fights the Asur and not itself.

Here in the Southwestern March I am receiving reports of small-scale fights between adherences to the Cult of Pleasure and the Temple of Khaine in the territories. Both cults have adherences here, but not in the Black Cities. The Drowenarii appear to have their own faith and a different god. One of the binding principles laid out by my predecessors and the last Marshal of the Confederacy, Uspril Zakti Iylembree (who is still alive after all these centuries) was that no effort would be made by the March government to interfere with the religious activities of the Black Cities and vice versa.

If the fighting between the two factions gets out of hand here, the religious leaders of the Black Cities may take it as a threat to their beliefs. While the “Ladies” of the Black Cities will not talk of their faith, it is evident from their behavior that they have a high level of religious fanaticism among them. It is also evident that the religious leadership is separate from the political and the political is subservient to the religious. Drowenarii males say nothing about either the social, political or religious practices of the Black Cities, even under serious questioning.

As a result of this I have ordered the territorial governors to suppress the fighting. If needed, they are to capture the fanatics and then to put them in the nearest coliseum and let them fight it out for the amusement of the populace.

I have also warned them that if any of the governors show any indication of siding with either of the factions, I will put them and their families in the coliseum with very hungry cold ones, myself. I have given Hendath Droris responsibility for this. So you will not be seeing him again for the foreseeable future.

On Nov. 3rd the 3rd Jhunlelessra, 2nd Ghilyra, and the 8th Morshina City Guard Battalions under the command of Colonel Lady Helynirthel Zeeljruit left for the Melphular Base, Wrath Gate. They should arrive early next week. I have alerted Major Karelon of their anticipated arrival.

Lord General Kala

In accordance with my Father’s instructions the 2nd SWM Provisional Battalion has been inducted into the service of House Melphular as the 2nd Melphular Frontier Battalion. With this I took the 2nd Melphular Frontier, 7th Lekain Raider and the 8th Melphular Heavy Support Battalions in a recon in force against the Asur Maibd Pass Base.

On approaching the Black Rock Junction we were sited by an Asur regiment made up of three Asur battalions (later identified as the Tandellbb, Imrinthwar and Eldroth Battalions). Both sides formed in up in battle formations. The line up was like this:

Imrinthwar…………………………………….Tandellbb………………………………….Eldroth

vs

8th Melphular Heavy Support………..2nd Melphular Frontier……………..7th Lekain Raider

I began the battle with a challenge to the Asur commander. The fight was short but sharp. I succeeded in giving the Asur one wound before he broke off. This had little impact on the battle.

On my right flank the 8th Melphular Heavy Support took considerable casualties and is developing a reputation as an unlucky battalion.
On my left flank the 7th Lekain Raider again showed its superiority to the Asur and inflicted considerable casualties upon the Asur.
Leading the 2nd Melphular Frontier in the center I handed the Asur more damage and casualties then we received.

The overall results of the battle were a minor victory for the Druchii. We took 510 Asur left ears and 1,020 captives for the slave market, if they all survive their wounds.
While it was a minor victory, we did take considerable casualties and it will be many weeks to bring the three battalions back to strength. On the other hand it will be even longer before those three Asur battalions are battle ready again.

Death to the Asur! Glory to the Druchii!

General Kala

Since the start of these difficulties, my agents have reported rumors and whisperings of dark doings in far corners of the March. Most I have attributed to the troubled minds of religious fanatics, but now specifics are beginning to be clear. Beastmen are gathering in the deep forests south of the Kraken Lake, too many beastmen.

On 9 October the Territorial Governor, Lord Mon Grarkon of Lekain, of the Plain of Dogs sent in the first reports indicating that beastmen herds had been gathering in the Kraken Deep Forest on the south shore of the Kraken Lake.

On 2 November Follow up reports from Governor Lord Mon indicated that a sizable beastmen herd had gathered and could be expected to rampage across the territory. Gov. Mon would be calling up all available Territorial battalions to intercept the herd before it can do much damage.

