WE release date moved

Post by Gnosis »

Talking Dutch with one of the 99% French speaking staff member at my local GW store this afternoon, I could decipher one fact between all the dialectic nonsense he was talking:

WE have had their release date moved again.

Now you will be readying a thorough curse and a rant already, but in fact, they have been moved... to an earlier date. August 2005.

So, enough with all the colourful remarks on delaying the Woodies; it is time for some minor thankings. Minor, because we haven't seen any new models or rules yet, but minor because we at least know now they're close.

Hurrah!

well that is good news i thought for a moment we would have another major rant about GW going on here.

what i am talking about this is great news. my mates will be happy. all we have to hope now is that GW isn't rushing them out, they should take their time and make sure they are perfect.

Know this already its so they can be released for Conflict first of all and the rest to come out at Games Day.

This is basically whats been confirmed so far as i know
Wardancers very cool not static wiht ribbons and what not.
A large Treeman.
Dryads in PLastic as Core.
A Special Female Character polevolting on a staff, with the staff tip the only thing touching the base.
Twin Sisters of who when you kill one she gets back up again unless yo ukill the other at the same time
Mal: Sure. It would be humiliating. Having to lie there while the better man refuses to spill your blood. Mercy is the mark of a great man. (lightly stabs Atherton with the sword) Guess I'm just a good man. (stabs him again) Well, I'm all right.

Something that was already quoted on the forum of my local club;

From the Dire Wolf members in SoCal.

check them out

Here is something I got from a SoCal List I occasionally visit. It's
all about the new WE list.

Released 2nd half 2005
Everything being redone
The background is changing, becoming darked and grimmer - you don't
want to go into the woods today.....
The Wood Elves are not nice people. Not good, not evil, just not very
nice.
Very unpredictable
Loren is as much a part of the army as the Wood Elves themselves
Forest spirits - the Wood Elves have changed the forest spirits as
much as the forest spirits have changed the Wood Elves.
The army list is being written so you can take all Wood Elves, all
Forest Spirits or a mix of the two.
Trying to make it fun for both sides
The Wood Elves are an attacking, dynamic army
The penalty for shooting at long range is back, but Wood Elves don't
get the move and fire penalty any more
Unspecified advantage to shooting at short range (later i found out
it was s4 shots biggrin.gif)
Every unit has a unique role.
There will be new units, including more up-close-and-personal units.

Wood Elves Q&A

How similar will the Wood Elves be to the Beastmen, in terms of
gameplay? - Not really similar. We are trying to make them a good
match-up, though. If the Wood Elves have too much skirmishing
shooting, then its too annoying for the opponent.

There has been a rumour going round that the reason Wood Elves got
put back was due to you working on plastic slayers. True or false? -
False. Ogre Kingdoms pushed WE back, but they're still only 6 months
behind where I'd planned to release them when I took over Warhammer
development.

What sort of cavalry will the Wood Elves have? Will they have
chariots? - No chariots. Glade Riders and Warhawk Riders will still
be there, along with a new unit that hits about as hard as heavy
cavalry

Alex Hedström is one of the main guys in charge of the miniatures

The miniatures are very savage in apperance, and their hairstyles
much more celtic and ornate than that of the high elves or dark
elves.

Wood Elf women participate much more in the new army than before,
they are now to be found both as charachters and as as rank and file
units

There will be a stag rider....cause giant stags will be monstrous
mount for heroes!!Nice idea!

Something about forest spirits' list:
There will be a Lord choice called Great Spirit of the forest that
will be something like a daemonic greater daemon for a matter of stats
(and rules..they in fact have a WS5+ just like daemons).Could be a
spellcaster
The hero choice will be a hero-level Treeman
For core units WE will get dryads, but different from the ones we use
today. still skirmishers and cause fear, though. No word about
aspects. The second core choice will be tree spirits..they will work
out as gnoblars for ogres, thus being something like an upgrade for
WE troops. Special choice is a "ucorn"...ogre size treeman. Rare
Choice: your great treeman, i love these guys...
So this list will be something like a Daemonic legion for the forces
of Light

WE archers will get St4 shots at close range.Waywatchers will get
killing blow with arrows!!

this is all i got off the raining glade, an invisionfree WE forum.
information is reliable.

Sounds good...sounds good. I'm really excited to see the new Woodies cause they are the only army that I've ever been massacred by (my poor Orcs!)!

wow. This actually sounds like an interesting army. Nice change.

I had never considered playing with WE, but this sounds like it might be fun.

AFAIK, their August release date was around for a few months. It's probably just some lower-tier staffie passing down the info from the higher-ups. Still, it's nice to hear about some of their new stuff. I'd heard only about half of those rumors; more rumors must mean closer to release, if that makes any sense. :D

check the date on that post...they took our idea and made it into a character mount.
If anyone gets up me for saying it was my idea, i'm only kidding...i'm sure they had it WAY before we did, but still...i'm happy that they used it. Stag riders are just cool.

looks pretty damn cool, but im probably gonna regret it (i have a very hard time against woodies :( ) hopefully, like it states above, they will be less of a skirmish shooty army and will have something you can actually chase down :D. *grumbles about absurd amount of 5 man archer units you can have*....

I still hope they're going to have a unicorn as a character mount - the woodies really need that. As for the release date, I'll believe it when I see it - been waiting WAY too long for this as it is. We'll see if they're true to their word. The sooner the better of course.

I just hope they haven't broken them....

I told everyone that about three months ago, when I was speaking from a position of authority on the subject. Maybe people should have believed me?
It's probably just some lower-tier staffie passing down the info from the higher-ups.

*cough* me. And the promotion guide that arrives in each store just before the end of the year and details everything the company has planned.
