Looking to start a Chaos Fleet, Any Ideas?

Post by Kfpm »

I decided that untill I have the large amount of monye needed to redo my 40k army, i'm going to take up BFG. Having read the rules I feel a chaos fleet would be the best for me feith wise, but i'm still stuck on what to take. I'd like my first list to be fairly balanced, so pretty much whatever ideas you can throw at me.

The only things I definetly want to take is a lord with the Mark of Khorne (i hope for it to be the fleet that accompanies my 40k Khorne) but other then this i'm pretty stuck for what to take. (Just to clarify i'm talking about the ships from the main rules, not the supplements.)

All ideas will be greatly appreciated with cookies,

Unfortunately I don't know to much on what works best for chaos. But you can get all the rules on the specialist games sites, including all the different fleets, so you can open the PDF and make comparisons if it helps.

it largely depends on what type of fleet you want to field; heavy guns, heavy ordnance, or a mix.

Grabbing a few murders and a few Devastations is a pretty safe bet; the devastation is useful in either type of fleet, and the murders will let you get a feel for exactly how much firepower you can dish out. If you decide you want an ordinance fleet instad, the murders still make good tenders to soak up fire and keep ships away from your carriers.

If you're going for a Khorne fleet that's going to do a lot of boarding, I'd definitely pick up a repulsive GC, or a desolator battleship; the repulsive scares people with the broadsides it can lay out, and the extra hull points help in boarding. The Desolator seems like it was made to be a Khorne battleship; it's fast, it's big, and it has enough guns to keep the stragglers off while it goes for it's target.

I use a Chos fleet regularly and I find a trio of slaughter class crusiers accompanied by a squdron of 3 idolators, 3 Iconoclasts makes an awesome flanking force.

Your main force should have at least 2 carnage and either 1 Repulsive or 1 Despoiler to anchor the fleet. Use whatever points your have left for a devestation or Styx class for carrier support.

Cruiser boxes and lots of them. Chaos cruisers are their main strength, and massed weapon batteries make eldar cry. Other than that *shrug* preferance.