On 5 November Shades identified the Beastlord Mardirat of the herd Eraluth was identified as being responsible for the gathering. Mardirat was also identified as being a worshiper of Slaanesh. There were also reports that an Elvin high sorceress of Slaanesh has been seen moving amongst the beastmen there.

On 6 November, the Shades were believed to have been ambushed and killed that were shadowing the Herd.

On the 8 November Governor Lord Mon lead six battalions of the Plain of Dogs Territorial Army to Rallon Junction to the south of the Kraken Forest and there met Mardirat Rampage lead by Doombull Gudeoor in battle. While Gov. Lord Mon won a solid victory in the battle, his army of 6,000 suffered 2,280 casualties. Mon lead his Guard Battalion into the fiercest of the fighting. The Guard took the highest casualties defeating first the Drainstulud Warherd of Khorne and then taking on the Doombull’s own Tichloch Warherd of Slaanesh. It will take months before the Governor’s Guard Battalion will be considered battle ready again. . I am proposing laurels for the Battalion.
The Mardirat Rampage is only the beginning of the beastmen warherds preparing to leave the deep forest

What disturbs me most is that beastmen that follow Slaanesh appear to be the leaders of this. While I have little love for the Temple of Khaine, I have an active distaste for the Cult of Pleasure and other worshipers of Slaanesh. That is my bias and I know it.

In the Copper Hills, we have the first good news since the beginning of the offensive. After the debacle at the Zorboth Mines, we have needed this. The Morshina Copper Hills Provisional Brigade fought and defeated the Daurogh Tribe of Night Goblins. While the objective of the battle was to seize a goblin shrine and they failed to do that, Colonel Jhundil Faenre still managed to inflict considerable more casualties then she incurred. Any victory at this point is significant to the moral of the Copper Hills Army.

I have also been getting reports of mysterious ships lying of the northern islands of the Northern Broken Lands Territory. I have sent Hendath Droris to investigate and if my nightmare-laden dreams have any substance, I have empowered him with my writ to command any resources, territorial or March, available to assist him in the investigation.

The first three Black Cities Battalions should have arrived at the Melphular Base by now. The next three battalions, two City Guard and the 5th Citadel Frontier Battalion will be ready to leave the Citadel on the 10th and should then arrive by the 15th. I was able to keep the Black Cities from sending a general officer this time, but it is up to Karelon to earn the rank he needs to keep command of the Base and the forces assembled there. Colonel Lady Helynirthel Zeeljruit will give him trouble unless he has rank equal to hers. Colonel Saurl Kherida of the 5th Citadel Frontier is my man and will not give Karelon trouble, if Karelon has earned his colonelcy by the time he arrives.

8 Nov.

It is done! A week ahead of schedule and it is done! The wards on the Wrath Gate are resealed! The Sorceresses came to me to inform me only moments ago. The agony of an Asur prince was the key and our prisoner was perfectly suited. I have no doubt that his screams were heard in Arnheim itself.

There must be celebrations! My troops and those of Lord Melphular the Younger and Lady Vraneth must be rewarded! I am going to order half of the Asur slaves to be given over to my Druchii for their amusements. Khainite or Slaaneshi, they will all make merry and dance in the blood of the enemy. And I must send gifts to Lord General Vraneth and Lord Melphular the Elder.

As to the Asur army? Well, they deserve a celebration as well.

Lord General Kala

Shades watching the Asur/Bretonnian Maibd Pass Base report the camp is being abandoned. With the concurrence of Colonel Lady Helynirthel Zeeljruit, we have detached all available Dark Riders to follow and harass the Asur in their departure. This includes all battle ready Dark Riders from the 7th Lekain Raiders. The Asur with their Bretonnian lackeys appear to be headed for the 6th Gate of Arnhelm.

We are preparing the remaining troops to decamp and pursue.

Lord Kala,
The Melphular Base hails your leadership! Your strategy has saved the Wrath Gate from the Asur! We await your orders.

Death to the Asur! Glory to the Druchii!
