More Harpies for Dalamar?

Post by Dalamar »

It seems Maelstrom games is stocking gamezone miniatures now. I suppose it's a call for me to buy their harpies hmm? I've been putting that away for quite a while now.

Should I get 5 more harpies for 25 total? :P

Sure, more harpies can never hurt. Well, almost never. If I recall, somebody posted that they have built lists with 35 harpies, and thatmight be a little much.

One might ask "why?"
But then again, you've been looking for harpies since I came to this forum.

I say go for it.
I can't really see where this obsession about harpies comes from, but never the less.

I can see alot of uses, the most important being 1st charge from harpies and then manti or dragon as second charge to eliminate stand and shoot at big nasty thing. Second to shield important units and lastly to grab and hold table quarters.
They tend to fail at baiting with their low LD.

And in the local club we aren't allowed to play more than 2 units of shades and harpies. Standard rules that ive grown to accept.

So for the yes/no/don't care/HARPIESSS! I'm gonna vote 'yes' since I, myself, would like to try them out >More<.

For the fun of it of course!
The one time I fielded 35 harpies (sure, some of them proxies) the look on my opponent's face was priceless :D

Har-Peez?

Strikes me that 20 would be enough, amusing though 25+ must be. I'd say that with 20 you should be able to tackle most priority targets like war machines etc. - another 5 isn't really going to add too much more (compared to some other shiny toys for the rest of your army).

And I think we need to buy DA a maelstrom Pimpinator badge :P.

Neet :)

Dalamar:
Fielding this many harpies, do you run them in 5 "beasts" strong units or more models in each unit?

Might be cool to have a huge unit one big unit of harpies, like 15 or so, and two semi big with 7-10 each. But with 25 models, that would mean 5 units of 5 harpies. 35 harpies is 7 units of 5 even, thats alot of flying around causing mayhem.

*EDIT* unit size limit to 10 models. Darn - although the idea would be nice... Well then, say two units of 10 and one of 5.

only 5s, bigger units are more expensive and die just as easily.
I'd rather have 2 units of 5 than one of 10. You can always use them as you would a single unit and your opponent can't target both at the same time as well as failed panic test will only send a part of 10 harpies away instead of all of them.

Yeah, but that would mean problem for the darn comp score I have to follow for local tournaments :/

1st harpy unit is free, second cost -100 comp, 3rd -200 and so forth. Can't play more than 4 units at most, and that is quite alot.

I like the idea of alot of small flying beasties, might add that to the nasty lists that we play every now and then :)

Gonna have a looksie around for your 35 harpy list and see what your thought were regarding that vast number of harpies.

Now's a good time, too, as Maelstrom Games currently have a 17% off voucher until the 27th July (usually they're 10% off). For those not on the mailing list the voucher code is: SUMMER-MADNESS (and they suggest sharing it round :)).
