Hordes of Chaos Book pulled.
A buddy of mine, who owns a local WH partner store, had the GW rep pull all of the copies of HOC off his shelves last week. He told my friend that they were going to be obsolete and replaced with an update in an upcoming WD issue. Does anyone know what might be going on here? Are they planning to consolidate BOC with what's left of HOC in the near future? We're all wondering what is going on.

There had been rumblings about this before now. With DoC coming soon, and apparently a new HoC later this year, the current book would have people groaning for several reasons (not least "Why are my daemons rubbish? Can I use the new Daemons in place of the ones in HoC?" etc.).
BoC is still a bit of a mystery. There seems to be no indication that it is getting rolled into HoC, and since the release of DoC and a new HoC would have relatively little impact on it, it's unlikely that it will change any time soon.

This being the reason for the future WD army list.

Well if the WD update is true or not, it doesn't make sense for a GW rep to pull all the stuff from the shelf. At my hobby shop things were never pulled, we had to sell it off at a discount if it was obsolete.

Apparently, GW will credit him when obsolete merchandise is pulled. One of the perks of being a 'partnership' level store.
As far as the books go, I don't see why they can't put all the Chaos 'fluff' and the various gifts/spells/magic items/etc. in the DOC book and then combine the rest of HOC with BOC. Otherwise we're going to have to deal with 3 books and another $22 spent.....
I know, it's all about the money!

About Beasts of chaos, see the new FAQ/errata for that book. It is now totally stand alone and GW are working on a new one.

I find it a little sad that it will not be possible to combine deamons, beasts and mortals anymore.
'Messed up' was not really a matter of the list, but of the players. Powergamers who took one unit of Chosen Knights of Khorne in their BoC army, for example. Sure, abuse like that was annoying.
But now the diversity of chaos - which, after all, is one of its most important characteristics - cannot be combined in a single army anymore.
Legendary battles will be an option, but I doubt many players will use that system.

It´s nice to be important, but it´s more important to be nice.

I thought that part was absolutely hilarious...
GW Manager: "Hey guys... umm that legendary battles idea we had with the 7cannon special choices is kinda flopping.... any ideas ?"
GW Manager #2: "Wait... what if we like... split armies... that way people will have 4-5 different armies and will play legendary battles!!!!"
GW Manager: "THats a great idea!!! Lets do High Elves first!... oh wait... damnit we cant split them!!!"
GW Manager #2: "Hmm... lets make necro's suck so then later we can make an all necro army!!!"
GW Manager: "Great idea... lets do the same to chaos!! It will boost our sales way higher than actual customer service and following the fluff!"
.... Sad part is I can see that conversation developing.

That is exactly what I thought.
GW saw that Apocalypse boosted sales, but (assumption) it was too expensive in development.
So, to put it in the three-step-plan formula:
1. Make a short WD article with rules for legendary battles (doesn't matter if the rules make sense or are balanced, just make them and make the developers not spend more than a day on it).
2. Split armies that formerly were created from a single list into several, usually uncombinable lists that can only be combined via legendary battle rules now.
3. Profit.
Edit:
Heh, thanks man. Actually, though, I am not really 'back', as I'm still only at home with internet access every other weekend at best. But I may indeed browse Dnet more regularly again during those days. I guess its because I finally started working on my Druchii army again, after a long hiatus.
