Any other card game I played had much better rules and was a lot more interesting.
Doom Trooper
WarCry
Warhammer 40k
Horus Heresy
heck, even something silly like Thorgal
MtG still lives only because it's being ran by the behemoth known as Wizards of the Coast.
Get out while you can.
The game runs in cycles:
Edition: 3, 3-set expansions
rewind
and at rewind, all your old cards become useless if you still hope to win any games.

I only really intend to collect the cards, not to game with them. I'm sure I will play a few games, but I'll most likely be playing against friends and relatives who also only collect cards from the same edition. The 2010 cycle has just started, so I'm planning to try and get all the cards from it and then keep playing 2010 when the next one comes out in however many years...
I've played Horus Heresy, WarCry and 40k too (TYRANIDS YAY!), and am looking into getting the new Warhammer Invasion LCG at Christmas. I never bothered with Chaos in the Old World though... it just looked a bit... lame. I've never played Doom Trooper though, so I wouldn't know how to compare that one with MTG.
As I'm in it for the collecting side of things though, I feel MTG is a much better system to focus on than anything like Horus Heresy, which is quickly outdated and suddenly hard to buy anymore. With the Horus books selling so damn well I'd have thought GW would have rereleased the CCG or something...
If they actually sold it in GW stores they'd make a helluvalot more sales
As it stands, I can get MTG at my local Waterstones and stuff, even the Newsagents has it in sometimes. It's a lot easier to come across than other CCGs.

Blue tinker reporting.
Dalamar has quite the point. After spending some 5000Kč (~195€ nowadays, not that much), I sold the cards and play 100% prox (except lands). It's fun and it's free.

I always ran Red/White Hybrid deck when I played. Combination of Samurai from Kamigawa and the Boros League cards from the first Ravnica set. Was quite a nice deck though it did get smashed by certain builds involving lots of dispel magic.
I also had a Blue/Black draw/discard deck which was at it's prime during Kamigawa with the awesome Demon cards therein.

some sort of white/blue combination.
It was years ago but it basically worked like this:
Placed global enchantment,
Enchanted that enchantment making it a monster with x/x equal to its cost,
Boosted it by x/x (I think x was cards in your graveyard)
attacked once.
All while drawing and discarding cards so he had like 20 cards in discard pile making it something like 30/30 monstrosity.

Well, when I started playing Magic (roughly 10 years ago) my favorite color combination was black/green. Black removal combined with a green ramp into large creatures.
Today I don't have favorite colors anymore, since I play lots of different decks. I mostly proxy decks using magic workstation and then tweak them until I like the way they perform (or I drop the idea because it doesn't work). When im satisfied with a deck I start trading/buying the cards I need.
Sadly most of my friends stopped playing and, since I don't like competitive play, I haven't had much chance to play lately.
@Dalamar:
To avoid situations like that, it's always wise to agree on which cards are allowed before playing. In tournament play there are different categories (Standard, Extended, Legacy etc.). With the large card pool in Legacy, for example, first or second turn kills are often possible and decks in this format cost hundreds of dollars.

I got out of playing both warhammer around 15 years ago and magic around 12 years ago.
What's been interesting to me is that while warhammer has felt very accessible to get back into, magic seems to have gone way overboard and is very inaccessible.
Far too many broken combos (in fact, far too many combos in general) for my liking. And far too many special abilities. To be honest, I remember when my elder brother first brought back a stack of magic cards. We would divide the pile into different colour combinations (say white and green versus black and blue) and play each other. I always thought it was more fun that way. Yes, more basic, but less of the stupid broken combo after stupid broken combo set ups.
Ironically, one of my favourite card games is Yu Gi Oh. At the surface its very simplistic and it does ultimately top out, but at the middle level it has a lot of psychology involved (is that face card down an awesome trap card that's going to obliterate my summoned skull - e.g. mirror force - or is it a feeble attempt to stall me by playing down a useless and irrelevant spellcard?...). (Yes, jump on that if you want, it doesn't change my other points about magic though...).
Oh, and finally, the way that magic's older cards are simply invalidated in all but specialist tournaments is disgusting. Yes GW makes money by re-releasing new editions and army books every 5 years or so and it encourages you to buy the newest miniatures for them, but it does at least allow you to use the older models in its tournaments etc. I couldn't believe that 75% of my cards were invalid in magic simply because they were released before 2000. Awful, simply awful.
Oh, and the answer is white because I used to love my old Icatian infantry deck. I'm pretty sure that it now mostly contains illegal cards, but I liked it back during the day

Would you guess I dislike composition scores in Warhammer?

Look at it this way:
Wizards of the Coast banning certain cards from tournaments sends across a simple message:
"We messed up with the rules, but hey! just don't use the overpowered cards. Also, if your cards are 2+ years old, please don't bring them to a tournament, buy new ones (we don't care they're exactly the same complete with same artwork)"
It's like GW admitting the rules aren't perfect and introducing comp restrictions at GT. Imagine the apocalypse.

Actually I'm fairly sure that if you have a card which has been reprinted into a newer editon (and thus legal in a MTG tournament) but you only have the older card, you are allowed to use it, because it is exactly the same card.

But Dalamar has a point, in that many if not most of the cards are made redundant after the 2 year cycle, which does get annoying i might add.
