What armies do you hate fighting against most of all??

Post by Cold73 »

And why ;-)

Just something i was wondering after driving home from a battle against a good friend of mine.
My thought is this....against most armies I can win or draw, or maybe even loose, but most of the time it will be a good battle nontheless.

Not so against Empire...and especially and empire gun line.
Consider this at 2.000 points.

2 units of 20 handgunners
1 unit of 25 swordsman with BSB; life mage (lvl4) and general
1 unit of 20 greatswords with witch hunter
1 mage lvl 2 lore of Shadow
1 steam tank
3 war chickens
1 Hell Blaster Volley gun
(and i believe a priest in there as well some where)

I can kill the steam tank with a serious effort...i can even fight the Warchickens to a stand still...but as soon as i get within 24" of his line i will be shot to pieces....

If you have any advice for me against playing against this list....please feel free to send me a PM.

But most of all i'm interested in knowing what army you dislike playing against most...and why?

Skaven.

Enough chaff to soak up our attacks, both low S multiattacks and high S close combat to chew up our troops, devastating warmachines and magic....and theyre fast so cant easily be outmanoeuvred.

My worst matchup by far.

High Elves with lore of life

T7 Phoenix Guard who can regrow any casualties, along with Cadyran the super cheesy and Teclis the so broken it's just plain silly, not to mention those regenerating lothern sea guard...all with high initiative and ASF to boot.

Grrr.

Coven of Light High Elves. Strength 7 Banishment. Strength 7 Banishment. Pha's Protection. Pha's Protection. Timewarped White Lion Horde. Wheeeee.

Generally speaking though, I always find Chaos challenging. They hit better than us, as fast as us, harder than us, often more than us, whilst a lot of the time I seem to just bounce off them.

Then you also have to deal with 3+ ward save heroes. Not even the magic phase is safe when you are up against Treason of Tzeentch or Infernal Gateway.

For me, it would be Lizardmen with the unkillable frog (Slann) with Lore of Life. He runs around by himself and is ethereal and also his own BSB.

Just as an add, I really hate the Lore of Life.

Dwarves... definitely dwarves. But only the ones with a boatload of shooting. You can run rings around their melee units.

But a line of cannons/grudge throwers + handgunners/crossbomen + Anvil simply mean I will lose half my troops on the way to them, and the rest won't have enough hitting power left to get through T4 and good armor of their ranged units...

Lizardmen. Frog in a unit of Temple Guard T7 with regrowth. Salamanders always have a breath weapon that simply annihilates my units.

Skaven

Heavy magic lists with tons of rats as well as nice shooting, means that you won't get close to them without HEAVY losses (especially if the player is good and uses chaff to stop you halfways). And when you're finally there, you won't be able to kill enough of them to win the battle.

Skaven.
Giant units that can sit there and lock up combat forever.
Able to break the shooting rules with very good shooting attacks.
Able to nerf my shooting.
Auto win spells.

Only reason I don't play them is because I hate ratmen!!!!
Flyers for the win in 8th.

Dwarves! Hate them.

You can't stand back and shoot because their shooting is way better
You can't run at them with flyers because they have the anvil
You can't flank them because they castle up and aren't easy to bait

The only option available is to march my tissue paper strong army over to theirs and if anyone actually survives the 2 turns of shooting you charge in and... get destroyed by their much tougher infantry.

Wood elves. The list was literally custom made to be boring and unrewarding to play against and even if they are beatable these days, that design principle still shines trough.

Lets just hope the next edition isnt another Douchebag-Fanboy production, though I have my doubts.

The previous VC Codex before 8th nerfed them slightly. Mainly just for the Vampire Lord with Blood Drinker in the unit of Bloodknights.

"Yes I've just killed 28 points of your spear men and yes that does instantly resurrect 200 points of my Knights. This is perfectly fair so stop complaining"

I'm glad they removed that item.
