Re-release of Blood Bowl next month

Post by direweasel »

If you aren't aware, GW (more specifically Forge World) is bringing back Blood Bowl to the tabletop next month. An exact release date is not yet known, but was confirmed to be November.

New minis, we're told the rules are the same (but you know how rumors can abound about tweaks and such). The board and minis are larger scale than the previous edition, but the same dimensions in terms of the number of squares and all of that, the squares are simply bigger.

For more info.

I've been playing very actively since 93, so I don't really NEED a new edition as such, but I welcome the inevitable influx of new players this should generate, so I am quite excited about the re-release.

Incidentally, my first Blood Bowl team was Dark Elves, and that is probably one of the main reasons I got into Warhammer as well, and naturally Dark Elves then too. Blood Bowl was my "gateway drug". :)

Always wanted some Naggaroth Nightmares: will see how they look when FW get around to it (just a shame they will be so damn expensive!)

A while back I asked how Blood Bowl ties in with AoS and the answer was basically that the alternative Blood Bowl universe didn't implode. Curious...

It's a pretty common thing to hear. Warhammer can seem extremely daunting to a new gamer who sees it for the first time. You have all these little minis that you had to assemble and paint yourself? There's no way I could ever do that!

Then you see a blood bowl team - that's only a dozen guys or so. It won't look great, but I suppose I could paint one of those up and play around. So you do and it's fun...and you buy a few more teams to branch out, and realize something. Hey, each of these teams is like a little Warhammer regiment. Maybe it's not so crazy after all? And then you take the plunge.

I think GW does itself a MAJOR disservice by not support it's "side project" games more fully. I don't know how they could fail to see the connection and how one builds on the other. But apparently they do.

Regarding the new minis, so far I've only seen pics for 4 teams, the Orcs and Humans that come in the starter box, and then Skaven and Dwarves. There's good and bad. They are larger scale so more detail, and probably easier to paint up nicely too because of larger areas, so that's all good. The poses are nice and dynamic, and they're plastic so they're cheap.

However, each positional only seems to have one sculpt. So all 4 of the black orcs will be the same, all 4 orc blitzers the same, etc etc. Hopefully they can branch out with that later, and get a few more sculpts.

GW smelled fresh blood when nearly 1.000 people met in Lucca last november for the World cup.
